Chapter 174: Delusional
I could see Victoria deflecting one of the swords aimed at her, while crouching down at the same time.
Mana had begun to condense around her, as she purposefully let all of my clones approach closer to her.
I quietly moved behind her, as Victoria was preparing to execute her spell.
My presence had been reduced to a near negligible level, and was impossible to sense for someone who couldn’t use mana sense.
And Victoria too, thinking that all of my clones were now around her, had let herself delude in the dream of her supposed victory.
The time was near.
I willed mana through my muscles, while my stance was set to attack Victoria the moment she would execute her spell.
“Don’t! Please!”
“Kael, back off, you coward!”
I could hear the shouts from Alicia and Kevin along with many others, who were able to see me with their eyes.
My lips stretched in an amused smile, as I found it funny.
They wanted to save their sister, but didn’t dare to intervene in the battle to defend her.
And calling me a coward…
It was amusing.
Without letting any of the background noise distract me, I focused my entire attention on Victoria.
One.
Two.
“Epentra.”
Heh.
Boom!
The moment Victoria uttered the words, I dismissed all of my clones, as a loud explosion engulfed the area around her.
Victoria was now covered in a cloud of smoke, which took some seconds to settle.
I could also sense some water projectiles launching themselves into the open sky.
Water bullets may have been the right word for them, as the projectiles were small, yet the speed at which they were launched was… terrifying.
I had to admit it, had my clones been in its area of attack, they would have surely sustained lethal damage.
Fuu…
I could now see Victoria as the dust had settled a bit.
“Just where are you—”
Swoosh.
Spurt!
“Got you.”
Victoria couldn’t finish her statement, as my sword moved in a chilling arc, severing her dominant hand, which had gripped her sword tightly in order to finish me after the impact from the spell.
Too bad.
Victoria was strong, and I couldn’t say whether I could defeat her again using the same methods, as her ignorance about my strength and her bias towards the Kael in the past had led her to believe in her victory.
Still… I had won.
The fact was clear.
“That was easy.”
Walking from behind her, I stopped just before her face, as Victoria raised her head slightly to look at me.
The pain might have taken some seconds to register, as Victoria looked confused.
Crouching down, I looked her in the eye… Or maybe I looked down on her.
Seeing Victoria’s face, which still had the determination to fight… something clicked in me.
That look…
I didn’t know why, but I had an instinctive urge to put her in the place that she deserved.
Humming slightly, I raised the sword in my hand, before resting it on Victoria’s neck.
Victoria was someone who had no use in my goals.
She wasn’t worth enough to even act as bait of any sort.
Should I—kill her?
“Stop!”
Hm?
I turned my head to look at Alicia, who came running in my direction—Victoria’s direction, to be specific, tears streaming down her cheeks.
“Don’t.”
Victoria’s silent whisper reached my ears.
Did she really think that the situation was in her control?
Despite everything, Victoria looked like she was ready to fight another battle with me, and her eyes still had that look of invincibility in them.
Sigh.
Maybe…
Death was the only way for her to learn.
I pressed the blade deeper into Victoria’s neck, as the latter was trying to stand up.
“Don’t test me.”
My voice was calm, and so were my actions.
I thought that maybe Victoria would back down after sensing the threat from my words, but—
“Wasn’t I clear?”
I was proven wrong.
My mana pressure descended on Victoria, as her body lost its balance under the pressure—
But my sword held her in place.
The girl was too delusional.
“Stop, please!”
Before I could speak again, Alicia stood between us, her delicate hands placed on my sword, as she desperately pleaded for her sister’s wellbeing.
Sigh.
I couldn’t really understand the actions of these nobles.
Just some minutes ago, the same girl had an arrogant look on her face, as she looked at me with contempt.
Like I was something that wasn’t worth her attention, and now—
The same girl was pleading before me.
Where was all the self-respect and the honour of nobility?
Wasn’t she a Frost?
Shouldn’t their kind have more dignity in their mere selves?
Being the protector of their subjects and all that crap.
“Alicia… move.”
Victoria uttered the words, as she looked at me with the same contempt in her eyes that she had shown earlier.
Did she think I was afraid to kill her?
I knew the consequences of killing her, as it was a crime that wasn’t tolerated by the academy.
But—
I didn’t think Nemur would really want to get on my opposite side only because I had killed the daughter of some duke.
There may be repercussions, including the wrath of Castor Frost, but—
It wasn’t like I was helpless either.
I hadn’t come to this academy to be some destined hero.
I was here for my goals, and at the end of the day, I wasn’t innocent.
Being the head of a criminal organization would surely put me against all the powerhouses of this world, so making that outcome arrive faster wouldn’t really affect me much.
It was just that I wanted to preserve my identity as Kael Frost, as someone who was under the law, so that I could exploit that very law to its utmost limits.
And killing Victoria would surely destroy many of my goals, as I could even be labelled as an international criminal.
Haa…
The choice was a little tedious task. But—
Maybe…
I should just kill her—
“Student Kael, please restrain yourself.”
