Chapter 60: Knight Race
When Myles entered their dormitory room, he was reminded of a military room when he was training as a reserve soldier. It was simple and plain, and the room was spacious enough to hold ten double decks.
Rose’ Blood Knight said, “You can choose the unoccupied bed.”
It was obvious which bed was unoccupied. Myles took the farthest bed, seemingly isolating himself from them.
His seniors did not mind, as they watched Myles grab a bed sheet. Surprisingly, he also placed a linen that covered his space from their vision, causing the Blood Knight to be curious.
As much as they wanted to inquire Myles about it, they restrained themselves. Every knight has freedom in their personal space, hiding themselves or not was none of their concern.
As soon as Myles felt the cover sheet completely hid him from their vision, he took out the Crimson Phantom Mantle.
His disabled wings, whenever he wore the mantle, were finally freed, spreading themselves and stretching as far as they could.
Myles hurriedly retracted them, cautious against the eyes of his fellow Blood Knight.
He placed the mantle on the bed, as he sat on it, contemplating.
This is actually the best place for me to kill other knights and gain their innate arts. However, I can’t be careless. I have to observe first. One mistake will be the death of me.
As he was lost in thought, Rose’ Blood Knight said, “Gather her in a minute.”
However, Myles waited for half a minute to pass by before wearing the mantle again and instantly appeared beside Pink’s Blood Knight, sitting in a circle with the other Blood Knights.
Rose’ Blood Knight glanced at Myles and did not bother about him being tardy.
He said, “For now, we must address ourselves based on hierarchy. I will be your Captain and I will address you all based on seniority, not skills.”
He then pointed at the Blood Knight, who was in the fifth year in the Royal Academy. “You will be the first sergeant.”
“You will be the second sergeant….”
Aside from him, he gave the title to his fellow Blood Knight, seniors of Myles and others, a sergeant rank.
When it came to Myles, he said, “You will be the first knight cadet. Second knight cadet…”
Magenta’s Blood Knight was the fourth knight cadet. It was obvious that even if the captain ranked them based on seniority, Myles was still ranked based on power in his batch.
Afterwards, the Captain said, “Now, I will give our knight cadet a brief information about the Knight Department in the Royal Academy.
There are four courses in the Knight Department.
First, the Crown Combat Doctrine. It is an advanced combat training focused on how each crown fights differently and how to survive those differences. To put it simply, we’ll be fighting against different knight races and be more familiar with their arts.
Second, Aura Dominance and Combat Manifestation. This course trains us to project our presence as weapons. It is not just refinement, but pressure. With aura, it will be easier to oppress criminals, especially common demons and below. Of course, different crowns have different focuses.
Third, the Siege, March, and Mass Warfare. It trains us, the knights, to function in large-scale demon warfare.
Fourth is the Ritual Duels and Knight Lineages. In simple words, the law of violence. Every duel in Nha’zorath has rules, witnesses, and consequences. After all, we duel for ourselves, for our nobles, and thus, losing a sanctioned duel can destroy lineage’s standing.
This is where most of the knights failed and eventually got expelled by the Royal Academy.”
The Captain paused for a while, sweeping his gaze at Myles and other first year Blood Knights.
He said, “The daily life of a knight cadet is simple. We woke up for dawn drills. Then, midday sparring or aura training. Then, afternoon battlefield simulation. Evening duels or noble escort duty. And night evaluations, but it’s unannounced.
In other words, rest is earned.”
The Captain paused and asked, “Are there any questions?”
Myles immediately asked, “May I know the knight races and their innate arts?”
The Captain nodded. “Good question. As we all know, Blood Knights are universal knights, supposedly, but only the Emperor and the succubus houses owned them. Other noble races developed their own knight races throughout the millenia.
Hence, the Crown of Velvet has three knight races, Blood Knight, Shadowbind Knight, and the Eidolon Sentinels. Since you already know about Shadowbind Knights, let’s talk about Eidolon Sentinels.
They are the knight race of the Dream Sirens. Their innate skill is called Dream Cage, which imprison targets in shared illusions. However, only if you stared too long on their white-glass helms. Furthermore, they have mist-like bodies, requiring demonic energy to inflict successful damage to them.”
Myles asked, “In other words, their innate art is the lesser version of the Dream Sirens?”
“Exactly.” The Captain smiled.
He continued, “The Crown of Chains has four noble races, but they only have two knight races. The other two noble races actually preferred to not have a knight. However, His Majesty still requires them to develop their knight race for the next hundred years. If they fail to do so, then they have to breed a Blood Knight.”
Suddenly, the first sergeant stole the conversation after the Captain paused mid-way.
“By the way, the first knight cadet should return to the Grand Hall. There is only less than an hour left before the Crimson Matriculation begins. We can’t let the Guardian of Scarlet Bond wait for you.”
Myles was stunned. He just recalled he was eagerly waiting for the demonic art of the incubus. Yet, here he was, having a lengthy conversation with the Captain.
The Captain sensed the hesitation from Myles. He had an idea or two, so he said, “You’ll eventually know about it. But, you can’t certainly offend the Guardian of Scarlet Bond. Go and we’ll meet again in the Crimson Matriculation.”
Myles nodded and finally stood up.
