Chapter 79: What are you boys doing?
But if there was something I was sure of, it was that none of us here were attending today’s last class.
–”W..wait, he did not just forget to unseal our aether did he?” A student voiced out in panic.
As if on cue, I suddenly felt my aether unsealing, and both my strength and vitality returning to me. And judging from the euphoric expression on everyone’s face, I wasn’t the only one.
I summoned my status screen, and saw that the sealed statuses had vanished, so I hurriedly guided my aether around my entire body, letting it’s natural regenerative properties to soothe my sore muscles.
A few moments of doing that, and my limbs finally felt like they were mine again.
“Huh.” I let out a mouthful of air. Though I was still tired, it was nowhere near the level I was experiencing moments earlier.
I threw a casual glance around, and noticed that some of the people around me were also doing the same.
Dion and I soon walked out of the stadium, amidst his aggrieved speech about Instructor Black indirectly trying to kill him.
We headed straight for the exit of the dome much like other students. For some ungoldy reason, today just had to be the day I hadn’t left a reflection back at the dorms.
’Wait a minute.’ I paused as a thought occured to me.
A reflection instantly spawned next to me, before squatting. My main body claimed onto the reflection’s back without any hesitation.
“Uh bro, what are you doing?” Dion blinked.
I rolled my eyes.
“What does it look like I’m doing?” Both of me spoke.
“Stop it, you’re embarrassing us.” He silently gestured to those who had their eyes on us.
Bah, as if I care what these extras think.
“What are you all looking at?!” I yelled, making most avert their eyes. Though from the corner of my eyes, I noticed Fabian who had also just emerged from the dorm, shaking his head, before walking past us.
“Hey Dion…” I turned. ’Eh? where did he go?’ I thought. ’Strange, he was just here.’
—————-
The next few days passed in the blink of an eye, with us juggling between the normal classes, personal training, and then the hell that was the combat class.
By the end of the week, I had only managed to last up to the 23rd and a half lap. I wasn’t disappointed though, if anything, it showed that there was progress, no matter how small.
“So, why are we taking a long walk in the forest again?” Dion who was walking beside me asked.
You see, it was Saturday, and today, I decided I wasn’t going for a mission since i got a lot of points courstey to the mock exam. Instead, I decided to attend to something I’d been putting aside.
“Shhh you’ll find out soon enough.” I said.
He shuddered.
“Bro, that’s the same thing you said a few days ago, before instructor Black proceeded to put us through the blender.”
“Relax,” I smiled. “This one will be fun.”
“Your smile only makes me more uneasy.” he grumbled.
Soon, we reached a clearing I had scouted out beforehand.
“Behold.” I smirked. A small object appeared in my palm, before I injected my aether into it, and threw it at the middle of the clearing.
The object’s size rapidly increased before our very eyes, until it reached the size of a two and a half storeys.
It was none other than the airship I had procured back at the Treasure Auction House. I had bonded it to myself with a drop of my blood, and my aether. And today, I was going to learn how to operate it.
Make no mistake, I had been taught how to fly an airship, but it’s been years since I touched one. Not to mention, the controls on this one might be different seeing as it was specially made.
“Holy shit, you managed to smuggle an airship into the institute?” Dion stared gobsmacked.
“Yep.” I smirked popping the p. “And we’re going to learn how to fly it today.” I added.
His disbelief slowly gave way to a grin.
“Would it be weird if I said that I love you?”
“What the hell? Keep your love to yourself.” I shuddered.
The airship itself didn’t look like regular ones. While it’s hull and the general structures were made of wood, it was the wings that differentiated it from others.
Instead of the regular bat-like wings at the sides, this one had dorsal fin like wings, perched at the stern. And the two storey building on it looked like one of those Chinese style houses.
“Come on, let’s find the cockpit.” I said to Dion who was still looking at the ship in awe.
The deck wasn’t that high, it was only a meter and a half. And even if it were higher than that, we would still be able to leap onto it.
After we entered the building, we didn’t even need to search, because there was a literal door which had the word cockpit engraved on it.
I pushed open the door, and found myself looking at the view I just left outside through a one way windshield. The control panels were arranged in a semi circle like format at the front.
“Damn!” Dion muttered. “This is way more sophisticated than the other cockpits I’ve seen.”
Not gonna lie, I was also amazed. What I liked even better was that from the outside, it didn’t show that there was a windshield. What it showed was simply wood, just like every other structure of the ship.
“Okay now let’s see.” I said moving closer to the control panels. They were somewhat more complicated than I remembered, so I had to go through each of them one by one.
“Move aside bro, let me teach you how it’s done.” Dion moved over and also began pressing various buttons.
But still, nothing was lighting up, or given an inkling of ’power on’. It wasn’t until Dion pressed a button at the base of the control panel, that a small compartment opened, and from it, a small cylindrical shaped container, the size of two fingers slowly emerged.
“Ahhh.” I facepalmed. It was then that it finally hit me. Inside the cylindrical container was an aether stone that had slowly lost it’s glow, and was at the brink of turning into dust.
“How could I forget about this.” I muttered.
“Forget about what?” Dion asked, still pressing buttons.
“It needs power to run.” I said as I retrieved two aether stones from my spatial storage.
I took out the drained stone from the container, and inserted the two I had brought out. After that, I pushed the cylindrical container back into the compartment it had emerged from.
Whiiiiiirl!
The moment I did that, the ship let out a low hum. And like a domino, a crystal like button at the heart of the panel lit up, followed by the rest of the cockpit lighting up.
Even after that though, it took us a couple of minutes to finally figure the controls out.
“Okay, here’s to hoping we don’t crash.” I said as the ship slowly started rising into the air while shaking in tremors at my lack of control.
“Nah bro, there’s no way we could.” Dion grinned putting a hand on my shoulder. His nudge almost made me send the airship crashing into a tree.
I turned to him.
“Do you want us to die?” Of course we couldn’t actually die from a crash this low, or even get injured per say.
In hindsight, the academy was actually the best place to figure this out. There was more than enough space, and even better, we didn’t have to care about crashing on someone else’s house.
I steadily guided the ship as it rose, until we were hundreds of meters into the air, before i turned to the idiot who still had a hand on my shoulder.
“Hold tight.” I said. I was about to stop going up, and begin cruising forward.
As I pushed the control forward a little bit, our bodies were violently pulled backwards from the inertia, and sudden speed at which the airship cut through the air.
“Holy shit!” I cursed out loud as i turned to see Dion sprawled against the wall. I for one didn’t get send flying due to my hands that were still on the controls. The airships weren’t like the enclosed aircrafts back on earth. But even though, they had enchantments to prevent this sort of situation.
The only reason why this happened was that maybe I had increased the speed a little too much at once.
But still, ’Didn’t I only push it a little bit?’
“Bro, are you trying to kill me?” Dion aggrieved voice rang as he got himself up from the wall.
“Remind me again who raised a red flag when I said; here’s to hoping we don’t crash?”
Just as Dion opened his mouth to retort, a voice sounded in the cockpit.
“What are you boys doing?”
