Naturally I saw this and thought that it wasn’t nearly effective enough as while the stuff was blown away in the sim room it did still exist in a semi usable fashion. I really didn’t want to inspire whatever few bandits survived the initial bombings to turtle up with all this stuff making it all the more a pain in the ass to get the key and get out. With this in mind I modified the design to release a corrosive liquid in mist form within it’s blast radius.-
One more sim explosion later and I had my perfect bombs that not only had a high lethality upon detonation but also drenched any unlucky fucker able to survive that in acid, war crimes for the win! Naturally the matter of actually dropping the bombs off in the canyon came up but that was easy to settle as we had Bloodwing. Mordy was a bit skeptical about this idea at first to be fair but one snazzy shield upgrade for the bird courtesy of yours truly and that problem was no longer an issue. Honestly it wasn’t even all that fucking hard to upgrade the birds uncommon quality shield to epic quality with my current knowledge and skills.-
I even made the shield reflective so any bullets that hit it got the “return to sender” treatment. I bit the bullet and upgraded everyone’s shields while I was at it even if it did cost me a hefty amount of my current stock of Eridian metal. Still I can say that the group likely had some of the best shield tech on the planet at the end. Thanks to my Eridian knowledge and the magic of Scooters savant trait I got each of my friends equipped with a legendary quality shield.-
The real fucking kicker was that I even added some personalized effects tailored to each of them so the shields not only improved their defense but also their offenses as well. For Brick I gave his shield a kinetic absorption and enhancement property. This basically meant that his punches grew stronger the more he got shot, like a nightmare monster. For Mordy I added a slight cloaking effect to his shield so that if he remained still he blended into his surroundings making him even more effective as a sniper.-
Roland got the turret upgrade that automatically dropped a copy of his Scorpio turret when broken giving him just enough cover to regen his shield without letting up the pressure on the enemies. Though I should specify that the copy was the sort with a short lifespan that ceased to exist once it’s time ran out unlike the normal one built to last so no turret duping happening here. Lil’s shield was particularly tricky to do and also not fucking surprisingly the most expensive for me to upgrade. I had to more or less redo her entire shield with Eridian metal from the casing to the circuitry and wiring. This made her shield not only the best out of everyone’s other than mine but also the most unique looking.-
It was a silver/red color with a hexagonal shape that had the center exposed in a shiny pearl like color. From the sides of the shield red fiery energy was ejected whenever she used her powers that activated the ability of the shield. In this case her shield absorbed the excess energy from her powers and stored it into a violent nova that was released upon the shield breaking. –
It was more or less an extra “get away from me” mechanism in case her powers somehow fail to save her from an attack. It was also passive so even if she failed to manually activate it there was no problems. Anyway with that done with we were ready to take on Krom’s canyon.
“Looks like that’s my que to get outta here.” Clay said once we got ready to go.
I took a bottle of bourbon from my inventory and tossed it to him. “Give the old man my thanks when you get back.” I said with a smile.
“Will do, would wish you luck but at this point I think the bandits need it more. Any last minute requests?” he asked and I thought about it before nodding.
“See if you can’t find me a planetary energy harmonizer, not picky as to the wear and tear so long as it works.” I said seriously and he raised an eyebrow before shrugging.
“Sure, I’ll keep an eye out. Don’t expect too much though, awfully specific piece of tech after all.” he said before leaving through the portal.
I pull up my map on my echo and look at the route to the canyon to get it in my head before nodding. “Alright lady and not-so-gentlemen, let’s go fuck up some bandits day.” I said with a grin as I slip my mask on.
We walked out of my house and with a push of a button I put the place away. We walked through town like we were on a mission(cuz we are) and soon got to Scooters place where we got our rides. The Badger for me and the runners for the others. Wheels taken care of we drove out of New Haven and took the road to the Rust commons and from there the road to Krom’s canyon that was just past the water retaining gates at the end of sludge river. There were fences up when we got there so we had to hoof it.-
I raised my hand to stop everyone when I caught sight of the way forward.
“Theres three turrets and like two dozen bandits of various flavors up ahead. Mordy you think you can quietly take out the gunners if I get you up high?” I asked seriously.
“Probably, need a clean line of sight though.” he said with a shrug.
“Would that do?” I asked pointing at the top of the metal structure for the water gate that was about fifteen feet above us.
“Yeah but how am I….WAIT!” he started to question before I grabbed the front of his vest before spinning him around a couple times to built momentum and threw his ass at the thing screaming all the way.
“That was awesome, Me next!” Brick said excitedly.
“Maybe next time man.” I said with a chuckle.
Mordy despite being quite unprepared for his impromptu flight caught the edge of the metal structure and pulled himself up easily.
He gave me the finger angrily before pulling out the Nailer and taking aim. “FWEH!” “FWEH!” “FWEH!” three shots and thanks to my superhuman vision I saw all three land on the gunners and render the turrets they were on useless. Mordy grimaced when he realized that he had to jump to get down from the metal structure before he did it. I easily caught him before he hit the ground and set him down casually.
“See? No problem at all.” I said with a chuckle as he glared at me.
“Would have liked a warning first.” he said with a scowl.
I just grinned and shrugged at that. What came next could barely be considered a fight and was more along the lines of a slaughter. We walked into the small pond/source of the river and ignored the rusty scaffolds and now empty turrets as we headed for the crevice that led to the canyon. The couple dozen bandits camped out in this area died to us after trying(and failing) to kill us. The 31,602 units of lifeforce I got from them was a nice bonus with the common and uncommon quality loot they dropped as well.-
Walking through the crevice we finally entered Krom’s canyon and I had to admit the guy at least had good fucking taste in locations. The canyon walls were tall and sheer with many levels of ledges that without the help of the makeshift bridges would be ridiculously hard to climb. Other than the top of the canyon this place was pretty much impossible to siege without throwing a massive amount of bullets at it. It also didn’t help that there was technically two fucking canyons in fact with the right one being a dead end and the left having Krom at the end in his little platform scrap throne.
