Chapter 104: Back to the institute
“Hahahahaha!”
“You’ve made this old man laugh after a very very long time, young one.” The translucent man appeared with a glass shattering laughter.
“At higher ranks, the use for artifacts become extremely negligible. Sometimes they might even be a hindrance during fights, so most only kept one or two useful ones around.” He explained.
But when he saw that Sia still didn’t look confused, he continued. “These two are only Beta ranked artifacts, but thhink about this, if I had kept these two, how useful must they be?”
A sparkle finally appeared in Sia’s eyes at that. She brought out a brand new spatial storage, reached for both artifacts, and put them into the storage bracelet. Then packed all the tomes on the shelf, and then lastly turned to the pile of gold and treasures.
After sweeping the hall clean, she turned to the translucent man. As if reading her mind, he waved his hand, and a door appeared.
“Just step through that door, and it’ll take you outside, but for your safety, it’ll take you far from here, allowing you to evade those waiting outside.” Sia nodded. It made sense, by now, even more powerful people would be waiting outside for whoever would come out of the tomb.
“All that I ask is that even if you wouldn’t learn my techniques yourself, give them to others, after all, I also want to leave a legacy behind.” the translucent man said.
“I will do so.” Sia nodded, before stepping through the door.
————-
The teleportation matrix in this city, was like many others, in the slums, in an old abandoned building to be precise.
And the reflection I swapped with was the one I left with the teleportation matrix. I staggered a bit the moment my main body appeared there. The shift from the difference in time flow got to me. It made sense, after all, my body and part of my mind had been out of this reality for quite a few days.
I shook my head, and brought out my trusty chair to regain myself. Now that Sia had killed my reflection, I didn’t have an accurate reference of the difference in time flow anymore, but I could more or less calculate it.
Every second I was spending out here in the real world, was 28 seconds inside there. which meant, a minute here would be roughly twenty eight minutes, or half an hour would pass in there.
Going by the same ratio, I spent about five days in the tomb, but only about four hours, had passed outside. I figured it won’t be long before Sia showed up anyway. It wasn’t like she was going to spend another day in there. And even if she did, not even an hour would have passed here.
True to my thoughts, only twenty minutes had passed before she appeared.
“Miss me?” I heard her voice before I even saw her. She stepped out from behind a wall.
“You’re early.” I said.
“And here I thought I was late. I spent roughly fifteen minutes in the tomb after you left.”
’That would be only thirty two seconds.’ I mused.
“And it’s also thanks to the remnant will sending me far away from the tomb’s entrance.” Sia stretched.
“I see.” I muttered. I didn’t think about it before, but some stronger individuals that couldn’t enter the tomb due to rank constraints, would be waiting at the entrance for who ever comes out, wouldn’t they?
“Anyway, aren’t you curious?” she leaned closer smiling.
“About?” I asked.
“The spoils of course, what else?” She rolled her eyes.
I shook my head.
“We can leave that till we get back to the institute, I’m in no rush.” Tempted as I was, it was better to get to a safe environment first. Everything could come after. What if it was something that could attract attention?
Sure she was a princess, but she wasn’t in her capital, empire, or even continent. One powerful person arriving here could freeze us in place with pure pressure, before we could even blink.
“Quite reasonable.” she nodded.
I reached for my face as I stood up. The featureless mask came off with a slight push of my will, and I was back to my captivating appearance. My wavy jet black hair flowed down my temples like dark silk, while my eyes regained their striking grey pigment.
“Ah, feels good to be me again.” I sighed. How many days has If been?” I muttered as I touched my face, before turning to Sia who was looking at me with a puzzled expression.
“What?” I smiled. “Entranced by my captivating looks?” I tilted my head.
She gave me a deadpan look.
“I just didn’t know you were a narcissist on top of being a retard.” she remarked dryly, before a flash of light enveloped her. When it vanished, the dark haired woman had vanished with it. Instead, it was a stunning scarlet haired girl with an otherworldly grace who stood there.
Her eyes were like two pools of swirling blood red, with a depth that seemed to suck one in, if they stared too long. Unfortunately for me, I got caught in them.
“Let’s go.” Her voice snapped me out from my trance.
I shook his head as we stepped into the teleportation matrix. “What sort of sorcery was that?” I muttered under my breath as we disappeared.
We reappeared in the mission room, and as expected, we drew attention. Both due to our looks, and also our identities.
We paid no need to the gossip. I couldn’t care less, and Anastasia had also gone back to her indifferent self, so we stepped into the matrix designated for the dome, and from there, made our way to the dorms.
But instead of going to my own dorm, I followed Anastasia to hers. But I had to admit, the number of eyes, were now starting to get on my nerves, like an itchy sensation that didn’t seem to go away no matter how much you scratch.
It wasn’t my first time coming to the Hydra dorms, as I had met up with Dion quite a few times. Anastasia and I stepped into the matrix for the top floor, after which she unlocked her door.
Stepping inside, I took a glance around the entire place, before I turned to her.
“Isn’t the color… a little bit too much?” Almost everything you could imagine, that was in the living room was red. The curtain, the couch, the carpet, etc. The only thing that was spared was the paint, which was still white.
“What wrong with it?” She inclined her head. “It’s my favorite color, my eyes are red, my hair is red, and most of all,” she smiled. “Blood is red.”
“It’s still too much though.” I muttered.
“You know what else would be too much? She smirked. “The exiled third prince of the Darkfell empire, followed the second princess of the Necron empire to her dorm room. Oh the horror, how scandalous would that be?” She sighed dramatically.
Seeing my unimpressed look at her antics, she clicked her tongue, which if I had to be honest, when coming from her, even a snort was a sight to behold.
“Just let me see spoils.” I rubbed my hands.
“Stop acting like some unscrupulous merchant.” She scoffed, before materializing two objects in front of her. The first was a sword, and the second was a pair of boots.
“Believe it or not, these were the only artifacts that were there.” She mentioned before I could even open my mouth. “And they’re both Beta rank artifacts.” she added.
Whatever protest I was about to make died in my throat. “Well, you should have led with that.” I said, edging closer to observe the artifacts.
“Have you chosen one?” I turned to her. She shrugged. “I’m fine with either.”
I smiled.
“Well, in that case, I’ll take the sword.” I said. The sword’s reflective/ mirror-like blade just felt intriguing to me.
“What next?” I asked.
She didn’t answer, instead, a pile of tomes materialized and fell into a heap. “Techniques and spells.” she said.
“I see.” I’d have to look through those later, maybe I’d find one I could use.
“Don’t tell me these are the only things you found in a tomb that wanted everyone to kill each other?” I looked at her once more.
She smiled.
“Not even close. Look through this.” She tossed a spatial storage in the form of a bracelet to me.
The moment I input my senses/ consciousness into the spatial storage, my body that was standing still a moment ago staggered. I was sure if it wasn’t because I didn’t want to lose the remaining embers of my dignity before her, I would faint.
’Wealth…. so much wealth.’ My mind kept chanting.
“I’m not giving you any of that though.” she suddenly snatched the bracelet off my hand.
I immediately scowled.
“What do you mean by that?”
