Chapter 145: Invitation
As the two imposing figures stood before us, the crowd- first year’s especially, began Whispering, curious about why two third years had approached us.
–”Isn’t that the unruly prince’s older brother?”
–”Yes it is, don’t you see the resemblance?”
–”Why did he approach them?”
–Maybe to congratulate his kid brother?” someone offered.
–Shh, just shut up and let us watch.”
———-
”What do you want?” Anastasia asked coldly
”I am the Student council’s vice president, Silvie Votalis.” The silver haired girl spoke facing Anastasia. “And this here, is the president of the student council, Emmett Darkfell.” She gestured to the machevellian prince.
”We are here to extend you an invitation to join the student council as the first year’s representative.” She said to Anastasia, before she turned to me. “And him as your vice.” She said referring to me.
”Hmmm.” Anastasia hummed a bit as if contemplating, before she raised her head and looked Silvie in the eye. “I see no reason for me to join the student council, though.”
Silvie was unfazed. “Actually there is, you get to hold power among the student body, have more clearance in the institute’s matter, and when you get to the third year, you’ll become the president of the student council automatically, while he’ll be the vice presi…”
”Wait, hold up, since she’s not particularly eager to join, why don’t I be the president?”
”Well for that you’d have to be the top rank, brother.” Emmett spoke indifferently. “And last I checked, you weren’t the top rank. But then again I’m not all that surprised. You are simultaneously less disappointing than I remember, and more disappointing at the same time.”
’Annoying bastard.’ I inwardly cursed, but not a shred of my actual feelings showed on my face. Even still Emmett continued.
”And it seems our dear sister has lately joined you in the realm of incompetency. Not a single individual in our family, be it, father, mother, Aldrich, Ariel, or I didn’t dominate this institute during our time. Each one of us consistently held the top rank, and eventually the position of the student council president.
But the entrance exam finished and guess what? I saw Rose’s name in 4th rank and yours in the seventies. While I never had hopes of you being capable of such, Rose whom I thought would hold the first rank was also nothing but a disappointment.
And then finally, there was you again.” He smiled. “You who made it to the finals only to lose it all. It seemed you will never cease to be a disappointment.”
Someone stop me from punching this guy’s nose in. The only thing that kept me from doing that exact thing as the bastard continued to talk trash was my survival instincts. It was very clear to me, that were I to do that, it would not end well for me. If not, I would have punched his annoying face in, I swear it.
My body was literally trembling as he continued to speak, but I had to remind myself to not move a muscle lest I brought death onto myself. But in the end I just couldn’t hold it.
”Would you shut the fuck up? Your voice is getting on my nerves!” I scowled. “You’re here yapping about holding the top rank and whatnot. If it’s so easy try fighting someone with a broken ability who just defeated the individual termed as the crown jewel of this generation, one who is higher than you by a rank to boot. When you’ve done that, you can come and start lecturing me.” I laid out all my frustrations in one go.
Seriously, the battle against Anastasia wasn’t easy in the slightest, I had twenty two reflections, but she still somehow butchered them all.
”Is that so?” Emmett’s smile darkened, and I suddenly felt a terrifying pressure boring on me from all directions. It wasn’t much of a physical one, but more of a psychological pressure, and it was trying to force me to my knees.
”Hehe.” Just when my legs buckled, a melodious chuckle dimmed the tension scaling in the air rang like jingling pearls. The pressure boring on me vanished almost instantly.
”You know he is right Emmett.” Silvie chuckled. “If it was anyone but her against him, he would have taken the top spot. Perhaps the only one that would have given him more trouble would be the current third rank.”
Emmet didn’t speak further, but instead a small smile played on his lips while Silvie turned back to Anastasia. “So, do you accept to join the student council?” She asked.
Anastasia smiled, and it wasn’t a genuine smile, but one I was quite accustomed to. “Why of course, with all these benefits, why wouldn’t I?”
”As I thought.” Silvie smiled as two silver- crystal badges appeared floating above her palm. “From now on, you two are members of the student council.” She said as the badges gently flew from her hand over to ours.
”As the first year’s representative, you have the authority to select five more students from the first year, and have them join the student council.” Silvie explained to Anastasia.
I continued to watch as Silvie explained many more nuances that came with the position to Anastasia. Apparently, the student council held a meeting at 3pm every thursday, which both Anastasia and I were required to attend, along with the five others that Anastasia would choose to join.
As Silvie continued to talk, I reminisced about what I knew about her from the novel. In the novel, Silvie came from a tier 3 House tilted House Votalis. They were also in the Darkfell empire so Emmett and Silvie had known each other since childhood, and they met a lot especially in banquets.
One thing led to another, and the Darkfell emperor proposed a marriage on Emmett’s behalf, so Silvie became Emmett’s fiancee, albeit it wasn’t yet so at the moment. Which reminds me, their engagement date would be set and announced during the three weeks vacation after this mid term.
Eventually, Silvie would find out that Emmet was the architect behind most events, and that he practically viewed everyone as a chess piece including herself, she would still choose to stay by his side, and eventually die for him.
Foolish if I do say so myself. There is no one in this world I would willingly die for.
Wich was why, although Silvie wasn’t particularly a bad individual, as a wise man once said, the friend of a theif was a thief. So, both she and Emmett were practically the same according to me.
My thoughts soon shifted from Silvie and Emmett, and soon went to the three weeks vacation we’d be given.
We’ll be allowed to leave campus starting tomorrow, and won’t be returning for the next three weeks. But for me, that was where the problem lied. I didn’t have anywhere to go.
And surely I couldn’t go back to the Darkfell Garden, could I? Since it wasn’t like father and mother would cheerfully welcome me, and I also wasn’t particularly interested in going there.
Even though, as much as I didn’t want to go there, I still had to for two reasons. One, to demand why I was punished for something I didn’t do, and two, to give them a piece of my mind.
It was something that had been itching me quite lately, and It wouldn’t stop if I didn’t scratch the itch. So tomorrow, I’ll be heading straight to Darkfell capital.
”That’ll be it, and once again, welcome to the student council.” Silvie finished with a smile and turned back, while Emmett held my gaze for a few moments, his eyes dripping with dark amusement, before he also turned.
”See you, brother.”
’Bastard.’ I inwardly cursed once more.
”I do not like your brother.” Anastasia broke the silence as soon as the two were out of earshot.
”What makes you think I do?” I rolled my eyes.
”The feeling I get from him is extremely dangerous, in a way even more sinister than what I’ve felt from my father.” Anastasia continued.
”I see.” I muttered. She wasn’t the only one who felt that. I also sometimes felt Emmet was more dangerous than Amon, of course not strength wise, but action wise. And that was a lot to say, considering that Amon was also sick in the head much like any other Darkfell except yours truly.
“Are you still leaving, or should I go ahead?” Anastasia’s voice snapped me out of my thoughts.
“Yeah, let’s go.” I said and we proceeded to climb the stairs. Dion met us just as we reached up, and tagged along with us to the portal that took us out of the pocket dimension.
However, the moment I stopped a foot outside the portal, I found a certain female doppelganger of mine standing before me.”
