Chapter 68: Future Ability
“Hm, how should I explain it?” He started scratching the back of his head as he looked up at the sky.
“I guess you could say every super strong person has a realm.”
“Super strong…? Like what level of strong?”
Orined laughed out loud at his question, “Only the strongest of course! Like me, Maschbach, Seltile, and so on—”
“Did you just say Maschbach?” Klaus nearly choked on the fish as he remembered Zephyr and his mother mentioning Maschbach.
“Yes, we used to be friends, until he betrayed my trust.” His eyes turned distant as he stared down onto the ground, his hands clutched into a fist and the veins on his arms instantly started popping.
“He betrayed your trust?” Klaus didn’t understand what he meant by that.
“Don’t worry about it,” he waved it off; however, Klaus could tell he was bothered by the question, and he was just trying to change the topic, so he didn’t push further.
“Back on the topic of realms!” He pointed up like a teacher would when a student made a good point.
“You need insane amounts of excess mana to be able to create your own realm; as you could see from my memories that I shared with you, you should be able to try many things using the techniques I transferred to you.” He chuckled once, “Though your mana stores might limit you! But fret not—”
Just as he was going to dismiss Klaus, a pure ball of mana started floating in front of him, materialising in golden colour, changing the air pressure around itself.
“Like this?”
“…” Orined was lost for words as he stared at the ball mouth agape. He never expected it for Klaus to pull something like that off on the first try; even if he transferred the information to him, it would take him years and years to master them.
’Is this what they call a genius?’
Oriden chuckled as he shook his head, “Yes, like that… that’s a mana ball; the more you charge it, the stronger it gets; if you push enough mana into it, you can create a ball that’s capable of destroying even cities.”
’Woah woah,’ Klaus dismissed the ball before he would accidentally detonate it and blow his own body apart.
“Don’t worry, anyways,” he took a seat as well then started picking out some white fish meat from between his teeth with his bare hands.
’Kind of disgusting,’ however Klaus didn’t bother; he took another bite.
“That’s one of the one hundred techniques I transferred to you through remembrance. I made sure to only give you techniques which will prove useful in the future. I didn’t teach you anything useless, so do not worry.” He chuckled awkwardly like he was lying; however, Klaus knew he wasn’t. He saw all of the techniques and things Oriden did in the memories, the amounts of months and years he spent mastering each technique, yet it took him, well, years, to transfer them to him.
Klaus stared at the one-eyed man who was now just picking at his teeth.
’Why would he help me so much?’
“Hm? Why are you staring?” Oriden leaned in closer, which nearly made Klaus choke.
“I just have one question,” he swallowed the piece in his mouth then put the fish down. At this point, he didn’t care if it was dirty; he was far past the point of caring.
“Sure, go ahead,” Oriden leaned back, holding his bodyweight up with his bare hands.
“Why help me?” However, his question nearly made Oriden fall backwards onto the grass.
“That is a good question…” He chuckled awkwardly then let out a sigh.
“I challenged the gods, but,” his eyes turned melancholic as he recalled his memories, “I never defeated a single one of them.”
’Well, of course..’ Klaus just stared awkwardly, not even knowing how to reply.
“I couldn’t even put a scratch on any of the gods, BUT!” He puffed his chest as if the next part would be better, “I still challenged them..”
“Which leads to my next question,” Oriden turned towards Klaus who was now starting to get interested.
“Do you exist outside of this?” He looked around; he saw the lake in the distance, the many trees, the birds chirping, the sun shining, the smell of freshly cut grass…for some reason, “This realm?”
“No,” Oriden smiled as he looked up at the sky.
“I am just a mere fragment now; people used to pray to me like I was a god, as you may know, from the temple.” Klaus remembered the temple he was in, which was old, covered in moss, dirt, snakes; it was definitely not used ever in recent years.
“But now, most people have forgotten about me.” He chuckled awkwardly and pulled out his sword, the same one he did previously.
“This is what I used when I challenged the gods, alongside the mana techniques you saw.”
“And you didn’t even manage to scratch them?”
“No,” He shook his head, his eyebrows twitching slightly, “Not even a single scratch. They were just toying around with me.”
“So,” He smiled and leaned forward, “I helped you because of the vision you told me.”
“Just because of that?” Klaus turned his head to the side, surprised.
“Yes, because of what you said.” He kept nodding, then he chuckled once, “If the overseer showed you that vision, then that means he believes in you.”
“Believes in me?” His face scrunched up, not even understanding what he meant.
He remembered the cat, but he didn’t really tell him anything useful, unless there was a hidden meaning behind the vision that he didn’t understand. Which was probably true.
“Yes, he believes in you to defeat the gods, those corrupted beings who rule our world; he believes you have the chance to defeat them.”
“What?” His face turned even paler than what it already was; his eyes twitched, not even being able to grasp the meanings.
“Defeat the gods?” He asked back, surprise evident on his face.
“Yes, he believes you have the power to kill them in the future, perhaps all of them. You have the chance to become the strongest; that is why I helped you.”
