Chapter 22: Ranking Tournament (4)
Evaline’s colour drained completely, she was as pale as a white star, her pupils dilated as she started stumbling, yet she kept the ring spinning.
Matthias stood silently, watching as he waited for Evaline to collapse, an undeniable smile kept creeping onto his face at the sight in front of him.
“I wanted to team up, but…” He chuckled once, making Evaline’s hair stand on her spine, “now that you made me wait, I’ll just eliminate you.”
“You’re a pathetic…” She coughed as her knees collapsed, making her fall onto the sand. It was cold, despite the spinning flame circle around her.
“A pathetic what—”
“Bastard,” a voice spoke up from behind him, catching him off guard.
’Lightning arc,’ a flash of lightning released from Klaus’s palm, sending Matthias flying, his clothes smoking from the impact of the lightning, creating a dark cloud in the sandstorm.
Evaline smiled at him as the ring collapsed, and she herself did as well.
’Seems like our plan is fucked,’ Klaus looked at the collapsed Evaline whilst Jen kept an eye on Matthias.
—
Back in the teacher’s room, all three of them were on the edge of their seats now, including the students outside watching.
“Seems like the show is about to start,” Ravenna chuckled, however, the other two didn’t find the situation hilarious.
Torren shook his head and looked away, “Matthias will obliterate the kid.”
Isolde, despite being the coldest and most distant of the group, agreed with Torren, however, Ravenna wasn’t on the same wavelength.
“I think the Klaus kid will win,” as soon as she said that, both of the two turned towards her, expressions shocked, but they didn’t say anything.
“Show us what you got, kiddos,” Isolde took a sip of her cold coffee as all of their eyes turned towards the display.
—
“That was rude, dude,” Matthias chuckled as the smokescreen cleared, revealing no scar on his back at all, however, his clothing got destroyed.
A ring started glowing on his finger, regenerating his outfit, layer by layer, like Klaus’s spell had never hit him.
“Wow, you already have a familiar as well,” he kept laughing, his eyes however slowly darkened, meanwhile his hair kept swaying around.
“It’s unfortunate,” he finally stopped, his eyes had completely darkened as a sword appeared from his ring, straight into the palm of his hand.
It was black, like darkness itself had become a weapon.
Even Jen turned towards it for a quick second, then she started healing Evaline, even if she wasn’t injured physically, mentally she was gone.
“What is?” Klaus asked back, his hands in his pockets as two of his books floated in front of him.
One of them was Eternal Archive and the other was Stormweave, Klaus was getting ready to speed up for a quick second and try to record a spell.
Matthias disappeared then reappeared behind him, Klaus couldn’t even see him.
’Record spell!’
[Mirror Movement recorded!]
[Record spell available again in 30 minutes!]
“That you both will be losing today,” he rotated around and swung his sword at Klaus.
’Mirror Movement,’ Klaus disappeared from in front of him in an instant, Matthias’s eyes widened in shock as sweat appeared on his forehead, his swing had completely missed and he hit nothing.
“What..” He turned and Klaus stood a couple of metres behind him, hands in his pockets as the two books floated around him still.
“The fuck?” He laughed in shock as he couldn’t believe what he just saw, he didn’t understand it at all.
“Maybe I’m just too fast for a nobody like you,” So Klaus did what he had to, he started ragebaiting him.
However, Matthias didn’t start raging or cursing at him, all he did was laugh.
“BAHAHAHA,” Like a maniac, he kept laughing, even Jen looked at him weirdly now, trying to find out what the issue with his head was.
“Even if you are fast, you can’t possibly think you can beat me,” After he finished that sentence, he disappeared, Klaus wasn’t able to trace his movements at all, however, Matthias appeared above him, and then thousand swords did as well.
Not just Matthias’s own fists, almost like he was sending multiple slashes at the same time in his direction.
’Mirror movement,’ Klaus moved away, ducking the entire attack. The desert seemed to shake as all the slashes landed, which created a crater.
“You’re a silent caster as well?” Matthias climbed out of the crater, which slowly got filled again by the sand as the storm was still going on.
Their vision got worse and worse due to the conditions of the weather. However, Matthias seemed to have forgotten Evaline completely and was solely focusing on Klaus now.
“Silent caster?” Klaus stood still, hands in pockets, as his blonde hair was starting to get dirty now due to all the sand.
“You aren’t even aware?” He laughed again, his sword dragging in the sand as he walked closer.
“I’m a silent caster as well,” his steps slowed down slightly. “Say, why don’t we team up?”
’Silent caster…isn’t that normal?’ Jen slightly shook at Klaus’s lack of interest and knowledge, however, she didn’t show it.
Normally, Klaus wouldn’t have rejected this offer. Matthias was definitely strong, he could tell. However, he had to complete the quest.
“Nah,” Matthias’s expression shook as he heard Klaus. However, he didn’t get angry. He stayed calm despite the rejection.
“Suit yourself,” he disappeared again, his movements untraceable for Klaus. However, he didn’t have to trace them.
’Disappears and attacks, then reappears and repeats this process,’ so he just copied him and disappeared as well.
’Mirror movement,’ it was an endless act for both of the boys, appearing and disappearing. None of them seemed to stop. No hits were landed at all. Klaus couldn’t hit Matthias, and Matthias couldn’t hit Klaus at all either.
’I just need to stall until Jen is done,’ he sighed as he disappeared again and again, repeatedly spamming the spell. However, Matthias couldn’t keep up now.
He reappeared and seemed… exhausted.
“Just how big is your mana pool?” He was gasping for air as the sword in his hands shook, yet Klaus didn’t feel any type of way at all.
He was relaxed and composed, waiting for the perfect opportunity which seemed to come.
’Jen, conjure one single fire spear,’ and Jen did as she was told, a blazing rod appearing above her.
“Fire spear!”
’Flaming dominion,’ which then started floating around Klaus, rotating like he was controlling the flame with his will.
“No way…” Matthias chuckled in between the grasps, as Klaus wasn’t just matching his speed, but controlling flames and lightning as well.
His speed could be blamed on lightning, however, now that he saw him control flames as well, he already knew it.
“You can control multiple affinities…” His voice was shaken, he hadn’t seen many people capable of doing this, ever. Especially a child his age.
