Chapter 15: Can’t Be Left Alone
The familiar voice is gone but I’m now laying in a bed somewhere. Looking to my left I can see that it is definitely a small infirmary room.
Pain is radiating throughout my ribcage and even on the right side of my face a bit.
Guess that’s what I get for fighting back against a bunch of assholes. I didn’t expect to win with how many of them there were but at least I did my best.
I’m also quite curious who brought me here in the first place. Maybe it was Tess? That would make the most sense… right?
The sound of heels on the floor distract me from my thoughts so I look up to see a woman standing before me once again. It isn’t some random woman, it is Alice.
“Fighting against other students, are we,” She says with a bit of a smirk. “Just try to be a little more careful around the other students.”
I slowly sit up in the bed as I take another look at Alice. She isn’t wearing the same uniform as before, it is just a nice blue dress with some floral designs down the sides.
“I’ll try my best not to fight other students,” I reply with a calm tone. “I wasn’t the one who started the fight though.”
She takes a seat on my bed and looks across the room.
“I know. A lot of the kids here will probably look at you as a threat since you have an infection from the Zierel. At least when they find out,” Alice says with a bit of concern in her voice.
“I’m sure they won’t find out,” I reply with confidence. “It’ll have to be something I keep hidden and I’m pretty good at that.”
“I believe you, just make sure to thank Tess for bringing you here later,” Alice says before standing back up.
She doesn’t say anything else as she wanders away and out of the room.
I definitely had a feeling that it was Tess since she is the only one I’ve really talked to. I haven’t had the chance to talk with anyone else really.
It is probably better off that way. I don’t really intend to stick around here in the first place so why would it matter? This whole academy is a waste of time and my mind hasn’t changed at all.
I don’t care if it is the first day or not.
Step. Step.
“I was told you were awake. I’m glad you are okay,” Tess says with relief in her voice.
“It isn’t a big deal. I just dealt with some assholes and that is it.” I respond with a casual, yet calm tone.
“I saw, well I saw a couple of them earlier in the hallway,” Tess says. “They definitely look like they got a beating as well.”
“It wasn’t a fair fight but I’m happy to know I did some damage. Thank you Tess,” I reply with a grateful tone.
Keeping someone close isn’t really part of my plan but she did bring me back here. It is kind of odd that I haven’t seen a single nurse in here though.
I don’t think they leave kids in here without any supervision, especially not one like me. I’m pretty positive that I got messed up in the fight earlier so that is a bit weird.
“Where is the nurse at?” I ask with curiosity in my voice.
“Good question. I think we should get going,” Tess suggests.
I force myself to stand up from the bed, even though the pain is getting more intense. It didn’t change the fact that I agree with Tess.
She doesn’t even hesitate as she takes my arm over her shoulder and we begin to make our way out the room. Just barely I could hear students talking down the hallway.
“Hiding somewhere might be the better idea,” I suggest with a bit of pain evident in my voice.
Quickly we both look around for somewhere to hide.
“A closet, I see one over there,” Tess says as she begins to bring me towards it.
She opens up the door without any problems, inside it is pretty empty. Must be a storage closet of some sort that they haven’t gotten to yet.
Shut.
A small candle is lit inside of here so it isn’t completely dark.
Wriggle. Wriggle.
The feeling in my arm is even worse than before… probably because of the damage I took in that fight. It moved around during the fight as well but I ignored it.
I just need to do my best with keeping it from forming again. I’m pretty sure Tess knows about the infection in my arm, just not remembering anything properly right now.
“You sure he’s still in the infirmary?” A voice questions.
“The asshole didn’t have the strength to leave, I’m positive he’s in there,” Jordan answers with a confident tone.
Doesn’t seem like they are smart enough to realize that I know someone myself. I still have to say it is lucky for me to have her on my side.
I still don’t know how to feel about it but this helps me out quite a bit.
Ba-dum. Ba-dum.
My heart begins to beat out my chest as I feel Tess push up against me more. Even though I know she is helping keep me up, I have never been this close with a girl.
It is honestly a good thing though, the wriggle in my arm is gone because of her.
Something about it helps. I don’t really understand this infection yet, but I want to figure out how it can be used. Maybe this can be the weapon I need to fight back against anyone or anything.
It is also going to be the only way I can figure out how to get to this awakening…
Making sure it isn’t in pain when I try again is the only way it’ll work this time. The infection didn’t respond well to the light which is completely normal.
