The man didn’t answer. He simply smiled.

The white wings folded in on themselves as Liam landed on the ground. The feathers shimmered faintly before disappearing completely, leaving behind only the faint trace of light. In his arms was Lilith. Her breathing was rough, but she was alive. She tilted her head up to look at him, her lips curling into a small, tired smile.

“About time,” she said quietly. “That white guy is insane.”

Behind him, a soft sound broke the silence—footsteps. Lana appeared, her face calm but her eyes sharp. The ground beneath her feet still smoked from her last burst of fire. She stopped beside Liam and glanced at Lilith, then back at the man in white.

“I’ll take care of her,” Lana said firmly, holding out her hands. “Go get rid of him.”

Liam looked at her for a second, then nodded without a word. He gently passed Lilith to Lana’s arms. Lilith didn’t argue. She was in no condition to fight, and besides, she trusted him. If anyone could handle this, it was Liam.

Lana crouched with Lilith as Liam stood up straight and began walking forward. The sound of his boots echoed across the cracked street. The man in white was still standing there, his expression calm, almost entertained.

Liam stopped a few feet away from him. “I heard you’ve been asking for me?”

The man studied him quietly for a few seconds. Then his lips curved slightly. He looked him up and down, from his boots to his face, as if he couldn’t quite believe what he was seeing.

“You’re Liam?”

“In the flesh,” Liam said simply.

The man shook his head slowly. “Back home, when they told us about you, I thought you were some veteran. A man in his thirties at least. Someone who’d seen war, who’d been through hell.”

His gaze sharpened slightly as he took another look.

“But this? You’re just a kid.”

Liam’s jaw tightened slightly, though he didn’t respond. His eyes stayed locked on the man, calm but sharp, ready to move the moment he needed to.

“All that talk. All the warnings. All that fear about you,” he said softly, his tone almost mocking. “And you’re not even twenty-three.”

Behind them, Dickson had finally managed to pull himself up with his good arm, still gritting his teeth. Vanessa stood beside him, pale but steady, watching the scene unfold. Seo Yeon and Kelly were silent, their focus fixed entirely on Liam. They had seen him fight before, but this time felt different. He wasn’t smiling, he wasn’t joking. He was quiet. Controlled.

Lana, holding Lilith steady, watched him too. There was something in his stance—something cold, determined.

The man in white adjusted his collar and tilted his head. “Tell me, Liam,” he said, voice calm. “Do you really think you can stand against me?”

Liam’s eyes didn’t waver. “I don’t think,” he replied simply. “I know.”
