Chapter 1: The Day Light Faded
Sitting in my room like any other day, tossing a small ball across the room. This is the usual for me since I don’t have much care for video games like the other kids around here.
My room is small with some cracks along the walls, it is only natural that they look worse as time goes on.
The window in my room is where I usually see my sister Mya playing with her friends after school. It’s always nice and peaceful on our street so I can’t complain.
Pock. Thud. Pock.
My parents always hate the sound of this ball bouncing off the walls but it is the most enjoyment I get these days.
“Liam! Come downstairs please!” Mom shouts, her voice echoing off the walls of the hallway.
Seems I won’t get to enjoy throwing this. I guess I could always draw for a bit… that’s the only other thing I enjoy doing most, if anything.
So I catch the ball and sit it down on my dresser next to my bed before standing up. I could just barely see my reflection in the mirror across the room.
My hair is a bit of a mix of silver and blue, almost making for an icy white kind of look. It’s not short by any means, I’d say medium length and layered a bit.
A bit loose with wind swept waves that flare outwards at the end. I have longer bangs towards the front that help frame my face.
My eyes are blue as well, something I’ve always been happy to have. My father gave me these eyes and I couldn’t be happier to have them.
I don’t see a point in changing right now so I’ll keep my black hoodie on, my sweatpants, and just throw on a pair of sneakers.
I honestly never know what to expect from my mother. Sometimes she wants to go somewhere, sometimes she doesn’t. It is always random and never gives me an idea of what to expect.
I guess it’s time to head down with everything in check.
I make my way down the hallway, passing by each family photo that hung on the wall. My mom always did love getting pictures taken whenever she could.
She cherishes the memories we make quite a bit and I don’t blame her for doing so. But upon hitting the last step I could see them all sitting at the table.
“About time you came down to join us son.” Dad says as he continues to read the paper.
I can smell the pancakes from here, chocolate chip? She really does know how to treat us when it comes to breakfast. With that I took my seat at the table next to Mya, my younger sister.
She is always full of joy, that’s why it is nice to be around her so that I can forget the shitty parts of life.
Her blue eyes lit up as I look over at her. “Liam I made some new friends today. They are really cool and one of them likes to draw like you.” Mya speaks up with some excitement.
I give her a pat on her head. “That’s awesome. You’ll have to introduce them to us at some point.” I reply with a smile.
My mother is hard to miss with her long white hair, it was probably where I got it from. It went past her shoulders towards the center of her back, she was always wearing some sort of dress.
The whole family is always happy, something I think I take for granted sometimes.
“One for Liam, one for Mya, and lastly one for my handsome husband.” Mom says with a smile as she puts the last plate down.
Being the older brother is definitely not the easiest at times though. I’m only 16 and I’m expected to be the role model for Mya at all times.
I try my best but I’m not the greatest when it comes to what to do and what not to do. I’ve always hated trying to figure out any of that stuff.
RUMBLE!!!!! RUMBLE!!!
The entire room begins to shake for a few moments as my sister begins to panic.
“Mya don’t worry it’s probably just a mini earthquake.” Dad says calmly.
The time on the clock of the stove reads 7:30 AM. But yet after the tumbling stops, it seems to be getting darker.
“What’s going on outside?” I ask while standing up from the table.
It shouldn’t be getting dark when the day just started. It’s only 7:30 in the morning so what is going on all of a sudden?
“It’s probably nothing Liam. We should make sure nothing broke.” Dad responds while looking around the kitchen.
I didn’t acknowledge what he said and made my way to the window to look outside. Everything is getting darker and darker with each passing moment.
It didn’t make any sense so I look up towards the sky to see if the sun was just being blocked by some clouds. But…
“Dad. Where is the sun?” I ask while staring out the window.
I can hear my dad rush over and peak over me at the sky. “That’s strange. I don’t see it either. It’s okay, no need to panic.” Dad responds while trying to keep calm himself.
Today the light faded away. People always made theories about what would happen when the sun dies or explodes or whatever… But this doesn’t feel normal.
“Someone help!!! Please!!!” A woman begins to shout from outside.
I take my gaze away from the sky and try to see where the woman is that is screaming for help. Bringing my attention down to the street I can see it…
Tear!!! Rip!!
“It hurts!!! Please!!!” The woman continues to scream as the sound of flesh tearing gets even louder.
All I could see below…. Is something ripping her apart in the middle of the street.
What the hell is happening?
