Chapter 278: The Drama in the Anderson’s Mansion
Halle looked at Claus coldly.
He was Horton’s father, Emily’s grandfather. Halle should show respect to him, as a well-educated junior. But at this moment, she couldn’t.
“Ms. Holt, aren’t you overreacting? If this child is not biologically related to Horton, then how do you explain the result of this paternity test?”
Claus gazed at the agreement on the table.
Halle knew it was a paternity test agreement but she didn’t dare to say.
The Holts were in dire straits. Halle was only a divorced woman without any power. She might come to the Hutts and ask for anything she wanted if the kid lived with her.
Claus thought that Halle did not make a move only because Horton had not lived up to her ambition. When Horton became the head of the family, Halle would use Emily as a bargaining chip to ask for more.
Claus’s face instantly turned grim. He would have to keep Halle away from Horton, and couldn’t allow the child to be a stumbling block for Horton and the Hutts.
Halle clenched her fists tightly until she crushed her nails into her palms and felt a burst of pain. Only then did she have a clear mind.
“I don’t know what the point of the agreement is.
“Whether Horton is Emily’s biological father makes no difference to me. I am not from a rich and eminent family, but I will never make use of my daughter to beg for your money.”
Halle coldly glanced at the folder on the table. She knew that it contained the DNA report of Horton and Emily.
Halle realized that Claus must have been clear about Emily’s identity since he had asked to see her.
Then there was no need to hide the truth anymore!
She had been living warily with Emily in the countryside these years, keeping Emily’s identity secret. And now she felt relaxed.
She was not as powerful as the Hutts and was much likely to lose if she filed a lawsuit.
But Emily was raised by her. She would not give up the custody of Emily.
“You want Horton to marry you? I am benevolent enough to keep the kid in my family. She will become Ms. Hutt.”
Claus said in a low voice, but his words were full of arrogance and disdain. Halle gave an ironic smile. “Not for Emily.”
Claus was stunned. He didn’t expect that Halle would yield neither to persuasion nor to coercion.
The more Halle wanted to go against the Hutts, the more determined Claus was to send her and Emily away.
“You think I can’t touch you just because you have the support of the Andersons?”
Halle and Hilla were sisters, and Hilla was Bruce’s wife. Claus had long found out about Halle.
Last Chris talked with Halle, he didn’t have it out with her because the Hutts could not fall out with the Andersons.
Therefore, Claus had to settle this matter with Halle privately.
But he did not expect Halle to be such a big challenge.
Halle’s hands tightly grasped the corner of her clothes. She stood straight and sneered as she looked at the man on the sofa.
“I believe that you can. If you want to cause me trouble, I am always ready.”
Halle didn’t try to escape because she knew that she couldn’t.
Halle left the clubhouse without a look at the document on the table.
Chris noticed that Claus was angry and said, “If you file a lawsuit, Mr. Horton will know everything.”
Horton received the fake DNA report. But if Claus went to law against Halle, Horton would finally know Emily’s identity.
There was a trace of ruthlessness on Claus’s face. He snorted angrily, “Horton is so disappointing. How could he get involved with a divorced woman? I shouldn’t have had high hopes for him.”
“It was an accident. No one expected Halle to have a kid with Mr. Horton. It was my fault.”
Chris’s words didn’t make Claus feel better. If Claus had known it earlier, he would have stopped the birth of Halle’s kid.
What was the use of a girl for the Hutts?
Claus thought Horton only had a short passion for Halle, but he did not expect that Horton would actually check the identity of Emily.
When Claus received the DNA test report, he was shocked.
“No wonder Horton has been fascinated by this woman all the time. The kid is Halle’s bait.”
“Sir, what do you mean?”
“I don’t care whether the child is Horton’s. We can’t keep that kid.”
“Miss Hutt? No way!” Claus thought with a scornful look.
He had seen many women these years, who dreamed of marrying Horton by saying that they had a baby with Horton.
