Chapter 51: A Risk Worth Taking
My body still feels kind of wonky, like I got hit by a truck.
That feeling is exactly why I don’t have a proper decision about this trip just yet. It could still be a risk worth taking.
“Good morning Liam, I’m happy to see you are up without a problem,” Airi says with a smile as she looks up from her book.
“It was a peaceful night of sleep for once,” I reply with relief.
“That is good. I don’t know if you came to a decision or not yet, but you can have another day or two to decide. I’ll handle the remaining problems in the city until then,” Airi says casually.
The smile isn’t disappearing from her face so she really doesn’t seem to be bothered by anything here. It does make me feel like I should’ve killed everything instead of rushing off to the academy.
“I’m sorry I didn’t finish killing the zierel in the other locations,” I reply with disappointment in my voice.
I probably could have done everything a bit faster if I didn’t take so long fighting against some of them. I’m also not as strong as I can be yet.
More strength will guarantee what I can accomplish in the future… At least that is the best way to look at it.
“You’re young. I don’t understand why you are so worried about it when you have plenty of years to get stronger,” The woman speaks with a bit of confusion in her voice.
I just don’t want people to suffer for so long if I can end it sooner.
“At this point in time you won’t be able to do that for a couple of years at the very least. You haven’t even met some of the special zierel that possess more strength than a hybrid,
” She mentions with a serious tone.
I’ll learn how to use this power fully before I turn 19. That is a couple of years without taking too long; people should be able to use their awakenings to fight back during that time.
I will still be fighting the battle as well, but I need aether’s power… Or is it my power too?
I look back towards Airi as I leave my thoughts behind for the time being.
“Heading for the academy wasn’t dumb by any means, honestly I’m glad you did. A lot of people would have died if you didn’t go to them,” Airi says with relief in her voice.
“I thought you’d be disappointed that I didn’t handle the rest of the zierel around here,” I reply softly.
“Not at all. You made the right decision and even got us another helping hand out of it,” Airi says with joy.
This reminds me that I didn’t tell her about the other light bearer that I ran into out there. He didn’t have anyone else with him which is still something that I find to be quite strange, especially after everything I learned from Airi.
Light bearers are assigned to people usually so where was his person?
He didn’t seem to be worrying about much either… In fact he didn’t even question that I was out there killing zierel by myself.
“You two watch over each other until I get back,” Airi speaks once more as she stands up.
I watch as she walks out the front door, leaving the two of us here.
My gaze shifts back over to Amelia as I start to wonder about what she could look like underneath the mask.
I still don’t blame her for hiding her face but I am quite curious what she looks like underneath it all. What if it isn’t as bad as she made it sound?
She also thought my scars were pretty cool to see, even if she didn’t believe the heart one very much. It is the truth at the end of the day… One that gave me this sword.
“You are fast and know how to use that knife, but what is your power?” I ask with curiosity.
I watch as her eyes widen at the thought of my question.
“I didn’t expect anyone to ask but I don’t really know what it does. I’ve been trying to figure it out since it awakened with no luck so far,” Amelia answers genuinely.
“I’m in a similar boat. My power is still something I have quite a lot to learn about before I can do anything useful with it,” I say while looking towards my right arm.
“The sword from before, I did notice you don’t have it right now,” Amelia mentions while looking up and down at me.
She seems to be looking for any sight of the sword.
“It comes out when I need it. I got it as part of my awakening, I guess that is the best way to put it,” I respond while clenching my right hand.
“I’m sure it’ll be quite powerful when you learn how to use it then,” Amelia says with a bit of jealousy in her voice.
“Your power could be quite unique for all you know,” I try to encourage her.
Amelia already is quite strong with the way she fights now, imagine what she could do with a crazy power like tess’s or even something like Airi’s.
She does have an eye of a light bearer which is kind of hard to miss.
What kind of powers do light bearers possess anyway? Surely it has to be something good for each one of them.
I should’ve asked Airi about it since she has been educating me on everything for a couple of months now. From fighting to knowledge… I have learned a lot.
“Light bearers are definitely quite unique in that nature. Humans could only dream of reaching such a level… But maybe you will be an exception,” The woman speaks up, interrupting my train of thought.
Learning about what powers are possible is a good goal to have as well. I also appreciate that you aren’t completely doubting me.
