Chapter 57: Slothful Entrance
The gigantic gate spiralled open without any warning. A huge creaking sound echoed, possibly through the entire city, making some of the citizens turn towards the gate in awe.
’Little overly dramatic,’ Klaus sighed, and with a couple of steps, he stood next to the boy. As he saw what was inside, his jaw nearly dropped to the floor.
Tens, hundreds of similar armoured knights stood past the gate, holding weapons, staffs, and shields, which made Klaus nearly throw up.
’Fuck shields,’ it made him remember his final moments on Earth as he glared at the shield-clutching motherfuckers.
The messenger boy, noticing his gaze, started sweating. “Is everything alright, sir?”
Klaus rested his hands on his shoulder, his gaze hardening alongside his grip.
“Oh, everything is more than alright,” he said, despite him saying that the messenger nearly fell onto the ground as his legs shook.
“Let’s go, sir,” the messenger shook his hand off, just barely, and then led him towards the castle, which was towering in front of them.
Klaus let his gaze linger from the knights onto the huge obsidian castle that looked like it was made just recently. It was shining as if it was in brand-new condition.
As they walked past the knights, none of them said anything. They all stood still like trained soldiers. Some were taller than others; however, none of them moved, not even an inch as Klaus passed by them.
“We are here, sir,” the messenger pushed the gate open to the castle and waved his arm in a sign of invitation, letting Klaus go first.
’I guess we are going blind into a dark castle,’ he didn’t think much of it, just stepped in past the gate.
’Damn,’ inside, he could barely feel anything, and the pressure increased at least twofold. It was way rougher than outside, almost like he was in the presence of someone almighty.
Candlelight flickered from the wind coming in through the gate, whilst the messenger was struggling to push it close behind Klaus.
“A-all done,” he panted as he struggled to close the gate. Sweat was now dripping from his body, his limbs were shaking, and he seemed to be on the verge of breaking down. Despite that, he kept walking and leading Klaus to another chamber gate.
“We are here…the king is inside. Make sure not to anger—”
“Let’s just get this over with, please,” he didn’t want to wait, so he just pushed the gate open, cutting the messenger off, who just facepalmed with his shaky hand.
—
Myrrava and King Vaelthar were discussing her future, just trying to be a normal father-daughter discussion for once.
’I don’t want to be the heir—’ Before she could complain again and even finish that thought, the gate to the chamber burst open.
“W-we cannot just do that…” She heard the familiar voice of the messenger from earlier, however, multiple footsteps this time.
She turned, and a handsome young boy stood before the shaking messenger. Normally, anyone who saw the king and the princess would be shaking on their knees; however, the boy didn’t seem to care, as if he just wanted to get it over with.
His medium-long blonde hair shriveled behind him. Some of his hair was slightly covering his golden eyes; however, they were still visible, as if it was the sun shining through endless clouds.
“Good day, sir Vaelthar Thorne, I’m assuming…” The boy said to the king in such a casual manner; however, when he turned back to his father, he didn’t expect his reaction to be so calm.
“I have been waiting!” his father instantly stood as if seeing an old friend from the first time; however, the two had never met.
The boy’s eyes met Myrrava’s, and the messenger seemed to be whispering something in his ear.
“Ah, pleasure to meet you as well, Princess Myrrava,” he just nodded once, which caught Myrrava by surprise, not even knowing how to react. She wasn’t used to this at all; the bowing and kneeling were much more to her liking.
“My name is Klaus Albrecht von Alderstein,” he introduced himself whilst holding out a hand, as if expecting a handshake from the king himself.
’No way,’ however, to Myrrava’s surprise, his father actually shook the boy’s hand. The size difference between the two was insane; his dad was at least twice or even three times Klaus’s size.
’Alderstein?’ Myrrava had heard that name before, a family full of famous martial artists.
“Hahaha!” his father chuckled whilst nearly lifting the boy up by his hand.
“I’ve never expected an Alderstein to deliver me something!” The boy didn’t really seem to enjoy the handshake as he let go and pointed at the ring on his finger.
“I have brought the letter given to me by Headmaster Marcus,” his ring flashed once, and paperwork appeared in his hand, which he handed over to the king like it was the most casual thing.
“Thank you boy, you did a great job,” He took the paper and took once single glance at it.
“How is your father doing, boy? Back in the days we had lots of fights together!” The King chuckled as he reminisced about old times with Klaus’s father.
“I’m not sure myself,” He seemed speechless as he let out a chuckle, however his answer caught the king off guard for some reason.
“Hah! That old bastard is probably still as stuck up as ever!” He started laughing like a maniac, Myrrava had never seen him act like this before whatsoever.
’The hell is wrong with him?’ She was perplexed as she kept peeking from behind her seat quietly without disturbing their conversation.
The king glared at the messenger, who instantly understood what he wanted and left the room.
“Tell me, boy, I’ve heard the Black Knights treated you unfairly, and even hit you once,” his father seemed to be looking at the paper whilst talking to the boy, who just stood so leisurely it was starting to bother Myrrava.
