Chapter 45: Liam Vs The Hybrid
I dash forward after responding to the woman, preparing to swing my sword towards the man in front of me.
Clash!!!!
“I recognize you now. The boy who sat there as I fought against the light bearer. Maybe this will be the way to bring her here after all,” He says with a serious look in his eyes.
I push the sword against his scythe before suddenly slipping forward as he disappears.
As I start to fall to the ground I roll forward and manage to keep myself from being stuck on the floor.
But the moment I turn around I can feel the blade cutting across my chest, pain radiating from it almost immediately. It isn’t enough to keep me from fighting so I push through and swing my sword across him.
He didn’t expect me to tank the hit in the slightest since I can see my sword cut across his chest as well.
It isn’t nearly as deep since he is back a bit further from me… Due to the range he has with this damn scythe. Seeing that I managed to cut him is enough to motivate me to keep going.
“She definitely did train you a bit, I recognize the way you fight,” He speaks with a bit of interest in his voice.
I can’t find the words to speak as I stumble for a moment, just barely managing to hold myself up with the sword.
Did the scythe really hurt me that bad? I didn’t think it was that bad of an attack to begin with… it is extremely painful but I didn’t think…
I look down at my chest to see blood spilling out from where he cut across me. The wound is definitely a lot deeper than I originally thought it was.
“Retreating from this is the best opportunity you have to survive,” The woman speaks with worry in her voice.
Who said he’s going to let me do that? I’m going to have to fight regardless of the odds now.
He isn’t going to let just run away when I can bring Airi to him. Something about that also bothers me quite a bit since he lost when the two of them fought last.
I think he has a new trick up his sleeves to deal with her…
“Airi is a light bearer, she can handle herself,” The woman responds with a serious tone.
Can you stop the bleeding?
She seems to go completely quiet for a moment, almost like my question caught her off guard.
“I thought you didn’t want my help? You don’t even listen to my suggestions or advice,” She replies with confusion in her voice.
Just… Can you?
She doesn’t answer me but I begin to feel a strange feeling in my chest, similar to the wriggling around in my arm that I feel from her.
I look back at my wound to see that the blood is no longer spilling from it anymore but the woman is now silent.
With this I push myself to stand back up while lifting my blade out from the ground.
“You really are an interesting human. One who refuses to die, one who is carrying such a strong infection. I’m actually baffled,” He says while swinging the scythe around.
“I’ll make sure you die here,” I reply weakly.
“I’m sure you will. I am confident that you can do it,” He says sarcastically.
The last sentence ends and I immediately charge towards him, bringing my sword down towards him once again. This time around I don’t let up on the offensive.
Forcing my body to endure as I swing relentlessly at him, keeping the pressure up for as long as possible.
Each clash with my blade against his scythe feels like it could be the last time I swing my sword, but nonetheless I push. The fight feels like it’ll never end at this point.
But it is impossible for me not to notice the smile on his face as I continue to fight against him.
“A human with this much determination and hatred is really starting to excite me. I’m usually quite the serious guy but lately I have found out that I can’t be that way with humans or even the light bearers,” He yaps as he continues to block against my attacks.
Finally I find the perfect opportunity that I have been waiting for; he lifts up the scythe to block a downward attack but I quickly shift to slash across his stomach.
This time I notice that I cut a lot deeper than before, revealing more of the black blood from his stomach.
Stumble! Stumble!!
He falls back a couple of feet as he notices the wound I just inflicted upon him.
I also start to fall once again but manage to use my sword to hold me up. My body definitely feels like it is at the absolute limit of what I can do now.
“More! More! More!” He shouts while touching his stomach.
The look of excitement in his face is sickening.
“You are definitely the weirdest zierel I have met so far,” I reply weakly.
I fall to one knee as my body starts to give out.
This isn’t good in the slightest… He is going to finish this fight if I don’t stand back up. My body is absolutely done though… I don’t think I can get back up.
I’ll die here if I don’t though….
“Join your family then.”
“Yes, join them!”
“They are waiting for you after all!!!”
Voices echoing all around me, telling me to just accept my fate at this point.
“It isn’t my time to join them yet,” I say quietly.
My family needs to witness the death of all the zierel… To see that our world is saved from the darkness that haunts us. Until I do that, I can’t die.
“You sound like you are losing your mind over there,” The man says with a smile on his face.
“Not at all,” I reply with a serious tone.
Come on Liam… Get up!!!! GET UP!!!!!!
