Chapter 61: Noble Department
Myles met with the Guardian of Scarlet Bond, who was sitting in the seat beside the headmaster’s throne-seat.
When she saw Myles appearing in the knight wing, she rolled her eyes.
“Took you quite a long time, huh?”
Myles bowed deeply and said in a polite tone, “I apologized, Guardian of Scarlet Bond.”
The Guardian of Scarlet Bond appeared beside her and said, “No matter. We can only hope the Guardian of Obsidian Descent already prepared the copy for you.”
The Guardian of Scarlet Bond then led Myles to the noble wing, instantly disappearing on the other side.
…
When they entered through the noble wing, mid-way, there were suddenly seven massive archways—each subtly reshaped by the crown that governs its nobles. At the head of the massive archways were symbols of each crowns.
The Guardian of Scarlet Bond entered through the corridor of the Crown of Velvet Wing.
The stone arches curved elegantly, and the crimson light diffused like candle-glow through misted glass. The walls were smooth, warm, and almost breathing.
There was faint laughter echoing without a source. There were also performed air that shifted with emotion. Myles noticed his shadow lingered longer than they should.
In fact, his connection with the shadow in the corridor was at best, causing him to be tempted to become a noble student.
After they passed through the long, gently curving passage lined with crimson silk banners bearing the Velvet sigil, low-burning blood-lanterns, and seating alcoves where some nobles stopped to talk, they finally arrived at the other end of the corridor.
The Guardian of Scarlet Bond stopped and asked Myles, “Do you know why we don’t even have a dormitory inside the Royal Academy?”
Myles asked, “Why?”
“Because we have our own classroom. It’ll be our secondary home.”
The Guardian of Scarlet Bond faced a low, elegant palace and said, “That is called the Halls of Resonance. That’s where our classroom is. Like me, the Guardian of Obsidian Descent is the new instructor in the Royal Academy.”
The Guardian of Scarlet Bond began to walk towards the Halls of Resonance.
Myles scrutinized it. Its structure was formed of smooth crimson marble and dark glass. The walls were gently curved as if shaped by touch rather than tools. Tall, arched windows were veiled with translucent crimson crystal, glowing softly from within, giving the impression that emotions are what illuminate the halls.
Velvet banners were also hung loosely from slender spires, barely stirring even when the wind passed, while faint reflections of passing figures rippled across the glass, as though the building was quietly observing them.
There were no sharp edges, no visible defenses—only an unsettling sense that anyone who entered had already been noticed, measured, and welcomed on the building’s own terms.
That was then Myles realized if he wanted to become a noble student, he must have a great skill of concealment.
The noble department sure is heavily guarded.
As soon as they entered, the Guardian of Scarlet Bond led Myles into one of the circular rooms.
When the door was abruptly opened, they instantly saw the Guardian of Obsidian Descent sitting on his table, seemingly reading a manual.
They walked towards him as he turned his head and smiled.
“So, you’re finally here.”
He waited until the Guardian of Scarlet Bond arrived beside him.
The Guardian of Scarlet Bond paved a way for Myles to stand closer to Guardian of Obsidian Descent.
The Guardian of Obsidian Descent remained in his position as he passed the manual he was reading to Myles.
He said, “That’s our demonic art called Black Marionette Rite. It anchors our shadow threads into a target’s shadow and nervous system, turning their body in a controlled vessel. That manual is basically teaching us how to properly execute our innate art. It’s our most precious, ancient, demonic art that fully understands our innate art.”
Myles received the manual and read the cover. His eyes lit up. This is exactly what I need to elevate my comprehension in the Shadow Manipulation.
Also, it seems I can develop another demonic art inspired out of this manual to completely match the Shadow Manipulation, an epic rank, a major rank higher than the Shadow Threads.
He tried his best to restrain his excitement, but he failed to realize that the sigils present in the building easily revealed his emotion to the Guardian of Obsidian Descent and Guardian of Scarlet Bond.
The Guardian of Obsidian Descent was surprised by how excited he was after reading the cover.
He asked, “Why are you so excited in receiving our demonic arts? Can you, perhaps, learn it? Only demonic races with shadow affinity can learn it. As far as I know, only our race with shadow affinity remained.”
Myles was surprised he was caught. He quickly realized it was because emotions were observed by means he was not aware of in the Crown of Velvet.
In the end, he said, “I’m simply eager to learn about demonic art. As for whether I can completely learn and execute it, that’s up to fate.”
The Guardian of Obsidian Descent was surprised and confused by what he meant.
He tilted his head sideways and asked, “Are you a noble? Or a hybrid with our bloodline? I commend the creator of that half-sigil artifact, though.”
Myles was stunned. He turned towards the Guardian of Scarlet Bond and the latter simply smiled at her.
Myles sighed and asked, “I did awaken your bloodline, but not the affinity with the shadow. Nevertheless, I’m still hopeful.”
The Guardian of Obsidian Descent was surprised. He laughed but a minute later, his face became stern.
“It’s impossible. You’re just wasting the chance I gave you.” He shrugged and his countenance relaxed. “Whatever. That’s your choice. Also, even if you awaken the shadow affinity, there’s no way it’s as high as our pure bloodline affinity level. You also have to be careful against my students and their knights, too.
The news of a Blood Knight killing a demon noble has already circulated around. All eyes are around you.”
Myles frowned. He thought. So, that explains why the shadows around me when I entered the Knight Department are behaving strangely.
