Chapter 143: Sasha
As Sersvil looked into her daughter’s eyes, they still had the same pure innocence to them.
Seeing her and hearing the question made Sersvil’s heart ache with the pain thinking about her daughter’s troubles.
As someone who never trained with her siblings, Amelia was always looked down upon by the other members of the family.
Though Aarthius didn’t treat her harshly, he didn’t love her like the other children either.
For a mother, hearing something like that was the worst possible test the gods could present her with.
“No, dear. I would n-never… do that.”
Sersvil’s voice cracked at the end as she hugged Amelia.
Amelia responded in kind.
“Don’t ever think about something like that, okay?”
“Okay.”
“Good girl.”
Sersvil patted her daughter’s head lovingly. She regretted not being the mother she had to be. A question like that should have never crossed a child’s mind, but it did.
And Sersvil hoped it wouldn’t happen again.
“My Lady, the Lord has called for you.”
A maid approached Sersvil, bowing before her as she relayed the message.
Ending the hug, Sersvil wiped the tears that were beginning to form at the corners of her eyes and looked at Amelia.
“You can go.”
Before she could say anything, Amelia spoke up, seemingly knowing the importance of the message.
Sersvil patted her head once again before leaving the place.
Amelia just kept staring at her mother’s back as she walked away to meet her father.
The reason Amelia had asked the question wasn’t to get an answer, but to make her mother stop pestering her about playing with her friends and family.
Amelia didn’t hate her siblings, but she didn’t like to mingle with them either.
She just wanted to explore the mysteries of the world on her own, without being disturbed at every turn.
To learn more about mana, the bodies of living beings inhabiting this planet, and also the theories of the space beyond it.
Amelia loved studying all of it.
That was why being asked to learn the combat arts of her ancestors was something she found troublesome.
But experiencing the constant nagging of her father, Amelia had decided to pick up a weapon and show her decent skills in it.
Surprisingly, it was a bow, which Amelia found to be the most suitable for her, as it didn’t involve fighting like a beast.
Amelia hated fighting at close range, as that meant making her body go through constant pain and suffering.
With her royal bloodline, she was easily able to heal from injuries, but that required her to constantly consume the blood of other living beings—an act that she detested.
She found it barbaric to drink the blood of races that shared intelligence on par with her own.
Eating meat from beasts was another thing, but consuming blood…
Amelia wanted none of that.
Still, to appease her father, she began to train with the bow, and with Amelia’s talent for the weapon, her father had stopped pestering her.
That gave her more time to focus on the activities that she personally enjoyed.
Still, there was a limit to what she could learn at her house, which always focused more on personal strength than theoretical knowledge.
That was why Amelia was always looking forward to being admitted to the Namda Academy, which was said to be the best institute in the entire world.
But the admissions were only open to individuals when they were eighteen years of age.
Amelia had asked her father to get her admitted early, but he had refused her request, leaving her to pass the time doing the same monotonous things every day.
Even though Amelia had managed to stop her father’s nagging, the constant sarcastic comments from the other members of House Dracoth, as well as the looks that her siblings gave her for her lack of strength, had begun to edge on Amelia’s patience.
There was a limit to how much she could bear.
Every day she kept having thoughts of abandoning her studies and focusing on combat, but her lack of interest in it prevented Amelia from doing anything of the sort.
She had also observed the treatment that her siblings received in comparison to her own, and that made her understand the value of having true, tangible power.
Her intelligence could only help her in combat up to a certain point, but after that, she knew it had its limits.
But as Amelia’s boredom and loneliness increased, one fortunate day it was mitigated by a girl who had arrived at the Dracoth palace along with her father to meet the head.
The girl named Sasha was the daughter of one of the noble vampires serving under the Dracoths.
So, as her father had brought his daughter along with him, Amelia got to know her, as Sasha too was similar to Amelia.
She wasn’t physically strong like vampires were supposed to be, but had an unusual interest in exploring the world.
Amelia found Sasha’s company to be a delight, and over time they had grown to become best friends.
It was only when Amelia was eighteen and was admitted to the academy that the two friends had to part.
Sasha too had decided to continue her world travel, with her new destination being the Veltran Empire.
Sasha found humans far more interesting than the people of her own race.
Though they were apart, there wasn’t a day that the two of them hadn’t talked to each other.
As Amelia’s life in the academy continued, Sasha had informed her that she was going to attend an auction in the Levaith Duchy.
That was the only day that the two of them didn’t talk to each other—the only day that both of them would never forget.
Sasha seemed to have the worst luck, as the day she attended the auction was the very day that some armed group of individuals raided the auction house, killing everyone within.
Though there was no harm to Sasha’s life, the same couldn’t be said for her mental state, as she was a moment away from being violated by a criminal who had nearly succeeded in raping her. But due to some unknown reason, the group had retreated from the auction house before the deed was done.
