Chapter 33: An Anomaly
“You’re lucky. The Abyssal Scribe who crafted your armor was a student in the Royal Academy.”
Myles was stunned. He asked, “Why? How many Abyssal Scribes work here?”
“It’s a family. When he was transferred here, he brought his wife. After decades, his sons are the one who managed the runemaking, mass producing artifacts, while he is busy creating artifacts that are Rank D and above that are commissioned by the Lady of Chains and Whisphered Vows.”
“Rank D?”
The Commander didn’t answer his question as they finally arrived in front of another door.
Earlier, along the way, they quietly proceeded while ignoring the blacksmith and the abyssal scribes working loudly. The clash of metals, the scratching noise, and the rusty smell, it was certainly a place not for everyone.
The Commander knocked the door first before opening them.
It was just an empty dark room, but when the Commander turned on the light, the Abyssal Scribe was finally revealed.
He was sleeping on a table, snoring loudly.
Myles scrutinized him. The only distinct traits on his appearance was he had longer and thicker hairs.
The Abyssal Scribe was finally awakened and said, “There.” He pointed at the armor at the corner of the door.
The Commander and Myles simultaneously turned around and were awestruck by the beauty of armor.
It really appeared similar to the armor of the Blood Knights — constantly pulsing faintly like a living organism.
Though, its distinction was the fact it appeared more of a light armor than a heavy armor.
Myles was speechless. He turned towards the Commander and saw his eyes seemingly conveying he was smirking.
The Commander said, “The Lady of Chains and Whisphered Vows asked if he could make an armor similar to ours.”
“Why is that the case?”
The Commander turned towards Myles and said, “So, you will act as a Blood Knight instead of your current appearance. The Lady of Chains and Whisphered Vows worried that you might get too much attention and you would certainly die inside the Royal Academy.
She didn’t want her daughter to be a knightless noble. It’s a shame for a noble student who graduated with such status.”
“Go, get your armor.”
“Wait,” said the Abyssal Scribe.
They simultaneously glanced at the Abyssal Scribe, who stood up, and walked towards them.
The closer the distance between him and Commander and Myles, the more Myles realized how tall he was.
He is far taller than the drawing in the text book and the abyssal scribes outside.
The Abyssal Scribe went past them and arrived in front of the armor. He caressed his masterpiece and mumbled,
“This is a Rank D Tier 1 artifact I created in a short time.”
“Tier 1?” The Commander was stunned.
“I never expected the Lady of Chains and Whisphered Vows provided me with high-quality materials. And thus, this armor reached Tier 1.”
He turned around and scrutinized Myles.
His face went into full disgust and said, “To think this hybrid will be blessed to wear this armor. You better not disappoint me.”
Myles smiled. “Of course, I won’t. Thank you for creating such a masterpiece.”
The Abyssal Scribe was awestruck. He suddenly smiled and patted Myles’ shoulder.
He said, “You have keen eyes. Indeed, that’s a masterpiece. Even if I have created artifacts that are better than this, it’s still a masterpiece for me.”
Myles smiled at him and nodded.
He thought. They really are a simple-minded race.
The Abyssal Scribe turned around and grabbed the armor. He gave it to Myles, and the latter thanked him.
He wore the armor and was surprised it was not as heavy as it appeared.
The Abyssal Scribe helped him wear the armor and said, “I have integrated this armor with four rune arrays. First, the Blood Dominion Runes, allowing the armor to exist as liquid, solid, or mist, but it will only adapt depending on your body state.”
Myles was surprised. He didn’t expect the armor to have an adaptation ability.
“Second is the Blood Reconstitution Runes, it self-heals when damaged.”
“Third is the Force Distribution Runes, it disperses blunt-force trauma.”
“Disperses blunt-force trauma?” Myles couldn’t help but ask.
“It simply means it spreads the impact over a large area on the armor to reduce the concentrated pressure at a single point area.”
“I see. Thank you for clarifying.”
The Abyssal Scribe smiled at Myles for how polite he was.
He said, “Lastly, the Edge Dissolution Runes, it softens incoming blades.”
The Commander asked, “Rank D Tier 1 artifacts are Law-Holding Artifacts, right? What is the law that the armor awakens?”
The Abyssal Scribe looked at him and said, “It’s obviously the Law of Blood. I’ve researched the effects and discovered there were five of them.
First, it moves to automatically block attacks. Second, it reduces visibility and sound while moving. Third, it remembers attacks and adapts over time. Fourth, it converts small wounds into armor regeneration. Lastly, the armor syncs with stealth movement.”
The Commander was speechless.
After a while, watching Myles move around to adapt with the light armor, he said, “He’s far from being a Blood Knight, he’s more like an assassin.”
The Abyssal Scribe rolled his eyes and replied, “In the first place, aren’t your race’s assassins, too? Just that, you become one when you ascend in the Great Demon rank.”
“And he’s not. Have you forgotten I asked for the heavy armor? You’ve changed the design, haven’t you?”
The Abyssal Scribe was frustrated. He exclaimed, “Because I have the rights!”
“Than the Lady of Chains and Whisphered Vows?”
The Abyssal Scribe was startled. He took a deep breath and exhaled for a long time to simmer down.
He said, “She said in the letter that I can change the design if I have to.”
“You don’t even have to.”
“If I didn’t, it wouldn’t have reached Tier 1.”
The Commander was unable to respond immediately.
He sighed. “It’s fine, either way. In the first place, he lacked our natural eyes.”
He turned towards Myles and said, “If they asked about how different you are from us, just say you are just an anomaly.”
Myles nodded and instantly replied, “Sure. It suits me.”
