Liam stepped further inside, blinking hard as he tried to make sense of it. He remembered this room differently. But maybe that was the memory of a child.

“Your father’s office…” she said.

She stepped closer and looked inside. It was the first time she was seeing the room properly lit, and her eyes widened with awe and confusion. “Last time… the light wasn’t on. I didn’t see any of this.”

Liam didn’t speak. He moved to the nearest desk, picking up one of the open journals. The handwriting inside was his father’s. Page after page, it was filled with experimental data—biological enhancements, neural rewiring, detailed genetic analyses.

“Your father was researching something,” Lilith murmured, coming up beside him. “Something way beyond normal medicine.”
