Hilla was lost in thought along the way, her mind full of what Halle had said to her in the hospital.

From the grass in the courtyard seemed to come the faint chirping of insects. They sit around the small square table in the courtyard, looking at the star and eating the most common rural food.

“I bought the pork chops for Halle, but they all went to the dogs. What a thing.”

Hilla thought, “You have led dozens of dogs in the village to our home, there was no escape for the chops.”
