And like fucking always there were two vending machines in a metal scrap thingy. One healing and one ammo. By this point I was numb to the appearance of these things and merely pointed them out before taking out the bombs from my inventory.
“Alright Bloodwing it’s your turn. Go drop off our presents to the naughty children.” I said with a grin.
“What’s to stop them from just tossing the things away?” Roland asked worriedly.
“Stupidity mostly. Rather than toss them away you should be worried about them eating the fucking things.” I said seriously.
“Yeah bandits can be pretty stupid.” Brick said with a nod of agreement.
Mordy had Bloodwing grab a couple of bombs and drop them off in the encampments on the canyon ledges in multiple trips before the pile of bombs was finally gone.
I held up the detonator with a grin “What did the fingers say to the face?” i asked with a grin.
“What?” Brick asked curiously.
“Slap!” I said with a laugh as I slammed my palm down on the button.
“BOOOOOOM!” Several explosions went off simultaneously as the bombs detonated sending a wave of pressure through the canyon while shaking the ground.
We rounded the corner of the canyon and I grinned at what I saw. the encampments were blown apart and what few bandits survived the initial explosions were mostly covered in caustic liquid eating them alive or were heavily disoriented from the explosions fucking up their senses. It was like taking candy from a quadriplegic how easily we went through the canyon and finished off the few bandits still kicking. My lifeforce stores grew drastically as well as there had to be at least a hundred bandits here originally which gave me 107,571 lifeforce by the time we reached Krom’s little scrap nest.-
The guy himself had a Mulciber turret that we weren’t expecting but Mordy put a hole through his head before it made an impact beyond forcing us to cover when he first started firing at us.
“Hold up is that a fucking Medtrap unit!?” I asked in surprise when we got up to the scrap nest.
“Finally! Someone who actually knows what i’m worth! You may worship me at your leisure.” the white and red painted bot said while flexing.
“Yeah, no. I will take you with me though, you’ll be useful once I get you reprogrammed slightly. Less cowardice and hemophobia and more actual medical usefulness.” I said with a chuckle.
“Sigh. Can’t win them all I guess.” the bot said depressed.
“You just going to collect these things or something?” Brick asked confused.
“I’ll try and get a complete collection if I can since all most versions need to be useful is a slight reprogram. Best part is I won’t even need to touch the personality matrixes so they’ll be as zany as before, just more useful.” I said with a shrug as I tossed the bot into my house before putting it away again.
“Well that takes care of that but what about this gun?” Lil asked pointing at the purple glowing light that rose out of the ash pile that used to be Krom.
[Name: Krom’s sidearm
Level: Epic(UNIQUE)
Type: Repeater pistol
Damage type: Shock x3
Manufacturer: ATLAS
Affix: A gift from papa Krom
Has three round burst capability and large magazine size without reduced accuracy.]
“A custom piece? That’s pretty rare! This guy must have been pretty well off before he was abandoned by the corporations.” I said as I looked over the pistol seriously.
It was a fairly standard shape for an Atlas pistol, very traditional minimalistic appearance. It had two yellow stripes painted down the front of the otherwise grey weapon and besides the shock module barely visible under the barrel was a no nonsense pistol.
“He was the warden of Dahls prison here on Pandora before the corporation left us all here. Leslie I believe was his original name.” Tannis said through our echoes.
“What is with people and hacking echoes on this planet?” I complained.
“To be fair the echo communicators have never had particularly good encryption, something about it being unprofitable.”
Tannis said seriously.
“Figures, so to what do we owe the lovely sound of your voice on this errand of ours?” I asked with a smirk.
“Flattery with get you nowhere, though I do have a pleasant voice. My communication at this time is because I assumed you were close to retrieving my original piece of the vault key. The lack of murderous sounds queued me to this.” she said calmly.
“Yep, it’s in the chest nearby if I’m not wrong. These bandits clearly don’t understand not to keep valuable shit so easily accessible. Second piece that was just waiting for us to pluck it the fuck up.” I said with a sigh as I walked over and twisted the latches on the silver crate causing the top to pop open.
Lo and motherfucking behold there in the middle of the crate sandwiched between rolls of cash was the glowing alien key fragment humming with energy, primed for use.
‘So I was right. This key also served as a data storage device of a sorts.’ I though as I saw that the shape of the fragment was the same at the previous on with the exposed projection and connection areas on it clearly designed to work as a whole to project data once charged and stimulated properly.
“Second key piece acquired, good work team, high five!” I said with a grin as I held up my hand but only Brick actually gave me a high five.
“You found another piece of the key without my help. Or did you? I’m always watching you friends. Be careful, others are starting to see their own opportunity.” The angel said over our echoes.
“You do realize you can drop the “mysterious angel” shtick right? Like we’ve been on to you for a while now. Not quite sure WHY you want us to open the vault since we’d be the ones who got the loot, assuming there IS loot anyways. Whatever the case give it a think, maybe sleep on it, we’ve got time.” I said knowing damn well she heard me.
(Third person POV- Hyperion office)
“Is what he said.” angel said after repeating Alex’s words.
“Funny thing is that in any other circumstance he’d probably be right in that they’d get the loot. This vault though is a bit special in that it’s all that Eridium hidden beneath the surface of the planet that it’s tied to. The vault itself is merely a prison feeding window from the records i’ve been able to translate. Worst case scenario they kill the thing inside it and we lose the body to this guys powers. Best case? Then they kill each other and we get both the monster AND this guys tech. Either way that Eridium pops and we get rich mining and researching it.” the man at the desk said with a smirk.
“Would a cooperative attitude not serve us better then, especially if the projections of his growth are right?” Angel asked seriously.
“I still find it hard to believe that a human would ever be capable of that but perhaps you are right, best not to risk it. Send him a private message telling him about the Eridium as a sign of good faith, ask for a partnership. See how he responds, we’ll go from there.” the man said seriously.
“Understood.” angel said.
The man then turned his attention back to the computer screen that displayed a long and complicated amount of programming code. In the top left corner of the screen a holographic display of an unusual looking Claptrap unit rotated slowly with the label [Fragtrap-Experimental].
