Chapter 240: 240: The Abyss

There was a tense silence hanging in the air, between Simon, Merath, and Jorra.

Simon stared indifferently at the stunned duo, but the gears in his mind were working at full speed.

He had taken a gamble, a gamble that could either work or backfire terribly.

Instead of exposing the fact that he knew about Daemons or instead of acting ignorant, he decided to take the initiative.

He decided to change the flow of the game because he needed information and he wanted to be in control.

Deciding to be ignorant might make Merath and Jorra to leave him alone, but that also meant that he’d remain ignorant.

Merath and Jorra could also come for him later, and their next confrontation might be more violent.

Choosing to be ignorant left him in a passive position and it also meant he’d have no choice but to remain ignorant, not knowing why exactly Jorra and Merath wanted to know the status of Thorgan.

He didn’t want this.

Now, two Daemons?

He needed some level of control. He needed to be more informed this time around. He could not just fly blind and hope for the best outcome, or leave his life to the hands of fate.

Having no information on two looming threats was bad enough.

But having zero information on three looming threats was just absurd and foolish.

Which is why he decided to expose the fact that he knew Thorgan was a Daemon.

’One of the worst things that could happen is me becoming enemies with both of them at this moment, but that’s better for me compared to me not being certain when they might become my enemies.’

’Sigh.’

’So many problems just because I killed Thorgan.’

Although Simon was a little bit frustrated, he had no regrets killing Thorgan. Since he had killed him, then he had killed him.

He had to focus on the future, not the past.

Nearly six seconds passed after Simon spoke, and Merath and Jorra finally came out of their shocked state.

Merath looked at Jorra, and Jorra nodded.

Jorra opened his eyes, and Simon’s eyes flashed with curiosity when he saw a bronze cracked bell with a mouth filled with rows of teeth on its surface.

“What’s that, Lilith?”

“A noise eater.”

Simon could not help but raise a brow. “Another eater?”

“Hmm.” Lilith just hummed and nodded, and she said nothing else.

Simon did not ask anymore, his eyes was on the bronze cracked bell with a mouth.

He did not need Lilith to explain what the noise eater since it was obvious from the name.

The noise eater opened its mouth and a suction force emerged from its mouth.

Nothing seemed to have been sucked into its mouth, and only a slight disturbance occured.

Simon raised a brow slightly. There seemed to be no changes around them, but Simon knew that there was in fact, a change.

Simon glanced at the people around them.

’So, they can’t hear anything huh.’

The moment Simon had this thought, Merath spoke with a cold voice.

“How do you know about Daemons?”

Simon calmly looked at her. “Because I’m one myself.”

Merath’s eyes widened slightly, but Simon decided to clarify while subtly glancing at the Lie Eater.

He had to be careful with his answers to certain questions.

“But I’m not a full Daemon yet… I’ve only been able to awaken a portion of my Daemon bloodline.”

Merath’s coldness and surprise turned into a slight frown.

“How did you know you awakened a Daemon bloodline? Those who awaken only a small fraction of their Daemon bloodline don’t usually know that their a Daemon. So how did you know? How did you know about Daemons in general?”

Jorra walked forward with a cold expression behind his mask after Merath spoke.

“Who told you about Daemons?” He asked coldly.

Simon nonchalantly shrugged.

“Who knows.”

There were a few believable lies he could come up with, but because of the Lie Eater, he decided to just not respond to their questions.

Merath and Jorra frowned.

“Why don’t you tell me what you want to do with Thorgan.”

Merath and Jorra glared at him.

“You have not answered a single one of our questions, so how do you expect us to answer your question?”

Simon nodded.

“True… But you guys are the ones that came to ask if I killed Thorgan from out of nowhere. I’ve already been questioned by the clan and even Sunless, you questioning me again is annoying.”

“At least, if you’re suspicious of me killing Thorgan, then tell me why you’re asking about his status.”

“And don’t tell me that it’s because we’re classmates. We both know that it’s not because of that, but because of his Daemon bloodline. I cannot keep on answering everybody that questions me.”

Merath and Jorra went silent because there was a bit of truth to Simon’s words.

If they were in Simon’s shoes and they were being repeatedly questioned because they were a suspect in a murder case, they’d be frustrated also.

However, Jorra was not having it.

“You were clearly about to answer Merath’s question, but you stopped. Why did you stop?”

Simon was about to say because he felt a threat to his life, but he was worried that the Lie Eater would detect that as a lie, despite the fact that it was partially true.

He did nearly have a heart attack from Lilith’s scream, but he was not going to take that chance.

’That Lie Eater is a problem.’

He nonchalantly shrugged. “Because I can?”

Jorra glared at him, and Simon chuckled softly.

“If you cannot tell me why you want to know if Thorgan is dead or alive, then forget about talking to me. You may leave.”

Simon indifferenly waved his hand like he was shooing a fly, causing Jorra’s gaze to become deathly cold.

“You lowly hybrid scum. Who do you-”

To everybody’s surprise, Merath said the reason.

“So that he can join our organization.”

Simon raised a brow. “What organization?”

“The Abyss.”
