Chapter 16: Blood Knights

Myles and Nyxara discussed their plan for a while. Myles stated he wanted to increase her combat power and Nyxara suggested bringing him to the training arena, where Blood Knights were mostly located, training and fighting against each other.

Nyxara proudly shared that her mother was the strongest in terms of demonic martial arts, where even the strongest Blood Knights were unable to defeat her.

Myles inquired if Succubus could master demonic arts and demonic martial arts at the same time and Nyxara answered that noble demons, especially when they were promising individuals, could become a hybrid like her mother.

Myles understood. He also learned martial arts suited for bodyguards and he wanted to refine them into demonic martial arts and slightly altered them.

Since he mastered a martial art, he might as well improve and alter it to a better version.

Myles and Nyxara traveled outside of the city mansion and instantly became the cynosure of all eyes.

Strangely, the crimson moon lit up the world just fine.

As Myles was lost in thoughts, they eventually reached the training arena.

The training arena reminded Myles of the colosseum built by the Roman Empire.

The structure appeared ancient too—seemingly built from mud or bricks.

However, it was definitely a miniature version and modest.

When they reached the door, where the Blood Knights guarded it and welcomed her, Myles asked, “Isn’t this supposed to be a Training Arena? Why are there seating areas for spectators?”

Nyxara grinned and replied, “A training arena would be boring for Blood Knights, who always sought pride for their strength and job. The cheer, the due, the battle, are the most efficient training for them.

Furthermore, it was win-win for us, too. Velmoryss’ city earned a lot from this event.”

Myles was intrigued. “When is the next event?”

They finally entered the training arena, and they saw the arena floor was filled with Blood Knights.

They paused their footsteps as Nyxara replied, “It should be next week. Why? Are you interested?”

Myles nodded. He swept his gaze around and observed the appearance of the Blood Knights in the training.

When he observed the way they train, his eyes widened.

He smiled. “So, that’s how it is.”

Each of the Blood Knights were paired against each other. One Blood Knight attacked and the other was in a defensive position.

The latter had a training dummy beside him, and he was protecting it as the attacker focused on assaulting it.

Myles was reminded of his training back when he was a bodyguard.

Nyxara said, “If you want to learn demonic martial arts from them, then you will learn to fight like that, too. Anyway, you’ll always be by my side in the public, so you have to act that you can protect me at all times. What you learn from them won’t be wasted.”

Myles said, “Don’t worry. I’m actually looking for that type of demonic martial arts.”

Nyxara nodded. “Also, I won’t allow you to kill one of them to digest their core. They can sense the death of their kin, and killing them will leave you their scent.”

Myles furrowed his eyebrows.

Nyxara smiled. “However, you can enslave one of them. However, wait for me to give them to you. I’ll look for the best potential among them, so your time and effort will not be wasted.”

Myles ceased frowning and nodded.

“Alright, let’s introduce you to them.”

Nyxara led Myles to the arena floor, walking on the stairs.

Myles then was able to scrutinize closely the Blood Knights and realized they were the same size as him.

They wore glowing vein-plates from head to toe, leaving only their eyes open.

He was intrigued they could reshape their weapons at will.

Are their weapons made out of blood?

Then, he saw one of them having their armor pierced through and it quickly regenerated.

His eyes widened.

Is that their innate skill?

He could not help but wonder how it appeared overpowered than the succubus’ innate skill when their bloodline was only at the Greater Demon rank.

As though Nyxara sensed his thoughts, she said, “They are weapons of war created by the first Demon King, who also established the Nhar’zorath kingdom.”

Myles creased his eyebrows. “Won’t enslaving one of them gain the attention of the King?”

Nyxara’s eyes widened.

“Yeah. I haven’t thought of that.”

Myles narrowed his eyes. He continued to gaze at the Blood Knight and asked, “Say, if it’s the Blood Knights that belong to your ownership, I can’t kill them. But, how about if it belongs to others?”

Nyxara’s eyes widened.

“Then, I allow it. From what I know, the Blood Knights are strange. When one Blood Knight swore loyalty to a noble through the gift of the Demon King, they only recognized their kin if they were under the same noble.”
