Chapter 41: Only One Victor
“What did you just say to me?!” The veins on her neck started expanding. “Do you know who you are talking to?!”
“I don’t know and I don’t care,” Klaus shrugged it off, seeing that he had already managed to anger her.
“You don’t care?!” Her face started reddening as even more eyes turned towards the two of them.
“Nope, I do not—”
Before Klaus could even finish that sentence, she grabbed him by the collar and lifted him up.
’Holy, what is this strength..’ He couldn’t even free himself from her grasp. The onlookers started murmuring around.
“I, Jynara Selene Vozyn! Heir to the Vozyn clan!”
’Heir..? Where is she going with this?’
“I challenge you to a duel!”
“Why would I do that?” Klaus’s question made her drop him due to pure surprise.
“Huh,” she was lost for words as she stared at Klaus, who was just pushing himself up from the ground.
The students started murmuring even louder. Some even started pointing and laughing at Klaus, thinking he was scared of Jynara.
“What is in it for me?” His question made her lips twitch as she put her hands on her waist.
“I will become your slave if you best me!”
“That so?”
“W-wait, that’s not a good idea—”
A fellow cat girl tried to stop her and interfere, however, Jynara pushed her back. “Do you think this petite boy will beat me? Hah! Don’t make me laugh!”
’Petite?’ Klaus looked down at his own frame and he kind of understood where she was coming from.
“Deal then, same bet. If you best me, I’ll become your slave,” Klaus said with a smirk as he walked down onto the training ground, followed by Jynara, who was puffing her large chest out proudly, nearly making the buttons on her uniform explode.
’This is going to be easy. She is underestimating me too much,’ Klaus held back the urge to chuckle as she looked at the laughing Jynara, who was clearly floating on her confidence.
They arrived at the middle. The students cleared out instantly as they took their seats in the spectator area.
“Who are you betting on?”
“Bet? Jynara is going to decimate that boy!”
“Bahaha, you think so?”
Klaus looked up at them, however, they kept yapping, but then a guy walked down into the spectator area, his blonde hair waving around as his golden eyes shone bright under the sun.
“I bet one hundred thousand ducats on Klaus Albrecht von Alderstein winning,” Klaus instantly recognised the person, it was Friedrich, his brother, the same one he met after the ranking tournament, however, he didn’t stop at the spectator area, he kept walking towards the grounds.
“One hundred thousand?!”
“Wait, did he just say Alderstein?!”
“That boy won the first-year tournament!”
“Who cares?! Ten thousand ducats he loses!”
“I bet he will! Count me in!”
However, Jyrana wasn’t having it, “So what?” She summoned her sword and took a stance, her purple aura instantly radiating and shutting up the spectators completely.
“I will intervene when I deem the situation dangerous,” Friedrich spoke up, completely ignoring Jyrana who was baring her fangs.
’Will he?’ Their eyes met, and Klaus could tell he was bluffing, but then why would he bet on him?
He put the book down at the side, then readied himself.
“I will count down,” Friedrich extended his hand forward and smiled like this was the best day of his life.
Some students cheered, and some were silent, some even were eating snacks as they spectated.
“3!”
She bore her fangs even more, her aura expanding.
“2!”
Klaus just stood still with his hands in front of him, he was ready for whatever was about to come at him.
“1!”
As soon as Friedrich finished, she instantly dashed forward, leaving a hole in the ground behind her.
’Mirror movement,’ Klaus didn’t hesitate either, at the same time, he already started teleporting around the area, disappearing from her sight.
“Gotta be quicker than that, buddy,” he said as she appeared where the hole was.
She looked behind herself and spat on the ground.
“Crescent Sever!” She spun around and slashed her sword in a crescent moon arc, aiming directly for Klaus’s throat, however, he was ready again, teleporting out of the slash.
“Not bad,” he chuckled as he stood behind her again and extended his hand.
’Thunder lash,’ an arc of lightning extended out of his hands, catching Jyrana off guard and shocking her, but it didn’t cause any damage, she just shook it off and bared her fangs again.
“Phantom Edge!” She dashed forward after shaking it off and thrusted the blade forward, so fast it even left afterimages after itself.
But he dodged again without any problem whatsoever, not just dodged, but readied another spell.
She missed completely, her sword stuck in the ground, creating an explosion so big it was like a smokescreen.
Yet Klaus didn’t wait for it to clear, ’After image,’ another Klaus appeared next to himself and they started walking around her in circles.
’Mirror movement,’ both of the Klaus’s started disappearing and reappearing around her as she kept pulling on her sword.
“Fuck,” she cursed under her breath, beads of sweat forming on her forehead as she was lost, not knowing where to aim.
Friedrich wanted to clap but held the urge back.
’Wind burst!’ One of the Klaus’s launched a spell at Jyrana, pushing her back.
She tried to block with her sword, however, the other Klaus was already behind her.
’Fractured horizon,’ she managed to turn in time and raise her sword, but it was futile, the spell cut through her blade like a knife through butter, its snap shocking the crowd which cheered unimaginably as Jyrana stood still, shocked.
Her hands shaking as the afterimage disappeared, her pupils were dilated as she didn’t know what to do.
“The battle is over!” Friedrich waved his arms and the crowd started cheering instantaneously.
Klaus stood still in front of Jyrana and smiled like an innocent child looking at free candy.
She fell onto her knees, tears welling up in the corners of her eyes as Klaus took slow steps forward.
“Good battle,” he said as he looked down at her, like a predator on its prey.
