I of course carefully assembled the gun and the moment I finished a bright pillar of orange light came off it and a screen about it showed up.
BLING!
[Name: Dirty Nailer
Level: legendary
Type: Machine repeater sniper rifle
Damage type: Shock x6
Manufacturer: DRAKE
Affix: The last thing you never see.
Has near limitless ammunition but a slow reload speed. Extreme range.]
“Whew! God damn you look fine.” I mutter with a whistle of appreciation at the stats of this gun I’ve made.
The “dirty” in the name was not by choice so much as something that got added automatically because of the higher focus in elemental damage than should be normal. This wasn’t the first time the name of a gun or shield changed with the stats of the thing itself as my original gun and shield had similar changes after I finished modifying them. It was just a sort of rule of this reality for some reason and I could only shrug at it and move on. I had no intention of keeping this gun for myself however as it simply didn’t fit my style of combat.-
I liked getting up close and personal when in a fight and even with bullets being involved I was rarely taking shots from further than fifteen meters of my targets. You might be wondering why I was even interested in the Volcano then and the answer was simple, miniaturization. The Volcano unlike the Nailer could be modified into a smaller form without trading it’s damage or unique fire ability though it would drastically lower the range it was usable. I’d need to swap it’s firing mechanism and convert the ammo to shotgun slugs but as a pump action rifle to begin with this wasn’t that major a swap.-
To be completely honest the Volcano being converted to a shotgun would make it go from a decent gun to an absolute fucking beast of immolation. I put that off for later though as for now I needed to test this badass gun I had just made and who better for that then the resident sniper himself, Mordy? When I walked out of the hallway with the Nailer in hand all eyes were on me but Mordy in particular looked like he had just seen the most beautiful woman ever.-
“You just going to look or do you want to give her a test run?” I asked with a smirk.
“Don’t have to tell me twice!” he said eagerly getting up out of his chair and rushing over.
We all headed for the sim room and I gave them the rundown of what this sniper rifle was capable of and how it worked since it was slightly different from the normal sort.
“So first thing you need to understand is that pulling the trigger doesn’t fire the gun but instead generates the “bullet”. You will instead fire the gun by releasing the trigger once the “bullet” is fully made. Doesn’t take long either, maybe a millisecond or so. There should be a slight sound to tell you when to release the trigger. Second the scope magnifies up to two hundred miles away which is the theoretical distance the thing can hit a target with the right conditions.” I said and Mordy gaped at me.
“How much power does this thing pack?” Roland asked with a serious expression.
I shrugged “No fucking clue honestly, should be a lot though. Oh right almost forgot to mention that it can punch through shields like they are made of butter since the “bullet” is entirely made of energy.” I said casually.
“You mean to say you made a gun that can go through shields like they don’t exist and has a range of two hundred miles? I pity anyone who ends up on your shit list, won’t even know how they died.” Lil said with a wary look at the gun I was still holding.
“Oh I’m not going to use the thing myself, not my speed ya feel me? Mordy though? This gun is right up in his sweet spot.” I said with a grin.
We arrived at the sim room at this point and I handed the Nailer over to Mordy who lifted it a couple time with a surprised look.
“She’s really light, like holding a pistol instead of a sniper, feels weird.” he said honestly.
“Simulate a distance of two hundred miles, Place us on an elevation of thirty thousand feet without the cold, create a row of immobile humanoid targets two meters apart all the way to the horizon!” I commanded the room and the scenery started to shift and change to create what I wanted.
The room wasn’t actually bigger however but thanks to some handy spatial manipulation the “bullet” being shot would travel as though it was in fact that big. The air also thinned as though we were actually at the top of a mountain and the wind being simulated fit as well. The only inconsistency was the temperature which was still not frigid like it would be at that elevation. By no means was it comfortable however and Mordy wasted no time at all taking his first shot at the nearest sim soldier. “FWEW!” the gun barely made a sound louder than a whisper as the “bullet” was sent flying out.-
None of the others even got a glance at it due to the speed it was traveling but thanks to my bullshit senses and minor spatial awareness I got a good feel for the projectile before it passed right through the sim soldier it hit. It was more or less a rod about an inch and a half long and about as big around as a standard twenty two round. It also had a ridiculous amount of power behind it as it hit the sim soldier and then went through it and the next eight behind it before finally being stopped when it hit the ninth.-
Well saying it was stopped wasn’t entirely accurate so much as the energy that made up the “bullet” fucking unraveled into ambient energy that was impossible to even perceive much less be harmed by.
“Huh? So that’s what happens when the bullet finishes it’s journey, neat.” I muttered out loud while the others just stared at the gun in shock.
“There was no recoil at all and it did that? What sort of voodoo did you do to accomplish this?” Mordy asked as he looked at the gun in his hands in awe.
“No voodoo, science. You can thank the Eridians for that by the way as their understanding of the subject is so mindgasmly deep that I literally have no fucking clue where to begin with the mere fraction I have access to. Thankfully I don’t need to understand to put some of it to use.” I said with a shrug.
“If this is what you can make without really understanding the stuff I am worried about what you’d be able to create if you did.” Roland said seriously and the others nodded in agreement.
“I want something this cool too!” Brick complained and I chuckled.
“Oh I already have plans for you mate, don’t you worry.” I said with a grin that would have greatly concerned all of them if they could see it.
“I’m going to see if I can’t hit that target out at two hundred miles like you said.” Mordy said as he raised the scope to his eye again.
“FWEW!”
The shot whispered as it was released and this time we could legitimately see the “bullet” as it flew for a few moments before the sim soldier at the horizon faded away in a confirmed hit and kill.
“And what did you say you wanted for this again?” Mordy asked while lovingly stroking the gun.
“Not a dime. We have a deal remember? You guys, and gal get more Eridian metal and I give you a cool new toy to play with. That gun is a sort of down payment I suppose you could say.” I said honestly.
I certainly hadn’t forgotten that deal we made previously even if Mordy may have been joking when he made it. I seriously needed the metal and tech and by giving them a taste of the good stuff I motivated all of them to take that deal seriously.-
My friends were each to some extent greedy individuals who loved loot as much as I did and the promise of loot like this was fatally attractive to them. I had little doubt that they’d kill any Seraph guardians they could now to funnel that Eridian goodness my way. Gods knew that there was plenty of the robotic bastards on this dirtball after all. Pandora was kinda infamous for the sheer volume of Eridian stuff found on it with even it’s moon Elpis supposedly having some traces.
