Chapter 135: Sadists
“What is it?”
I asked John as we stood in the hallway, the walls enclosing us from both sides.
“See this.”
John turned his device to face me, as I read the text that was sent.
Huh?
“Maybe they have something to do here.”
John mumbled as I gave the class a final glance.
Wasn’t this academy supposed to be the best one in the world?
Haa…
As we had been the last ones to arrive, almost all the students had already left for the new class that we were asked to be present at.
“…”
“What?”
“The class?”
“Let me see. Hmm… okay! Follow me.”
John began to walk ahead of us, as Amelia too had decided to tag along.
The entire walk took nearly ten minutes as we arrived at the substitute room that was supposed to be our new classroom for—
I took out my own device to read the instructions sent by the academy.
Sigh.
It wasn’t for a day.
Our classes were going to be held here for the entire week.
The reason wasn’t declared, and neither could I guess it. No matter where you were, academies always had such brain-dead staff who took decisions with no real merit in them.
I mean… for an academy like Namda—couldn’t they have prepared or built a new classroom?
Not even for a moment did I believe that the academy didn’t have the capability to do so.
I couldn’t believe the scene before my eyes as my gaze scanned the entire room.
The size of the class was about half our previous one, and along with that came the shortage of benches to sit on.
What the hell was this poverty?!
“Damn! Is this one of those—learn to adapt things!”
John commented, his voice filled with disbelief.
As we were the last ones to arrive, the entire class had already been filled with students who were sitting tightly packed.
Though the benches were wide enough, with around enough space for four students to sit, everyone had somehow managed to upgrade the count to five.
On each bench I could see five students sitting extremely close to each other, with no space in between.
“John!”
One of the students sitting at the far end of the class shouted in a voice loud enough for everyone to hear.
As all attention turned on us, John looked at me apologetically.
“Kael—”
“Just go.”
John stared into my eyes for a second longer before nodding his head.
Tsk.
Everyone had secured seats for their friends, and now the entirety of the space at the back was filled, with nowhere for me to sit.
“Where are you—”
I stopped midway, only to find Amelia missing from her previous spot.
As I looked around, I could see her sitting at the left end of the front seats, along with her… friends?
I had to take my words back. I thought Amelia was a loner, but the picture before me changed my narrow understanding of the Dracoth Princess.
I could see several girls talking with her, and Amelia too was responding in kind.
Maybe she wasn’t much of a bookworm like I had previously assumed her to be.
Looking in her direction, I paused for a second—maybe hoping for her to invite me, but Amelia didn’t even glance in my direction… or more specifically, she didn’t notice my gaze on her.
Haa…
I wasn’t upset.
If I wanted to, I could easily make all the students in the back adjust and free the entire bench for myself.
But as someone who was abided by the rules and regulations of the academy, I sincerely didn’t support behaviour that could be called bullying in easier-to-understand terms.
Or that was what I thought, before my legs began to move.
Maybe bullying wasn’t so bad—at least once or twice in a while—
“Kael?”
My steps paused as a very familiar voice called out to me.
There was no need for me to search for the person, as she was just before me, sitting at the very front on the right end of the class along with her friends.
As I looked in her direction, Diana waved back at me.
Though her face had a bright smile, I couldn’t say the same about the others, as their expressions turned sour just looking at me.
Just as I was about to ignore Diana and find a seat for myself, the entire classroom went silent as I sensed a presence entering from behind.
“Student Kael, you may take your seat.”
Elsa’s voice left no room for debate.
I stood motionless at the same place for a while, my eyes scanning the classroom, looking for anywhere to sit.
“Kael—Here!”
Diana’s cheerful voice cut through the silence as I once again looked at her.
Their bench was the only one with the four of them sitting together.
Haa…
What type of coincidence was this?
“Student Kael?”
Elsa repeated my name, urging me to take a seat.
Not having any other choice, I headed towards Diana, taking a seat beside her.
Well… to be more precise, I was nearly beside her, as another person was sitting between the two of us.
Though I didn’t give her any attention and shifted my gaze to look at Elsa, who too was looking at me.
“You all will have to adjust for this week, as some immediate tasks required the academy to use your previous classroom. And you are not the only ones, as all the other classes from among the first years have been relocated too.”
Elsa clarified, as many students had a look of disappointment on their faces.
Though everyone was currently sitting with their friends, it had to be known that most of the students here were nobles who had never learnt the word adjustment in their lives.
For them, sitting in such a cramped space was a death sentence in itself.
As for the explanation given by Elsa—personally, not even for a second did I believe it.
The most obvious answer would be some sort of new activity being held by the academy, requiring us to adapt like this, or it could simply be these bastards enjoying the sufferings of poor students.
Sadists.
