Chapter 62: Cursed Book
After they finally arrived in Klaus’s room, he instantly jumped onto the bed.
“What was your mission?” As soon as the door closed behind Jyrana, she didn’t hesitate to start questioning.
Klaus just wiped his eyes with his pillow and pulled the blanket over himself whilst groaning; however, Jyrana pulled the blanket off and sat down on the bed next to him.
“What was it?” She asked again whilst having a sinister smile on her face. “How come you appeared out of nowhere with a girl?”
’Oh my god, what is she saying?’ He wanted to cover his ears with his pillows, but she took them away.
“In short,” Klaus sat up just so she would stop bothering him, “I had to deliver a letter to a king, and I got rewarded. That’s all.” Then he laid back, hoping to be left alone; however, it wasn’t over at all.
“Did you get anything other than the freaky hat?”
Before she could finish that sentence, he darted up again and started tapping his ring, remembering the book. ’Fuck, I forgot,’ Klaus had completely forgotten to even check the book out at all.
The dark, mysterious book appeared in his hand, leaving Jyrana speechless as her eyelids twitched and her tail tucked itself magically.
“What’s that?” She hissed at the book, which nearly made Klaus jump.
’What’s her deal?’ He looked at her body, which was all tensed up whilst staring at the dark book; her tail was tucked contrary to her normal wagging tail, and her ears were perked up, her eyelids twitching alongside her mouth.
“What’s wrong with it?”
“It feels ominous.” She seemed like she couldn’t explain it properly, which made sense; she couldn’t explain anything.
Klaus opened the book, and she instantly jolted up.
“I’ll wait outside,” she darted out the door, her body shaking as it was tensed up completely.
’What? I can’t feel anything…’
Klaus looked through the perfect white text; however, he couldn’t understand it, almost like it was made out of random words, so he just tried to make out some words he could understand instead.
“Urak makhalel…nhino?”
As soon as he finished that sentence, a popup window appeared before him. It’s been a while since he has seen a system message appear; however, it instantly caught his attentiondue to the flashing exclamation marks after the sentence.
[Book of Plundered Fate unlocked!]
[Weakening Book!]
[Host too weak to handle current contents!]
[Spells unlocked!]
[Borrowed Reflex]
[Borrowed Thoughts]
[Coin of Chance]
[Mark of Chance (passive ability!)]
’Woah, what the fuck,’ Klaus glanced through the display screens, seeing a bunch of things he didn’t understand at all.
’A passive ability?’ He never unlocked anything similar so far in his journey, so it was surprising to see they existed.
’What does it even do?’ He looked down at the book and at the panels; however, nothing happened. The book was just in his hands like before, nothing magical happened whatsoever.
It was just like a normal book, except he couldn’t understand a single word from it, almost like he had dyslexia when he was trying to read it.
’Is this like a cursed book? Too weak?’ He looked through the panels, and there were some things he didn’t understand.
He swiped through multiple pages, trying to find any explanation; however, he couldn’t find anything, not a single thing or clue whatsoever.
’What do these skills do then?’ A drop of sweat rolled down his cheeks as his pupils dilated, his eyes rolling through the pages searching for a single word he could comprehend, any kind of clue or help. But nothing.
He slammed the book shut and threw it back into the ring whilst clutching his head. All the flipping and turning caused him an immense headache, nearly making the world spin.
However, it wasn’t finished. Windows started popping up again.
[Level up!]
[Level up!]
Multiple windows flashed in front of him again, just when he thought it would be over; however, all of them disappeared instantly and only one remained in front of him, his eyes widening.
[Level criteria met.]
[Class evolve available.]
[Would you like to evolve your class?]
[Y/N]
“Any info on what it is…?” He asked the panel in front of him, hoping to hear any reply, but nothing came. This might have been an opportunity to be stronger, way stronger. Klaus would even go as far as to say this was an opportunity of a lifetime. However, if it was good and he would just get stronger, then why could he reject it?
His eyes traced the no button, shaking intensely as he hesitated, not knowing what to do.
“If I can reject it, then it must mean it can be hurtful…” His finger hesitated, but it floated towards the no.
Then he remembered his reason, his purpose, wanting to be the strongest. He remembered that he would do anything to be the strongest. No, that was wrong. He had to do everything he possibly could to become the strongest.
“If I want to be as strong as Zephyr…no,” He shook his head, “I want to be stronger than him.” His hand floated closer to the yes. “I don’t want anyone to be comparable to me!” With that, he pressed the yes button.
Then countless windows started flashing in front of him yet again. He couldn’t tell if it was a warning or a threat, but at this point, he was past the point of regret. “Whatever must happen, it will anyways.”
He read the panels slowly.
[Evolution begins!]
As soon as he finished reading it, pain shot through his entire being, his body and soul both.
“Fuck fuck,” His eyes nearly jumped out of his body as he fell to the ground with a thud.
Hearing this, Jyrana leaned closer to the door.
“Master? Is everything okay?” She tried to open the door, but it wouldn’t budge, not for anyone but Klaus.
“Fuck fuck fuck,” Slowly his vision began to blur as his mouth started foaming, and he passed out.