“But the Andersons…” Chris didn’t know what to do for the moment.
Halle was living in the Anderson’s, and the family members would know everything that happened to Halle and Emily. If Claus hurt the kid, the Andersons could easily figure things out.
Claus didn’t want Horton to know Emily’s identity, and Emily would be a threat to the Hutts. The best solution was to send someone unrelated to the Hutts to deal with the kid.
“Be careful and don’t use our men!”
Chris replied, “Yes.”
Claus stopped frowning, and his voice was no longer as low and cold as before. “Miss Marley has been back for some days. Has Horton met her?”
“Mr. Horton has been busy in the hospital and hasn’t seen her yet…”
“Is he that busy? He’s just unwilling to see her.”
Chris went silent and said coldly, “If he were not my son, how could he become the youngest associate director of the hospital? He thought he could fly to the sky with his few feathers? What a joke!”
“Sir, Mr. Horton doesn’t dare to disobey you.”
“Do you think so? Did he ever listen to me?”
Claus knew his son too well. Horton was the most outstanding of his three sons, but he was of the lowest social status.
He had intended to make Horton head of the household. Therefore, he wanted to find Horton a wife with noble status.
It would not be. But Horton had not lived with Claus and was not under his control at all.
Claus got angry. He would not allow a divorced woman to ruin his son and family.
“Ask Miss Marley to come to our house for a meal. And tell Horton to come back tonight. If he doesn’t want to go back, then tie him up and bring him back.”
Chris had to make a phone call. He came back after a while and whispered to Claus, “I just called Miss Marley and she said she was busy!”
Riya was from the Marley family in Bright City and she’s the only granddaughter of Carl Marley. Riya had been a favorite of her family and had acted in an arbitrary and reckless manner since she was young. She didn’t show respect to anyone except the members of the Keys and the Andersons, who were on good terms with the Marleys!
Claus said, “Ask Horton to go out with Miss Marley tomorrow.”
With the help of the Marleys, the Hutts would not have to care about the Andersons!
…
Halle came out of the clubhouse. It was raining.
The weather seemed to change with her mood as if God were crying for Halle.
Halle smiled and called a taxi.
She did not feel it a pleasure to get wet in the rain. Although it was spring, a drizzle would still make people feel cold.
After telling the driver the address of the Anderson’s mansion, Halle turned to look out of the window.
It was a silent night. The drizzling rain fell on the neon signs in the city. The cars flashed past Halle one after one. Halle was lost in thought.
The phone in her bag rang. The driver had to remind her, “Miss, you have a call.” Halle came to herself and thanked the driver. It was Hilla. Halle picked it up at once. “Halle, it’s so late, why haven’t you come back yet? Is something wrong?”
Hilla said worriedly. Halle smiled faintly and said, “Camilla asked me to buy something with her. I didn’t find it was late. I’ll go back immediately.”
Hearing this, Hilla heaved a sigh of relief and asked gently, “Emily is already asleep. Do you need me to pick you up?”
Halle knew that Hilla would send the driver over, so she quickly said, “No. I’m in the car. I’ll be home soon.”
“Take care!”
“OK!”
Halle hung up the phone and looked out the window again. She seemed to see a familiar figure standing at the door of a pet store.
Halle thought that was Horton. But then she frowned and shook her head. She must be impacted by what happened today.
She guessed that Horton might have known something when Chris sent her the message. Now she found that the attitude of the Hutts was still the same, even worse than she thought.
She knew that the Hutts would insult her, but it felt bad to hear it with her own ears. When she thought of the fact that Claus wanted to get Emily’s custody, Halle became even more irritated.
She shouldn’t have got involved with Horton from the beginning. If she had not, the Hutts would not have pay attention to her and she would not worry about losing Emily now.
Since Claus knew Emily was Horton’s daughter, Horton would know it sooner or later.
At that time, she would definitely face a game, and she must win.
