Chapter 128: Wild
“I mean serving the remaining VIPs. If you are finished, you may go. And thanks for the drink.”
No. 762 just stared at Remzi for a moment, unable to process the reasoning behind his words.
Offering to sit with them, and withdrawing the offer immediately?
Like that made any sense.
But not wanting to stay here for a second longer, No. 762 bowed once before making his way out of the room.
Click.
As the door closed, Arnold turned to look at Remzi, who was taking a sip of wine from the glass.
“It’s not poisoned.”
After tasting the wine, Remzi placed the glass back in its place.
“Of course it’s not. And why the hell would it be poisoned? Oyy!”
Arnold had to raise his voice at the blatant attempt of being ignored.
“What are you being so paranoid about? That was just a normal attendant, and each of them is selected after a thorough background check. So just let go of your thoughts and enjoy the show.”
The sofa stretched as Arnold leaned back.
Knowing he was being excessively vigilant, Remzi didn’t refute Arnold’s statement.
Seeing that the bookworm was now quiet, Arnold just shook his head.
“Hold your breaths everyone, as the main lots of the auction will now be displayed.”
Silence.
No one uttered a single sentence as the pedestal glowed.
A vial could now be seen placed at the centre of the platform. The reddish-brown liquid shined under the lights.
Just by looking at the vial, everyone could feel the value of the contents within.
“This is a Tier 2 Potion. We have named it Instax, as it can heal any serious injury—excluding regeneration—for a Diamond ranker within ten seconds, and also recover up to forty percent of the mana reserves, though the amount may vary depending on the mana capacity of the individual.”
The crowd broke into a series of applauds as the potion truly lived up to its tier.
Though instant regeneration was beyond its capability, as such a thing required far more advanced alchemy knowledge.
But even being able to heal any other injury within ten seconds, and also recovering a significant amount of mana reserves, was a boon during a fight, as time was of the essence in such critical situations.
“The bid shall start at one million credits, and each subsequent bid must increase by at least a hundred thousand credits.”
The auctioneer intentionally took a long pause to let the guests understand the value of the item before them.
Though one million credits may sound expensive, it was on the cheaper side for a Tier 2 potion, as the potion was just freshly created and the guild had to first let their customers understand its credibility.
“1,100,000 Credits.”
“Do I hear—”
“1,200,000 Credits.”
The guests were getting impatient to buy the potion. Though the effectiveness of the potion was still debatable, that didn’t stop them from being the first ones to buy it.
The first buyer would surely get the trust of the guild and may even receive some unknown benefits.
At least that was the logic that everyone was following through.
“1,400,000 Credits.”
“Anyone bidding higher? Do I hear 1,500,000 credits?”
The auctioneer tried to make the guests more impulsive, but he soon realised there was no need for the theatrics.
“Two million credits.”
The crowd went silent at the sudden rise in the bid.
Though all of them were rich, casually increasing the bid by such a large margin required quite the confidence in one’s financial capacity.
As everyone turned their heads to look at the bidder, the voice had come from one of the VIP rooms that were situated above the general hall.
The VIP had kept his identity hidden, so no one could guess the bidder.
“Two million credits! Anyone else? Two million going once—”
“Five million credits.”
Silence.
Another VIP had stepped in.
All the other guests present in the hall had now gone completely silent, as the real titans had now decided to step in the war for being the first one to buy the potion.
“This is incredible. The bid just never seems to end. Is there anyone here wanting to smash the records?!”
The auctioneer’s voice echoed throughout the auction house, as for the first time since the auction had begun he had dropped his polite and formal tone—switching to something that looked a little more on the wild side.
And who wouldn’t be excited at such a massive increase?
“Ten million.”
Another silence.
Now the bids had begun to increase by directly five million credits—an amount that was far higher than the original bid.
“Fifteen million.”
Before the auctioneer could speak anything else, another feminine voice chimed in.
All heads turned to the corner before a new voice echoed across the hall.
“Thirty million credits.”
“Hahaha.”
Remzi smacked his thighs as he couldn’t control the laughter.
“How stupid can these people be? Why give a shit about being the first buyer if you could buy the same potion for a far lower price?”
Arnold just gave him a brief glance before shifting his focus to the auctioneer again.
“It’s not only about being the first, but also a considerable amount of their prestige is on the line, and losing this bid might mean losing their dominance and authority in the guild altogether.”
Though Arnold explained it in a logical way, even he found it amusing for the bids to reach a staggering number of thirty million credits.
“Any competitor against the gentleman in room 12?”
The auctioneer had to point out the room to make everyone understand who the bidder was.
In the chaos of the bids, the voice of the bidder always gets lost, so the auctioneer wanted their customer to enjoy the attention.
And surely the bidder in the room was happy at the gesture.
But even after his question, no one raised the bid.
Thirty million was too big an amount for many to spend on a single potion.
Most of the VIPs who wanted to be in the competition for a longer time clicked their tongues in disappointment.
“No one? Thirty million going once… going twice… and sold!”
Bang!
