Chapter 31: Edmond Black
Staring at the door of the classroom, and the 1–Alpha written above it, I sighed.
“Here’s to my first day.” I muttered, before twisting the door knob and pushing the door open.
The moment I did that, I felt a lot of gazes on my person. Stepping inside and closing the door behind me, i turned my gaze to the classroom.
It was quite bright, courstey to the artificial lighting and white walls, but also neat, and spotless.
The class had four sets of descending rows with perfectly arranged desks, and each row going up to the tenth seat. Which made that a total of forty seats.
Then in front of the class, was a massive table, with a long rolled up scroll sitting on it.
My current worry at the moment though, were the eyes sneaking glances at me, not because of my looks, which were heavenly mind you, but because of my reputation. I even heard a few mutters;
–This perv is in our class?!
–Careful, disowned or not, he’s used to be part of the Darkfell royal family!
–So what? He’s a useless trash.
_I wonder how he even qualified.
It was some of these people that truly made me wonder just how stupid fools could be. I was quite sure some of the owners of these voices were ranked below me.
And yet they couldn’t use their common sense. Even if rank didn’t indicate strength, the fact that I ranked higher than them should make them not look down on me.
But I’ve long since known that one couldn’t exactly apply logic to unnamed characters, or villains, everyone knew their stupidity was off the charts.
’Where should I sit?’
I ignored the gazes, and looked around the room. After a few moments, I ascended the stairs and went to the last seat of the first row.
In other words, the main character’s seat. Only that it was empty, cause the main character in this world was not the subtle type. In fact he was sitting on the first row in the middle of the class.
Some of the other names characters were also seated at the front of the class, like the bitch, and princess of the whetstone empire who Delilah who Alistair was enthusiastically conversing with, and the bitch.
I shook my head as I sat down and tried to act nonchalant even with the gazes I was still sensing. I figured if they stared enough, they’d eventually get tired.
I looked around once again, the class was almost full. Waiting for Rose to get out of sight, in turn, made me had to wait for The bitch to get out of sight, which kinda almost made me late.
’It seems the redhead isn’t in our class.’ I let out a sigh of relief as I don’t see her anywhere. But again, she could just be running late.
At that moment, the door knob twisted, and in came a figure that stole everyone’s attention.
“Speak of the devil.” I softly muttered. In hindsight, it was merely wishful thinking. Of course the first year representative would be in 1–Alpha.
Eyes followed her every movement as her gaze scanned the room for a bit, before she walked up to the second row and took a seat on the the third seat, a meter away from… Rose, who was on the third seat on the third row.
I couldn’t see the redhead’s face, but I was sure she still had that unbothered expression on her face. The reason I chose a seat at the back of the class was so I could oversee the entire class.
A few minutes passed, and the class was now completely filled up. In fact the time the first class was supposed to begin had already passed, before the door turned open, silencing the entire class.
“Good morning to you too class. I would like not to be interrupted please.” The moustached man said with a smile that was not a smile.
“I’m Edmond Black, but you can call me instructor Black.” He introduced briskly.
Yep, the proctor was the instructor for 1–Alpha. A fan favourite in the novel ’Shadows of ascension’. Loved for his strength, charisma, and last but not least, his sadism.
“Now that the introductions are over, ….” the instructor began, but was cut off.
“Uhhh, instructor Black, we haven’t introduced ourselves yet.” a student raised his hand.
’Poor soul.’ I inwardly muttered. The guy was the one of the students instructor Black used to affirm his authority on the class.
“Okay, what’s your name?” the instructor asked.
“Calum Forge.” The youth answered proudly.
“Oh from the illustrious Forge family.” the instructor quirked his brows, before he moved one of his finger to his wrist where a familiar blue band was.
“Minus 10 point for student Calum Forge for interrupting my class.” he muttered to the band, but loud enough for everyone to hear.
“What? but I didn’t….” the youth began, but was cut off by the instructor’s interjection.
“Minus 20 points for student Calum Forge for further disturbing my class.”
“You can’t do that, I’m a heir of House Forge.” the student yelled.
“House Forge eh?” the instructor muttered smiling slyly. “Correction, minus 40 points to student Calum Forge for threatening an instructor.”
Silence.
Almost everyone stared at the instructor as if they had just seen a clown. I knew why, House Forge wasn’t to joke with. They were a tier 2 House, and it was well known that they held their prestige very high.
But what everyone didn’t know was that instructor Black was a Beta ranked aetherial, and was most certainly stronger than the strongest aetherial house Forge could produce.
The silence stretched, until the student made a wise choice and sat down.
Seeing that, Instructor Black smiled coldly. “I would have asked you to introduce yourselves seeing as we’re going to be stuck together for the better part of a year, but I could care less about none of that.”
“You all would do well to know that whatever status you held outside is redundant in this institute.” he continued. “Here, might makes right. If I’m stronger, you do whatever the fuck I tell you to do.” He said with a shit eating grin.
The atmosphere tensed for a few breaths, before his grin disappeared.
“As I was saying earlier before some idiot interrupted,” he paused. “Now that introductions are over, we can finally move on to today’s work, which is…. History.”
A collective groan echoed through the entire room. Guess I wasn’t the only one who hated history.
“Relax, today is the first day, so it’s only going to be introductions on the Dark war, which I’m sure most of you are already in the know of.” he said turning his back to the students.
’At least it ain’t math.’ I inwardly thanked my stars.
Why? Well just like almost every other kid, maths was a nightmare to me. In fact not only math, school itself was a nightmare to me.
It was a wonder why I was even putting myself through school again. ’It’s for the sake of the world.’ I had said to myself.
Instructor Black moved towards the large table, and unfurled the long scroll laid upon it.
A hologram sprung up with ’Introduction to the Dark war’ boldly shining at the top.
“So who can tell me, where did the first tear in space leading to the Darkwalker’s world show up on Nahaar?” Instructor Black asked turning back to the class.
I hadn’t even waited for him to finish speaking before my hand sprung up.
“Yes, the over enthusiastic student on the last row.” The instructor pointed at me amused.
All heads turned in my direction. It was a given, I was the only one who had raised my hand. In the novel, no one had raised their hands for the first ten seconds.
I ignored the gazes, and stared at instructor Black. “It showed up in the skies above North city, in the then known Aurora continent, now known as the Drakara continent.”
“That was a great description thank you. What’s your name?” instructor Black asked.
“Damon Darkfell.” I tried expecting to see some sort of recognition in his expression, but he showed none.
“20 points for student Damon Darkfell.” The instructor announced.
–Shit! he can do that?
–I would have raised my hand if I knew I’d be rewarded.
_As if a fool like you would even know the answer.
While the students were exclaiming,
’Haha, eat that mongrels.’ I chuckled. When the question was asked in the novel, no one raised their hands for some time, before Alistair then raised his hand and answered the question. Then the instructor rewarded him twenty points.
Which was why I had hurriedly raised my hand, and answered the question. Of course I didn’t know the answer from Damon’s memories. All I did was repeat what Alistair had said word for word.
The instructor took back control of the class, but didn’t ask any more questions, both to my dismay and that of the class.
An extremely boring hour and a half passed, before the class was over, and it was time for the combat class.
