Chapter 109: Factions
The council room was quite far.
After around fifteen minutes of long walk, we had finally reached our destination.
I thought about knocking on the door, but as it was the seniors who had asked us to visit, I skipped the formalities.
Pushing the door wide open, we entered the room.
The room was actually a wide hall, with several small rooms in its enclosed space.
Each of the smaller rooms had a signboard above them.
There were some for the several committees in the student council, while some were separate rooms for positions of importance in the council.
As for our registration, it was in the open space between all the rooms.
A huge table was spread out, with several students skimming through various files.
Noticing our arrival, one of the seniors waved at us.
I glanced at John once before walking towards the senior.
“Are you here to enroll for the council selections?”
The senior asked us.
“Yes.”
Giving a brief reply, I pushed John forward.
“Register his name.”
The senior looked at John for a second longer before shifting his focus to me.
“You are Kael Frost, right? The top ranker in the first year.”
He kept looking at me with narrowed eyes, as if truly trying to remember my identity details.
“What of it?”
At my question, the senior shifted from his previous expression, now closer to something like confusion.
“Shouldn’t you apply for the council too? With your abilities, you will surely get recruited.”
“The position isn’t attractive enough. Not worth the troubles.”
After a long pause, I replied in a measured tone, without sounding arrogant.
The senior’s eyes flickered with surprise.
“Not attractive? I think you get pretty decent benefits, including—”
“Write his name.”
I interrupted the council member’s speech midway.
I already knew all the benefits.
The senior was flustered for a moment before he took out an application form.
“Here, write your name and year. Also write your reason for joining the council. You may also add your combat or any other specialties in this column.”
Explaining the necessary details, the senior stepped back, letting John fill out the form.
I too waited in silence, my gaze wandering around the hall.
There were quite a number of students in the council. Well, it was expected, as the academy had students till the fifth year.
To manage such large numbers, the student council had to have a decent force for themselves.
And looking at each of the students, I sensed that not even a single one of them was weak.
All of them were in their silver ranks, with some on the verge of evolving to the next rank.
Not that they could!
At least not in a year or two.
Being on the verge of evolving, and having the capability to evolve were two entirely different things.
But I could say that each of the students here was a force to be reckoned with in the outside world.
Though there were many silver rankers in the world… The number was large because so was the entire population of the world.
But the ratio of rankers was truly small.
So achieving the silver rank, while being a student, was pretty decent, even by my standards.
And the ones on the verge of evolving to the Gold rank were even greater monsters than the rest.
Another reason why the student council was valued so much and had such great authority in the academy was not only because of the present strength of its members, but also their future potential.
Each member of the council was a monster in their own right, and no student or staff member was foolish enough to antagonize any of them.
After graduating from the academy, every member of the student council had gone on to become the most influential individuals in the world.
Their words had weight in the broader politics of the entire planet.
“Here.”
Having filled his form, John handed it to the senior, who had just patiently waited on the side without saying anything else.
Not for a second did I take this kind of behaviour as normal.
This guy—
“Kael, was it?”
The senior directed his attention at me once again.
Surely he was waiting for another chance to talk with me without sounding desperate.
“If getting a low-ranked position is your only reason for not joining the council, then does that mean that in case you are offered a good amount of power, you may have a change of interest?”
The senior asked in an above-formal polite voice.
As the candidates who were going to fight for the position of the president needed the support of the council members…
It was normal for the council to be divided into different factions, each supporting their own leaders.
This guy seemed to be part of some faction too.
I just nodded my head at his question.
Seemingly satisfied with my response, the senior gave us a bright smile.
“Well then, have a good day.”
As the senior waved at us, John replied with an equal gesture.
I had already begun to leave the hall.
As I had come here with John just to help him fill out the form, it seemed to have given the desired message to at least one of the factions in the council.
With that, John’s entry into the council was fixed with a hundred percent certainty.
Just as I was about to grab the handle of the door—
It opened from the other side.
I had already removed my hand from the handle, as my attention shifted to the person entering the hall.
With dark black hair, and equally black eyes, a girl with a royal bearing stepped in.
The firstborn of the Frosts, and Kael’s elder sister—
Victoria Frost.
As soon as she opened the door and saw another person before her, Victoria paused before raising her head to look into my eyes.
Her stoic expression remained the same, with no change whatsoever.
Though I had already seen the slight raise of her eyebrows—something she quickly managed to hide.
