Chapter 142: Hate Me
“Such a sweet girl. The gods have truly blessed you, my lord.”
A man in his fifties commented while observing a little girl of around seven years of age.
The other man, the supposed father of the girl and also the head of House Dracoth, just looked at his daughter with indifference.
He didn’t comment, nor did he reject the praises that were showered upon her.
“The tea is ready.”
A maid approached the two gentlemen, leading them to the garden.
As the two men walked, discussing things of importance, the black walls of the mansion surrounded them from all sides.
Every corner of the mansion screamed of wealth and power.
Calling it a mansion would be an understatement, as it was a palace housing one of the major powers in the world.
The Dracoths.
The vampires were a race who were gifted with strong physical capabilities from birth. Their agility was unmatched among all the other races inhabiting Jutan.
The insane regenerative abilities of the vampires were one of the main reasons behind their absolute dominance in the ecosystem.
No matter how injured a vampire was, his natural healing capability would recover the wounds in a very short amount of time, though it depended on the purity of his bloodline.
For common vampires, the regeneration was like an advanced version of healing, which could recover any wound in about half the time that it would take for other races to heal the same amount of injury.
But despite being called regeneration, it wasn’t powerful enough to heal an entirely cut-off arm or other organs of the body. It wasn’t that they couldn’t be healed at all, but it took several months to years to heal an injury of such calibre.
Then, as one moved up the ladder of hierarchy in vampires, the power of their abilities increased by several levels, with some of the royals having instant regeneration.
Currently, among the major forces governing the world, vampires were among the top, with the only limiting factor being their slow reproductive abilities.
It took much more time for a new vampire to be born, which led them to be at a disadvantage against species that could reproduce rapidly.
It was the sole reason behind the vampires not launching an all-out war against the other races, humans in particular.
And among this race of vampires, House Dracoth was one of the four ruling families.
That was why strength and absolute power had been the main driving force behind their growth and was something that was expected from every vampire who was born into the house.
But the second princess of House Dracoth wasn’t someone who was interested in increasing her combat prowess.
When she had turned six years of age, her father had repeatedly asked her to train in the ancestral battle arts that were used by the Dracoths.
But Amelia had never shown any interest in it.
For the entirety of the time, she would always be engaged in reading books or learning about general politics in the world.
Though her talent in these things was unbelievable, Aarthius Dracoth wanted her to excel in combat.
He valued her talent in strategies and technology, but as a princess, he wanted his daughter to be someone she was meant to be.
No matter the era, every descendant of their house had always been a powerhouse among the best geniuses in the world.
Though his other children were strong, Aarthius wanted Amelia to be the same.
But no matter how much he tried to convince her, she had not even for a moment considered the proposal to learn their ancestral arts.
Aarthius had later given up, thinking that his daughter had no talent in combat. But after she turned seven, when she picked up the bow for the first time, Aarthius was left speechless after seeing her use the weapon.
Even without any official training, Amelia had an inborn talent for the bow, as she was able to use it with ease.
After that, he had stopped pestering her to learn anything else of his choice, as he had accepted her decision.
If she had decent talent with a bow, then Aarthius was satisfied with it.
But that had also led him to distance himself from her. It wasn’t a voluntary decision, but whenever he trained with his children, Amelia would never attend the sessions, as she had nothing to do with them.
That led to a decrease in the interactions between them.
“Amelia? I thought you were playing with your siblings.”
Amelia’s mother, Sersvil, approached from behind.
Hearing her name being called, Amelia looked up, only to feel a hand patting her head.
“I was reading.”
Her voice was so soft that Sersvil had to bend in order to hear her words.
“Dear, don’t you want to enjoy some quality time with your siblings?”
“No.”
Amelia’s reply was instant, with no hesitation in it.
Sersvil was left speechless for a second before she quickly composed herself.
“And why is that?”
“They are dumb.”
After a moment’s pause, Amelia spoke, her eyes never leaving Sersvil’s gaze.
“Only because they aren’t as good at things that you are interested in, does that make them dumb?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Mother, I don’t like brutes.”
“…”
Hearing that, Sersvil didn’t know what to say to her daughter. Though she was proud of Amelia’s high intelligence, that didn’t mean she could ignore her lonely behaviour.
Amelia never mingled with her siblings or anyone else in the family.
She always stayed in her room or in the library downstairs, reading some book or another.
“Amelia, listen to me. Only because someone isn’t a genius in mana theories and everything else like that doesn’t necessarily mean that they are dumb. And if you think like that, does it make your father a brute too?”
“Isn’t he a brute?”
Sersvil wanted to guilt-trip Amelia, but her instant answers left her unable to follow up with her daughter’s train of thought.
“Do you hate me, mother?”
Before Sersvil could speak, it was Amelia who questioned her.
