Chapter 129: Copy That
“Where the hell have you been? Why didn’t you answer my fucking calls?!”
“Calm down! Why are you shouting, and what’s the big—”
“I can’t! That guy is attending the auction, and we need to change the plans or at least speed them up or do whatever to avoid getting killed!”
“That guy? Who, Arnold? Don’t worry about him. You know the plan, we just—”
“NO! Not him. It’s Remzi. He is attending the auction with Arnold in the VIP room. I think he has some suspicions about me, but he didn’t act outright.”
No. 762’s voice was shaky as he managed to cough up the words on his mind.
No. 800 found it amusing that a criminal like him could get so afraid of something. There was not even a hint of No. 762’s playful attitude, and all that could be seen was anxiety and… fear.
“Listen, hey!”
No. 800 placed his hand on No. 762’s shoulder. Though both of them didn’t like each other, No. 800 knew the seriousness of the situation and didn’t let their petty conflicts come in between.
Remzi was a terror for all criminals across the empire and beyond.
Someone had to live under a cave for a lifetime to not know about Remzi.
But—
“We are not the criminals we used to be. Remzi is dangerous, yes… but that’s when he has a sufficient force under him to act on his commands.”
No. 800 took the logical approach.
“Right now, we have a force of our own, and even if Remzi chooses to interfere, all the men that he can command are the ones in the auction house, so…”
Though No. 800 didn’t speak further, No. 762 had now calmed down listening to his statement.
Plans had already been made to fight the forces present in the auction house, and that included having assigned sufficient forces of their own for this mission.
Even Arnold, who was supposed to be a Platinum 5 ranker, would be dealt with effectively.
“Yeah… haa… that’s right. Maybe meeting him directly had caused me to panic unnecessarily.”
Taking deep breaths, No. 762 had largely stabilised himself.
“So… should we head back?”
“No. There’s no need. Those guys have already arrived, and there’s no need for us to get caught in the crossfire.”
Shooting down No. 762’s suggestion, No. 800 made his way to the pantry.
No. 762, having nothing else to do, did the same, as they waited…
For things to kick off.
***
“Is everyone in place?”
“Yes, sir. But we still have to receive an update from Team Bravo.”
“Alright! Let’s get in position.”
Tap! Tap! Tap!
The soldiers made their way towards the main hall, securing each of its exit points.
“Team Bravo reporting! We have secured the position and are ready to engage. I repeat, we are ready to engage. Over!”
“Team Bravo—copy that. Wait for further instructions. Over.”
The frequency-based communication device buzzed with the assault team’s message.
Team Bravo was tasked with raiding the vault of the auction house, while Team Alpha was the main assault team that would be fighting the central forces of the guild in the auction hall itself.
Explosives were already placed all around the place by the Numbers who had infiltrated the auction house some one to two months ago.
Team Charlie had already taken position in the control room, having disabled all the monitors to avoid their faces being leaked to the authorities during combat.
Team Delta, the last of the four teams sent on the mission, was responsible for securing the perimeters of the auction house and the safe exit of the other teams.
Such categorization of the teams had made it far easier for the members of D.X. to successfully execute many operations without sustaining heavy casualties.
Many of the members were war veterans, but never in their lives had they seen such a simplified tactic for fluidity in operations.
Coordination between the soldiers was of utmost importance, and many a time the strongest armies fell not because they lacked power, but because they lacked leadership capable enough of commanding the entire army.
Lack of coordination led to chaos, resulting in losses that could have been easily avoided with sufficient preparation.
The heads of D.X. were truly insightful to have invented such things from scratch.
Every soldier involved in the mission knew that history was being created today, as for the first time such a grand raid was being executed on an auction house without fearing any possible repercussions.
None of them felt any fear for what they were doing, as killing was an activity that most criminals enjoyed—especially if the targets were the authorities that had harassed them for years.
“Now the next lot shall begin, so hold your…”
“Team Bravo, proceed. I repeat, Team Bravo, proceed. Over!”
“Copy that! Over.”
No. 720 signalled his team to spread out.
Tap! Tap! Tap!
The soldiers dispersed, each one selecting a target of their own.
The vault had a total of thirty guards securing its entrance, with the highest being at Silver 1.
No. 720, who was the strongest among the team and was also at Silver 1, moved towards the most dangerous variable on the field.
The strength of every individual guarding the auction house was mapped out, and thus a team having the capability to counter them was assigned according to the threat levels they were exposed to.
Moving slowly, No. 720 tried to hide his presence as much as he could.
All the other members of the team had similarly moved closer to their targets, waiting for the order to engage.
The vault was behind a huge door, and the entire space leading to the vault was a compact hallway.
It was impossible to kill the guards before any of them realized they were attacked, as the hallway only had a single entrance that stretched parallel to it.
The guards kept changing their positions from time to time, making the job harder by every second.
No. 720 glanced at the watch on his hand, waiting for the right moment.
