Chapter 77: The Descent [3]
I take notice of Amelia still looking over at me, taking me away from the thought of celeste.
“I really can’t believe you survived the fall,” Amelia says with shock in her voice.
“Luck was on my side this time around,” I reply quietly.
“We were all quite worried when you fell, especially Airi. I don’t know what she’d do if we found you dead,” Amelia says with a hint of sadness in her voice.
“I don’t really know. It wasn’t something I expected to happen either,” I reply genuinely.
Just barely escaping death is a miracle in itself and this isn’t even the first time that I’ve managed to do it. Someone wants me to keep pushing forward against the damn Zierel.
I just don’t entirely know who or what is giving me this opportunity.
Because I really should’ve died this time around, especially from the amount of blood I lost. My insides were basically mangled but somehow celeste kept me alive.
I don’t know if my organs are still the same or if they are also inflicted by this infection now… It could be a way to slowly take over my body with more and more damage.
Then again, she said that she could’ve tried already.
“Anyway, how’s your arm feeling?” Amelia asks, changing the topic.
“It feels alright for the time being,” I answer while looking down at it.
“I honestly thought it would’ve given you some sort of problem down here,” Amelia says with a bit of shock in her voice.
“Seems like it is managing for now. I don’t have any complaints as long as it stays that way,” I reply with a calm tone.
I look over at Airi after saying that. The two of them are still talking over there.
“Yeah I don’t know why they are keeping distance to talk,” Amelia says quietly.
“It feels weird,” I respond before looking back towards her.
We both find out beds after that and just focus on getting some rest before continuing our descent. I manage to fall asleep pretty quick, almost like I wasn’t dying earlier.
No strange dreams or nightmares plague me this time around either.
I slowly open my eyes and sit up, looking around for any signs of zierel. The platform we’re on seems to be relatively clear for the time being so I don’t think I should worry.
Not really surprising but everyone is awake.
“Is everyone ready to continue?” Airi asks loud enough for us to hear.
All of us give a nod before getting ready to climb further down.
I look over the edge one more time, taking in the darkness below. After that last look I begin to climb down… This time the others were ahead of me a little bit.
Grab. Grab.
I’m back to watching where I put my hands, especially after the way it went down last time. The grooves in the wall are starting to feel a bit different now.
About an hour goes by…
My arms feel a bit tired after a whole hour of doing this, but I don’t see a place for us to stop yet. The others don’t even look tired yet, maybe I’m just lacking energy still.
Losing all that blood really did take a toll on me… I don’t even know how I’m alive. Even with celeste healing my insides and stopping the blood from pouring out, I should be dead.
Blood lose alone would kill a normal person.
“Ughhh shut up about the normal person stuff,” Celeste speaks up with an annoyed tone.
So you are around still, great. I honestly didn’t know what happened to you after all of the healing.
“It was all pretty draining for me, plus I have to try to ignore this intense feeling as we go further down,” Celeste responds, the annoyed tone still lingering in her voice.
Yeah I know the feeling. I’m having a hard time with pushing myself to continue this climb down.
The others aren’t really struggling as much as I am but this has been going on for an hour now. I honestly thought I’d be fine to climb after all that but my body is definitely not fine.
“My healing doesn’t really replenish the blood you lost… I apologize that I can’t help with that,” Celeste responds.
Then it makes sense why I’m so damn tired from one hour of this… Or maybe it is normal to get tired of an hour of climbing. I don’t know what is normal since I never knew people who did it for a hobby.
Maybe they could climb for hours with enough experience but I never really had to climb anything before.
Before Celeste can speak, Airi’s voice interrupts.
“I think we are finally reaching a spot to stop, but it isn’t a very big platform,” Airi shouts loud enough for us all to hear.
Looking down I can just barely make out the platform she’s talking about. It is definitely one of the smallest ones I’ve seen since we started the climb here.
There’s also no signs of anything around the platform… No zierel, no spikes, nothing.
I’m starting to think we must be getting close to the bottom with the way these platforms are changing so much. The one I fell onto last was pretty big, had some spikes, and enough room for people to camp.
The one below looks like a brief stop at best.
I’ll just have to take what I can get since there isn’t really another option for me to take.
Thud. Thud.
Each of us makes it to the small platform without a problem but it is even smaller than I originally imagined it to be.
There’s enough space for us all to stand but you can see the edge quite clearly.
With how dark it is, that says a lot.
“Definitely not going to be a long break here,” Zeno speaks up with a casual tone.
“We should almost be to the bottom then,” Airi responds with confidence.
