Chapter 105: Mid terms 1
“I’m not giving you any of that though.” Sia suddenly snatched the bracelet off my hand.
I immediately scowled.
“What do you mean by that?”
“The stone first.” She said. “Bring it out, let’s solve the problem about it, then we can start dividing the rest.”
’Ah, so that’s what she meant.’ I thought in realization.
I didn’t answer, I looked at the floor first, could the floor even withstand it’s weight? But I soon shrugged, It wasn’t my dorm room was it? So who was I to care about whether the stone would puncture a hole through the floor?
I created space between us first, and with a tug of my will, the hulking aether stone appeared, and set itself onto the floor with a large thud. The marbled floor cracked as it landed, but still held on.
“What?” I raised an eyebrow upon seeing the blaming look Sia was giving me. “You were the one who said to bring it out.”
In the end, we were still undecided on how to share it, we didn’t want to tell anyone about it, and it certainly wasn’t something we could cut outselves. So I proposed it stay with me for the time being, which as expected, Sia immediately opposed.
“Why can’t it stay with me?” She argued.
“Okay?” I sighed. “We’ll take turns holding onto it, a week each.” I proposed.
“Good enough.” she agreed.
After that, we shared the aether stones and gold knotts equally. I ended up with 25,304 aether stones, while Sia ended up with 25,305. She claimed the last one was for her troubles, since she did complete the last phase of the third trial after all.
I didn’t argue with that, and besides, it was only a single aether stone. As for the gold knotts, they were more even. We ended up with 502,000 each.
The next thing I did, was to go through the tomes, to see if there was anything that I could learn there. I didn’t need techniques at the moment, so I shoved those aside, and checked for sorcery.
I ended up picking two tomes. One was; Beginner and advanced guide to binding and trapping sorcery, and the second was; sorcery of barriers. I chose the second one, mainly because I didn’t know how to even put up a silence barrier, which was kind of embarrassing for someone of my background.
I was going to study these two, or rather, many of my reflections would.
Unknowingly, it was already dusk by the time I left Sia’s dorm.
—————
A beautiful, or perhaps a captivating dark haired man sat crosslegged on a bed. The sun filtering through the glass wall at side illuminating him, making him look even more divine than he already did.
With a slight smile on his lips, he opened his eyes, revealing two orbs of striking grey, that would stuck a chord even in the most unfeeling of beings. The unmistakably confidence in them, gave him an aura of authority.
Who was it if not yours truly?
It had been two weeks since Anastasia and I came back from our adventure, and things have been moving ever so bumpy for me. Sometimes smooth, and sometimes not.
First, I had almost lost it with Anastasia when she said she wasn’t giving me any of those gold or aether stones. But it wasn’t my fault, she was the one who didn’t finish what she wanted to say.
There was another thing that bugged me though. Alistair’s seemingly close relationship with our geography instructor, Instructor Summers. That was one of the things that weren’t supposed to happen. Instructor Summers was only going to take him under her wing after the first term, or rather, semester.
I didn’t let it get to me though, as I was far more excited about something else. I had finally broken through to the Eta+ rank, but my excitement soon turned to disappointment when I noticed a restriction in my powers.

———-
The increase in my aether wasn’t as fundamentally changing as it was when it broke through to a major rank (from Eta+ to Theta-). It just felt like a light increase, but still, a regular reflection now costed around 4 percent of my aether.
Then came the problem, the strongest reflection I could make was capped at 400 percent of my stats, which took around eighty percent of my aether. If I tried to make one with more aether, it simply wouldn’t work.
It upset me more than I’d like to admit, but it also made me realize that I might have been too greedy. My ability itself was a pack of abilities, whether it was clones, teleportation, or even absurd comprehension I had by using my reflections to practice/ learn something, If not there was no way my techniques would have advanced in a mere month when I hadn’t trained for two years.
Each of these I mentioned, could be abilities on their own, being able to make reflections that had 400 percent of my strength was most certainly a blessing.
Yet, why do I still feel wronged? Perhaps it was the inherent greed of the human nature. I had had fantasies of being able to create reflections that had over a thousand percent of my strength with negligible aether. Turns out, a fantasy was still a fantasy, which was ironic, because I was in a fantasy world.
That aside, I had made good progress with the two tomes in these two weeks, and man was I enjoying them.
Practical was always more fun than basics and theory, at least to me, plus, with the amount of reflections dedicated to this, sorcery might actually not be as boring as I thought.
Those were part of the things that had happened in the past two weeks. I stood up from the bed, and took a quick shower, then put on my already prepared clothes, ones that were especially heat and fire resistant, and the type that could withstand high speed combat.
Then last but not least, styled my hair. I’ve got an appearance to keep up with after all, especially with the shit I was going to pull, in the following days.
Today was quite special you see, after all, the mid- terms were starting today. Excitement was at an all time high, especially since everyone knew the chance to finally go up in the rankings had come.
We were going to finish all written exams today itself, and then continue straight to the practicals. Though you could completely ignore the written exam, I wouldn’t recommend that, because it would severely impact your ranking.
I for one, fully intended on passing all the written exams, because why not? Even though I was now 90 percent confident in becoming the first rank through combat alone, I would still have those tests for extra brownie points.
With one last look at myself, I left my dorm. But before stepping into the matrix, I texted Dion, telling him to meet on the walkway.
When I reached there however, he was already there. “What’s up bro?” Dion grinned upon seeing me. “You ready for the mid- terms or what?”
I also grinned. “Oh believe me, I’m going to kick everybody’s asses.”
Like I said earlier, today was quite lively, students hanging on the walkway, chatting animatedly about how they’d go up in ranking.
At that moment however, we heard a commotion, or rather, the lack of it. The students that were hanging on the walkway kept clearing away as a certain group of people made their way from the Hydra dorm.
The group consisted of, Rose, Fabian, Delilah, Anastasia, Elsa, Calum, and of course, the golden boy who was at the lead, the protagonist of this world, Alistair Von Drake.
They walked chatting amongst each other, as if oblivious to their surroundings or the students who were clearing the way for them, and the silent commotion their presence was causing.
’Why can’t my presence cause this?’ I inwardly grumbled. If I was the one walking, most would still move away, certainly out of fear of course, unlike the subconscious way they were clearing the way right now.
If there was one thing I realized, it was that you could always beat the protagonist in terms of looks, but they’ll always overshadow you when it comes to charisma. ’But let’s see his charisma work after I punch out his teeth.’ I thought cynically. ’Oh, I can already feel how satisfying that would be.’
The students kept moving away, and the group soon reached Dion and I. However, unlike the others, we didn’t move an inch. That finally caused them to stop.
