Chapter 124: Great Start
“Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. I hope your night will go as pleasantly as the day.”
The Auctioneer stood on the stage in his usual formal clothes.
His hair was styled at the sides, a round glass placed on his right eye.
The entire hall went silent as all the lights were now focused on the stage.
The auctioneer had a black blazer matched with a white shirt, that reflected the soft light falling on the stage.
Artificial air conditioning was added in the room to ventilate the atmosphere and keep the guests refreshed.
Auctions generally lasted for a long time, which could result in some guests losing interest in buying the items due to the conditions around them.
So it was of paramount importance to ensure the well-being of the customers.
Auctions like these arranged by the alchemy guilds were more than mere business for the guilds.
They were a medium for guilds to retain their loyal buyers by offering them products that were not sold normally.
The potions were divided into various tiers, with the lower the tier number, the higher the quality of the potions.
But to buy the potions of the highest grades, the customers had to have a high enough level on the guild’s buyer list.
For that, participating in such auctions was a necessity, as such an act showed their trust in the guild, which in return resulted in an addition to their level.
“Today, our Guild has decided to sell Tier 2 potions for the first time.”
Clap. Clap. Clap.
The auctioneer paused as there was a big round of applause at his statement.
Looking around, many people were excited to see the potions being sold, even after knowing that they might not be able to buy them.
As Tier 2 potions were the second-highest potions that were available in the public market.
Normally the potions were divided into 10 tiers, and were mostly used by those of Diamond rank and below.
The Immortals didn’t need them, as they had better methods to compensate for the use of potions.
For a Diamond ranker, only Tier 4 and above potions were useful, as the remaining potions didn’t have much visible effect on their bodies, which had evolved after the rank-up.
So even though the Tier 2 potions wouldn’t be of much use for the guests themselves, they would surely buy them for their soldiers who were in the Platinum and Diamond ranks.
Producing a Tier 2 potion required far greater alchemy skills than producing a Tier 3 potion.
The difference was too big, and that was what divided the alchemy guilds in their ranks.
Now that this particular guild could produce a Tier 2 potion, it would soon grow to become one of the major guilds of the empire.
“It was only due to the efforts and determination of our alchemists that we were able to achieve such splendid results. On that note, your personal level in the guild will have a much larger increase on buying the potion than what you could have gained in normal circumstances.”
The Auctioneer spoke with his usual calm and soothing voice, as the previous applause turned even bigger.
“Maybe we could buy one or two, what do you think?”
“I want to, but surely the competition would be tough.”
“Why the hell are you two worrying about buying those things? You don’t even have any Diamond ranker in your house.”
The auction house had now been filled with the buzz of possibly buying these potions.
They might not have a use for them immediately, but surely there would come a time to use them.
Though even the Platinum rankers could practically consume the Tier 2 potions, its effects would be far less than what the potion could have in the body of a Diamond core.
As one evolved their cores, the bodies of the individuals became efficient enough to absorb the contents in higher-grade potions.
Otherwise, it would be a waste to use such a thing on the lower ranks, even though they would get an amplified effect compared to the potions that were generally distributed for their own rank.
“I won’t be taking much of your time. The auction shall begin now.”
The Auctioneer shifted his attention towards the pedestal, where the first item to be auctioned appeared.
It was a green leaf with red lines in between.
“This, here, what you are seeing, gentlemen, is the leaf of Aactle. It is one of the rarest herbs on the planet, and is generally hard to extract.”
The audience cheered upon seeing the first item itself, as the quality of the commodity showed the level of the lots to be auctioned later.
“We will begin the bidding at twenty thousand credits, and each subsequent bid must increase by at least a thousand credits.”
The Auctioneer took a long pause as he scanned the guests sitting before him.
He also gave a brief glance to each VIP booth that was placed above the general hall.
“So… let’s begin!”
“21,000 credits.”
A man spoke up, being the first to raise the bid.
“22,000 credits.”
A woman in her thirties raised her hand.
“25,000.”
Another stern voice broke the murmurs as all heads turned towards a man in his fifties.
“Do I hear 25,000 credits? That’s a generous increase. Anyone else?”
The people began discussing among themselves, some thinking of raising the bids, but paying on the first item itself would reduce their wallets, thereby removing them from further competition.
Seeing no one raising the bid, the Auctioneer’s loud yet firm voice echoed through the hall again.
“25,000 going once… going twice… and sold!”
Bang!
The auctioneer brought the hammer down on the table.
Clap. Clap. Clap.
The deal was closed with huge applause from the crowd.
This was one of the many things that made auctions a sight to see.
People competing against one another and then cheering the winner was a pleasure for many hearts to see.
“That was a great start. Let’s not waste any time and jump onto our next commodity.”