The scenery outside the window flashed by Halle’s eyes and blinded Halle. She stopped herself from thinking about the annoying things.
…
Just as Hilla hung up the phone, a servant rushed over.
“Mrs. Anderson, there is a Ms. Gilmore outside who says she wants to visit Mr. Bruce.”
The maid looked a little embarrassed. Even Margaret, who was playing games on the side, noticed it. Margaret immediately put down the mobile phone, which would surely cause her team to lose the game.
Margaret turned to look at the maid excitedly. “Is she beautiful? How old is she? What does she look like? Does she have anything to do with Bruce?”
The maid was even more embarrassed. How was she going to answer these questions? How could she know what was the relationship between Bruce and Ms. Gilmore?
The maid had no choice but to reply, “She looks pretty and seems to be at a similar age as Mrs. Anderson. But she has Mr. Bruce’s Centurion Card in her hand.”
The maid trailed off. She saw Margaret’s eyes wide, her face dark, and her cheeks bulging. It was obvious that she was about to get angry and fight someone.
Margaret thought, “Bruce has never been so generous to her. He gave a strange woman the card. How much money is there in the card?”
The maid was afraid that Margaret would be angry at her, so she turned to Hilla, who was always nice. “Mrs. Anderson, Ms. Gilmore is standing in the rain. Shall I invite her in?”
“No!”
Before Hilla could respond, Margaret had jumped up from the sofa. “Does she take our house as a shelter? We don’t even know her…”
“Let her in!”
Before Margaret could finish her sentence, Hilla gave the order. The maid opened the door.
“Hilla, are you crazy? This woman came here to steal your man. Why did you let her in?”
Margaret was innocent and pure, but she had read many cheesy novels about rich families. If a woman came to visit a rich family and always looked weak and miserable, she was most likely to be a big fake.
But Margaret didn’t expect that the dull Bruce would be a philanderer.
Men were no good!
“No matter what she’s here for, I have to see her since she has Bruce’s card.”
Hilla seemed serious. She was like the hostess of the family that Margaret had seen in the books about harem fighting. Margaret’s two nephews were still in the hospital. In addition to visiting the two babies, Orlenna would go out for beauty and mahjong as usual.
Sometimes, she would hang out and never come back for a night. After all, she now had two grandsons and had something to brag about.
Margaret glanced out of the window and felt that it was unreasonable to wait for Orlenna to deal with Miss Gilmore. Therefore, Hilla had the final say this time.
Margaret suddenly had confidence. How could a small potato defeat the hostess?
Bruce usually came back at this time. Ms. Gilmore must have chosen this time on purpose to wait for Bruce.
When Margaret thought of this, she suddenly felt that this woman was really scheming though she had not seen her yet.
Ms. Gilmore seemed even more guileful than all the women in the novels Margaret had read.
Very soon, a petite figure followed the maid and slowly walked in.
The maid carefully held an umbrella for Lori. But Ms. Gilmore’s coat had got wet outside. Her forehead was covered with fine water droplets, which reflected a bit of the soft light from the crystal lamp.
Ms. Gilmore or Lori held onto the corner of her clothes with both hands and stood at the door, refusing to take another step inside.
“She is such a scheming girl. She looks as if we were bullying her even before she entered. Hilla, we should throw her out now.”
Margaret moved closer to Hilla and whispered to her. What if Bruce came back later and couldn’t bear to let Lori go?
Their family had just been in peace, so how could they allow a woman who appeared out of nowhere to ruin the family?
Was there going to put on a melodramatic drama in the Anderson’s mansion?
Then Margaret would definitely stand on Hilla’s side and fight with Lori to the end.
“Hello!”
Lori whispered, timidly looking at the two extremely beautiful women in the room.
She knew Hilla! She had seen Hilla on TV. “She is Bruce’s wife and the one Bruce couldn’t wait to see when he woke up!” Lori thought.
At this time, their eyes met. Lori felt that the way Hilla looked at her was … very
gentle!
