Chapter 18: Lark Mywords
“Hmmm, you’re kinda right.” Damon hummed. “So why don’t I just do myself a favour and rid this world of you?” his eyes turned icy.
The dark haired woman didn’t falter.
“You’re welcomed to try.” she replied with contempt.
“It’s a good reasoning if you think about it.” Damon continued as if he didn’t even hear her.
“Since you’re going to be gunning after me, why don’t I just end you here? If anything, it’ll save me the hassle of having to kill you later.”
Ms present didn’t say anything, she just continued glaring daggers at him.
Even as Damon with all the young master attitude, he had never killed anyone, not to talk of his last life. But that had to change, in this accursed world, it was kill or be killed. And Damon wasn’t going to be the exception.
Anyone who wants to kill him, as long as Damon had the opportunity, he wouldn’t hesitate to finish that person. Which was why he decided, that Mira must die.
Of course Damon wasn’t actually going to kill Ms present. Well… he originally intended on doing that, if she hadn’t tried to stop Mira that was. Now though, he only said it to see her reaction.
“Oh ho why are you giving me a death stare? a smile found it’s way to damon’s face.
“where’s your signature smile?” he continued. “Welp, too bad I always knew your smiles were fake anyway.”
Then a mischievous thought occured to Damon making his smile widen.
“I’m curious though, what are you? thirty, forty?” he put on an expression of genuine curiosity. “I mean, it must take huge amounts of shamelessness for a woman your age to go around parading herself as ’big sister’.”
It was as if the surroundings turned a few extra shades colder as Ms present gritted her teeth.
’Keep smiling. When this paralytic wears off, I’ll grant you the miserable death you deserve mongrel.’ Ms present thought in calm rage.
The only thing Ms present cared about was killing Mira with her own hands. That was the the punishment the woman deserved after daring to poison her.
Mira was going to die regardless, the only thing was that it had to be by her hand, but because of Damon, she was going to miss that chance. And now he even made fun of her age? Oh how she was going to enjoy ripping him apart limb by limb.
“Anyway,” Damon sighed. “I think you’ve stalled long enough.”
Ms present’s expression froze.
Damon laughed.
“Honestly I’m actually offended you thought I wouldn’t notice.” he scoffed. “Make me keep talking until you can stand again, that’s your plan isn’t it?” he said a statement rather than a question. “You actually think I’ll stay here talking for half an hour like a fool”
Damon’s reflection slowly raised the bone in his hand again. On the floor, Mira’s eyes widened in terror, but she couldn’t even let out a word as the blood coming from her mouth wasn’t letting her.
“Sprut!” the bone spike pierced into Mira’s throat. She shook for a while, before her eyes slowly lost it’s light.
Looking at the sight, Damon didn’t feel anything, be it sadness, anger, happiness, or even the urge to gag. He just felt… blank.
’Guess I’ve seen too many disturbing shit this past few weeks, for this to even register.’ Damon thought wryly.
His reflection stood up, and so did Damon.
Damon then turned to the dark haired woman while his reflection picked the basket with his egg.
“See you Ms present.” he threw a mock salute.
A smile suddenly bloomed on her earlier frigid face.
“Just pray I never see you again, which I will. When that happens, then may the gods help you. I’ll make sure you’ll die a miserable death, that I can promise you.”
Damon shuddered.
“Seriously, your smile gives me the creeps.”
Damon turned in the general direction of the Ashen Deadlands, and took a deep breath.
He was never ever coming back here. “Never will I ever.” he muttered.
Throwing a last look at Ms present, he and his reflection flickered into the green forest. He hadn’t regained enough aether, but at least he could move without opening some of his more severe wounds. Even if every step he took hurt like hell.
’Thank God I had created a reflection in advance.’ Damon muttered grimly. If he hadn’t, he would have been dead by now.
He created the reflection when he first went to fight the weak undeads, and had the reflection hide when Ms present and Mira joined the fight.
The funny thing was that he only created the reflection for one purpose. That was to carry him if he got injured or too exhausted.
Even though, the reflection got left behind when they started the run to escape from the undead cluster, after all Damon only made it with twenty percent of his aether which meant, it only had forty percent of his stats.
’But at the end, the reflection must still do the job it was created for.’ Damon thought wryly.
“Hey stop pinching me!’ he suddenly scowled.
“Aren’t you even ashamed of being lifted in princess carry?” his reflection taunted.
“Ashamed? I have no idea what that is.” Damon replied shamelessly.
Damon had been so exhausted that the reflection had to carry him. Infact he was barely staying conscious.
It had been almost three hours since they entered the forest, and by now they should be getting close to Nirvana city, at least according to the books.
“Ding!” a soft distant chime reached his ears, soon enough, he began seeing the tall tip of a spire at the distance.
“Finally, now I can stop clinging on.” As if struck by a vertigo, Damon’s figure slumped in his reflection’s arms.
“The first thing I should do is get some healing potions.” Damon’s reflection muttered. “Once I successfully enter the city that is.”
If one wants to enter or leave a city, they must show some identification. But now though, Damon was carrying his main body, so he had to figure out a way to go around it.
About ten minutes later, Damon found himself on a long wide road that led to gigantic fortress like gates.
It took some time, but he finally reached the gates.
The area was filled with bustling populace, merchants peddling their carts, hunters going out to hunt, some people entering the city, while some were exiting.
Some people looked at him, while some didn’t bother, not even about the uncanny identical resemblance between Damon and his reflection.
He joined the long line of pedestrians entering the city.
Not long after, it was finally his turn to enter the city.
“Your IDs.” the city guard asked monotonously.
“Ah here it is.” Damon replied– handing over his fake ID to the guard.
“Mark Mywords. That’s your name?” the guard did a double take at Damon.
“Yes, got a problem with it?” Damon scowled.
“Not my business. What about him?” the guard pointed to the unconscious Damon.
“This is my brother, Lark Mywords. He got jumped by some beasts a little while back in the forest, so I’ve had to carry him for quite the distance.”
“Fine, you can go.” The guard hand him back the ID, and waved him inside.
’Huh? that was easier than I thought.’ Damon was stunned by how easily it worked, but he didn’t dally, he walked into the bustling city.
***********
In a modest hotel room, the sun rays filtering through the blinds fell on a figure sprawled on a bed.
The figure could be described as otherworldly, with it’s wavy jet black hair, the strong chiseled features of its face that were accentuated by a well-defined jawline, thin lips, and a perfectly proportioned nose.
“Damn I feel like crap.” The figure groggily opened it’s eyes revealing two pools of metallic grey orbs.
“Ah so that’s what happened.” Damon muttered as he sat himself up.
The moment he regained consciousness, a stream of memories gently settled in his head, from the time he fell unconscious, till now.
“Let’s see, after I managed to get into the city, I bought some high quality healing potions, made myself drink them, then removed my disguise, bathed myself, wore clean clothes for myself, then tucked myself into bed.” That was all that had happened while Damon was unconscious. After that, the reflection ran out of aether, and got dispelled.
“Wait, how long was I unconscious?” Damon suddenly muttered.
His eyes moved to check the clock in the room, and he soon got the answer.
The time was 11:23 am. And the date was May 15.
“That means I slept for two entire fucking days?” Damon muttered in realization. “No wonder I feel so hungry.”
“I need something to eat!” he sprang off the bed, but suddenly wobbled and crashed hard onto the floor.
Muttering a string of curses, he picked himself off the floor, but then his eyes landed on the date once again.
“Wait a minute…. today is 15th of may?” a realization struck him.
“The fucking entrance exam is in five days?!”
“I’ll be damned.”
