Chapter 126: Tournament 7
The quarter finals began with a bang, literally. The reason? “Damon Darkfell Vs Calum Forge.” Instructor Lee called out. The first match of the quarter finals, turned out to be between our resident transmigrator, and the heir of the illustrious House Forge. Static electricity literally flashed between the gazes of the two youngsters as their eyes met, before they looked away.
Even though it had long been known that they would be facing each other, it still sounded different when announced. It was like the difference between knowing what you’ll eat for dinner, and when said dinner was actually before you.
“Good luck!” Dion patted Damon’s shoulder. Damon turned to him, silent for a bit, before grinning. “I don’t need it.” he said, before moving away and gracefully descending the stairs that led to the field, with both hands in his pocket, leaving his stronger reflection behind. He was not going to waste a valuable reflection on Calum.
On the other hand, a lithe figure moved closer to Calum. “As a fellow drakaran, I hope you don’t lose too badly.” Sasha chuckled. A visible vein popped on Calum’s temple. “To hell with you.” He barked. “And there’s no way I’m losing to that twerp just because he suddenly grew some wings.”
His outburst only made her chuckle more. “Whatever lets you sleep at night.”
“Tsk.” he clicked his tongue, and turned away from her as dark golden scales began manifesting across his limbs, and even sparsely on his face, just like before.
Fwwhoosshh!
Calum’s body parted the air as he shot from the stands, and straight to the middle of the chaos wrought field, getting there before Damon, who was taking his time.
Once Damon got there, the two stood some meters away from each other. Their gazes met once more, but this time, it was more of anticipation, rather than confrontation.
“It seems our combatants are especially serious, ahahahaha!” Instructor Lee chuckled loudly, before a wolfish grin appeared on his face. “Begin!” he yelled.
“Third art: fall.”
Damon’s sword spun in his hand and touched the ground, splitting the entire field of the stadium in two, in a single attack. The attack destroyed the chaotic field from end to end, sending debris flying into the air.
Against any lower level opponent, they would have been helpless against this attack. But Calum was no mere opponent. He was the heir of a tier two House, and arrogant as he was, he more than lived up to it.
“Arise dragon: Piercing burst!”
Even though the ground was split, and Calum couldn’t find ground to stand on, he still twisted his body, and punched in Damon’s direction.
His punch created a massive air pressure and instantly swept away all of the debris that was flying in the air. With that shockwave, he forcefully cleared the dust in the air and returned visibility to normal, and soon landed on the destroyed ground.
But Damon didn’t care one bit; he already expected that this attack wouldn’t do much damage to Calum, if any.
“Second art: Summer blaze.”
Damon held nothing back in this fight; usually, he would just fight using pure fighting skills, and only resort to his techniques when losing the edge, but this time, it was different. Both from reading the novel and experiencing this reality, Damon had no doubt that Calum was physically the strongest in all of the first years. Even counting an Alister who was using his ability, Calum still held the edge. Which was why Damon wasn’t going to waste his time using small moves.
Damon swung his sword in an upward motion, and the whole valley that he created with the first sword slash, was engulfed by a massive blazing, crimson arc.
If Calum hadn’t stomped his leg at the crimson arc, creating a concentrated shockwave that destroyed the part of the arc that was supposed to clash with his own body , his fate would have been just like the rest of the place the rest of the crimson slash struck. A scorched lacerating cut.
With this few exchanges, Calum realized something. Even though he was considerably stronger than Damon, he was considerably slower as well.
[Royal Dragon Dance]
Calum didn’t initially intend to learn his family’s royal grade movement art, but the realization that his less exceptional speed would develop into a weakness compelled him to devise countermeasures, necessitating the learning of this movement art in order to close up a weakness before it could even appear.
Using the movement art, Calum dodged the succeeding blood red slashes, and made his way towards Damon. But Damon would have to be stupid to let him get close, and Damon was anything but stupid.
“First art: Blooming spring!” A visual representation of blooming flowers appeared behind Damon, followed by his sword glowing azure blue. Damon chose to close the distance himself, and prioritize offense as the best defense.
Barely catching the speed of Damon coming towards him Calum was totally unbothered; he had already covered himself with aether. He took a step forward, and punched towards Damon’s incoming sword.
“Dragon totem!” He roared, as his scaly fist clashed head on with the blade of Damon’s sword. A powerful shockwave that rattled the surroundings billowed outwards, sweeping the entire stadium of debris, and at the same time, creating it’s own.
Moreover, the shockwave produced by the impact, pushed both youngsters away from each other, and then cleared away the debris it had created.
But to the onlookers’ shock, when the debris cleared and vision became clearer, nothing had happened to Calum’s hand even though he clashed head on with a blade.
-“What sort of monster is he?”
-“I didn’t realize he was this strong.”
-“Hmph, a brute will always be a brute.” Someone muttered under their breath.
-“If I was this strong, I don’t care if I’d be called a brute.”
At the first years seating area, Alistair sat, watching the fight between Calum and Damon with a serious disposition. Elsa who was beside him placed a hand on his shoulder. “They’re not as strong as you right?” She asked.
For some reason, Elsa was still in the tournament, and had even reached the quarter finals. Part of it had to do with luck, the tree she followed was made up of weaklings. The other part had to do with the fact that some of the people she was up against didn’t wasn’t to offend Alistair seeing as they were close, and somehow three the fight.
Elsa was sure that whatever luck she had run out. After all, her next opponent in the quarter finals, was none other than that red haired bitch, Anastasia Necron. Elsa knew she stood no chance, so she was going to forfeit maybe quarter of a second into the fight.
“No, they’re not.” Alistair turned to her smiling.
Now, however, the best thing to do was speak to Alistair, and hype him up, even though she already knew with certainty that he would win against Fabian.
Another thing that low-key bothered her was jet black haired young man currently in battle with the dragon scaled young man. How had that weakling of an insect managed to get this much stronger? But Elsa wouldn’t be getting the questions to her answers.
At the instructors side meanwhile, Instructor Summers fixed her eyes on the two youngsters. “Who do you think will win?” A fellow instructor asked her, jolting her out of the trance she had gotten in.
“I do not know as of yet.” She said, shaking her head. “At this point, I’m not sure anymore.” she then muttered under her breath. But it was nothing every single instructor in the stadium couldn’t pick up on. Unless they were trying their absolute best not to eavesdrop that was.
“This might as well be the most intense fight since this tournament started.” Another instructor voiced out. “I’m afraid you’re not quite right.”A voice to the right interrupted them. They all turned around to see the smiling visage of a certain moustached man.
“Damn, Edmond, I forgot you were even here.” An instructor awkwardly chuckled, which was ironic because he was trying to ease away an awkward situation.
“While it might seem like this is the most intense fight since the tournament began, you simply see it as such because both combatants are going all out from the start, and aren’t caring about the damage they’re doing to the field, which for some ungoldy reason, they’ve all subconsciously tried not to do all this while.” The moustached man explained.
“And also, on the matter of who’s going to win,” to he instructor smiled and paused for suspense. “Even though both are my students, I’ll have to say, the Darkfell kid is going to win.”
“I don’t see it like that from my perspective though.” Another instructor immediately voiced his disagreement.
“Edmond is right, Channer.” Instructor Summers backed the moustached instructor. “You’re forgetting that the kid has a much stronger clone on standby.” she said.
“…”
That rendered them speechless, and made some of them actually turn to look at the other Damon standing not far from the edge of the field.
