Chapter 275: Chapter 275 Good People
“Honey, wait a second. I’m not finished yet.”
Hearing footsteps approaching, Harley didn’t even look up, focusing entirely on her pasta.
“Have a seat. This is my wife…” Jason pulled out a chair. The burly man offered a word of thanks and sat down.
Sensing someone new at the table, Harley looked up quickly, eyeing him with curiosity. “And this is…?”
“Right, I haven’t asked your name yet.” Jason handed him the menu.
“Thor! Thor Odinson… My apologies, I don’t know how to order here. Perhaps you should do it.”
Pffft! What?!
Harley jolted, nearly spitting her pasta across the table. She stared at him in pure terror before snapping her head toward Jason, who looked completely unbothered.
This is Thor?!
He had just said they wouldn’t be dealing with gods for a while, and now, in the blink of an eye, he’d brought one over for brunch? She hadn’t mentally prepared for this. Are we about to scrap? Should I strike first? Since the opponent is a god, it’s not a sign of weakness if I call for backup, right?
Harley’s mind was spiraling. She shot Jason a frantic, wide-eyed look.
“Nice name,” Jason remarked. He called the waitress over and ordered a massive spread of food, using the moment to signal Harley to keep her cool.
The restaurant was fast. By the time the three had exchanged names, two servers arrived with three large platters of food. After another thank you, Thor began to devour the meal.
Asgard might be the crown jewel of the Nine Realms, overflowing with treasures, but when it came to culinary delights, Earth held the edge. Thor took a double-portion ham and cheese pizza, rolled it up like a burrito, and finished it in three bites.
“Nice!” Swallowing the pizza, his eyes lit up as he gave a thumbs up. “I’ve never tasted food so delicious.”
Jason kept a smile on his face. “Then eat up. There’s plenty more where that came from!”
Thor nodded gratefully and moved on to the next dish. Having been stripped of his divine power by Odin, he had become entirely mortal. His muscular body was weakening rapidly, and to slow the process, he needed a massive intake of nutrients. The meal Jason ordered was enough for a party of ten, yet Thor finished it alone and still looked like he could go for more.
“This drink has a fine flavor.” Thor drained his coffee in one go and nodded in approval.
“Another round?” Jason smiled, looking at him like one might look at a trained gorilla that had learned to use a fork.
“Yes! Another!” Thor shouted, slamming his mug down. It shattered into pieces, startling the other patrons.
The waitress ran out at the sound of the crash. Jason pulled out a few small bills to shut them up. “Clean up the mess, and bring him a Caramel Macchiato.”
“Just coffee? You could eat a bit more,” Harley chimed in with a friendly, charming smile.
During those ten minutes of watching him eat, she had been secretly observing Thor, and her tension finally began to ease. In her imagination, a god should be a powerful, benevolent, and majestic being. But the God of Thunder sitting in front of her lacked any sense of majesty; he felt more like a lovable oaf. He had accidentally dispelled all the tension in the air.
Sensing Jason’s intent, she began to move in for the information. “I’m full,” Thor replied with a smile, patting his stomach.
“I see you’re barefoot and carrying no money. Were you robbed?” Harley asked. They really were two of a kind; even their conversational traps followed the same script.
“No, I… I was…” The smile on Thor’s face stiffened instantly. Recalling the events of the past few days, he said self-deprecatingly, “I made a mistake, and my father cast me out.”
Father. That would be Odin, then.
Harley and Jason shared a quick look. Harley’s eyes showed surprise, while Jason’s were mocking, as if saying: See? The so-called gods are no different than us.
The waitress finished clearing the shards and brought over a fresh coffee. Harley stood up to take it and placed it gently in front of Thor. “I’m sure you’ll reconcile soon.”
“Thank you.” Thor gripped the cup with both hands.
“So, what’s next for you? You can’t just sleep on the streets; the neighborhood isn’t the safest lately,” Harley said with feigned concern.
“I don’t know,” Thor admitted, looking lost. “But first, I must find my hammer.”
“Hammer?” Harley acted confused.
“Yes. My weapon. A magnificent weapon.”
At the mention of Mjolnir, Thor smiled again, eager to boast about his magical hammer. The two went back and forth, chatting away. Harley was a master of psychology; from the moment she accepted Thor’s identity, every movement was a perfect performance of a kind, older sister figure. Thor felt zero pressure talking to her; in fact, being exiled by his father had left him frustrated, and he was more than happy to vent to someone as understanding as Harley.
Jason, who had started the whole thing, ended up as a bystander. Thor loved to boast, and with Harley’s expert guidance, he spilled everything within ten minutes: his true identity, his divine parents, his brother Loki, and all his past glories and mistakes.
“Oh! My! God!” Harley rested her chin in her hands, her eyes crinkling into crescents. “Your story is amazing, but I still find it hard to believe you’re the God of Thunder.”
“I know it’s hard to believe.” Thor felt a bit shy meeting her gaze and hid behind a sip of coffee. “But I swear, everything I’ve told you is true.”
Harley smiled and gave Jason a subtle look. The intel is gathered. What’s the next move?
Jason was actually quite surprised. He hadn’t expected to run into Thor here, let alone that he would be so smitten by Harley that he’d hand over every piece of vital information on a silver platter. As for the next move… he wasn’t entirely sure.
Kill him? With Jason’s current strength, it would take less than 0.1 seconds to eliminate a mortal Thor.
But what then? An enraged Asgard would surely launch a massive campaign for vengeance. Never mind the All-Father Odin—Asgardian soldiers alone could pull the Joker organization out by its roots.
Better to stay low-key. I’ll let him go for now.
“You’ve eaten your fill, and we should be going.” Jason stood up to say goodbye.
“Thank you for the meal,” Thor said, looking a bit reluctant to see them go.
“Don’t mention it.” Jason pulled a stack of cash from his wallet. “Take this. Find a hotel to stay in.”
Thor knew this was Earth currency and didn’t refuse. When I regain my power and return to Asgard, I will surely repay you, he thought to himself.
Thor watched them until they disappeared from sight. Only then did he realize a car had pulled up beside him.
“You!” He recognized the beautiful woman in the driver’s seat. It was the woman who had hit him with her car earlier.
“You… you… do you know those two?” Jane asked, her expression terrified.
“I don’t. But they just bought me breakfast and gave me money. They must be good people.”
“Good people!” Jane rolled her eyes so hard she nearly went blind.
