Chapter 18: Plan of Doom
“What exactly do we do though…” Klaus asked whilst smiling awkwardly and rubbing his chin slightly.
“Uh…” Evaline was also lost for ideas, so they both turned towards Nyra, who kept looking between the two of them.
“M-Maybe during the ranking tournament…” Her voice was soft as her hands and smile shook, she looked pretty miserable, well, that’s how it seemed like at least.
“The what,” Klaus instantly asked as he turned towards Evaline, who also shook her head, not having any idea what Nyra was talking about.
Nyra turned her head slightly as she took a seat in Evaline’s chair. “Ranking trials determine your rank within a year…the higher you rank, the better benefits you have…”
“Such as?” Both Klaus and Evaline asked at the exact same time.
“Better equipment, access to better training fields, better library access…” She kept listing things, however, most of them were useless to Klaus.
His head got stuck on the better libraries part.
’Does that make any sense though?’ Klaus turned his head towards Evaline, who didn’t seem to see what he did.
“Shouldn’t the weaker students get the same benefits?” His question made Nyra’s head turn, same with Evaline.
“Why would they do that…?” She shook her head. “They want the strong to get stronger…since they are more useful,” Her explanation did make sense but didn’t at the same time.
’Strength is everything, I guess,’ However, he just smiled and chuckled.
“Then we just have to win—”
“Not possible,” Nyra instantly cut him off, she was getting more brave now, however, Klaus didn’t mind her opening up more.
“Why not? We can team up the three of us and—”
“The son of the king, Matthias Friedrich Sturmfels,” Her voice turned shaky, however, her eyes were clearer than ever before. “is also going to be participating.”
“Huh—”
Before Klaus could even finish his train of thought, Evaline basically jumped up, her voice also was shaky as she grabbed Nyra’s shoulders. “YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS,” she shook her like she was a ragdoll.
“Is that bad news or something?” As soon as he said that, they both turned towards him like he asked about something painfully obvious.
“BAD NEWS?” Evaline basically jumped onto him and did the same thing she did to Nyra.
“He is an extremely powerful and extraordinary mage…” Nyra breathed a sigh as her head drooped down.
Evaline’s grip tightened as she continued. “…his magic is related to teleportation, and he is able to wield a sword at an intermediate level…” Her grip kept tightening, however, Jen lifted her hands up and smiled like a devil as she tried to warn her.
“So he can just do both—”
“His teleportation makes him basically untouchable, for us at least,” Nyra interrupted Klaus again, at this point, he was getting a little irritated, however, he kept calm and smiled.
’…is that how simple-minded they are?’
Back in the game, Klaus dealt with hundreds of different spells and mages, having knowledge about countless spells, this seemed pretty simple if they had Nyra on their side.
“Simple really,” he pointed his hands up and stood, his figure wasn’t tall, but he was taller than the two of them, so he easily towered above them, all two pairs of eyes were on him instantly, “we have YOU!”
He pointed at Nyra, whose lips started shaking instantly as both of them were now looking at her instead.
“M-me?” She pointed at herself, “her?” Evaline pointed at her as well.
“Yup,” Klaus nodded like a big-brain in-game leader, then started talking about his plan.
“Evaline, can you win against Cassian in a one-on-one?” She didn’t answer him instantly, she thought about it for a second, however, after that, she nodded, “If everything is well, then yes.”
’Okay, well, that’s not too fucking confident, but it’ll do,’ Jen chuckled at his thoughts, however, after that, he continued.
“You deal with Cassian then,” he pointed at Evaline, then he turned towards Nyra, “we deal with the teleportation guy and everyone else!”
“…” Both of them stared at him silently like he had lost his mind.
“You mean the two of us deal with THE Matthias…” Nyra smiled in misery as she already regretted coming with Klaus.
“I have a plan, don’t worry, and we have Jen,” he pointed at the fairy floating above her shoulder who just smiled innocently. He was never the best IGL, so he was just hoping on his abilities to work.
’If I can copy one of his skills,’ his eyes slightly shifted towards Jen who showed him two thumbs up.
She already understood what he meant, if Klaus managed to copy his ability for teleporting, then he would be able to overpower him alongside Jen and his Flame Dominion spell.
“What are the chances of this—”
“Fifty-fifty,” finally Klaus was the one who interrupted Nyra, then he turned to analyse Evaline’s face, however, she just looked shocked.
“…” she just stared at him, shocked.
’He can’t be THAT strong,’ he remembered the time Zephyr told him Jen’s level, and he couldn’t possibly be above that…unless.
“Does he have, like…” he thought of a way to ask about it since he didn’t know if they were actually a thing here or not.
“Magic artifacts…” finally finding the correct words, both of the girls looked at him as he sat back down on the bed.
“Potentially,” Evaline finally broke out of her shocked expression, “He IS the heir of a king…” Nyra wanted to laugh in her misery.
“We’ll see, I guess,” Klaus shrugged, to him, the most important thing was the library access.
The girls started talking in front of him, however, his attention shifted to something else, a red panel that appeared in front of him.
[New Quest: Tournament Victor]
[Objective: Be the first place]
[Reward: Access to another Grimoire]
Evaline just waved her hand in front of him, and the windows disappeared, clearly not visible to them.
“Are you listening?” Her smile shook as he stared at him directly in the eye, her gaze was cold now, and annoyed, very…
Nyra sighed in defeat, and Jen flew around happily, however, the two didn’t know why.
’This is going to be a long day,’ despite his thoughts, he looked forward to winning.
