Chapter 167: What a Reckless Young Man
Titus had been waiting in the hospital for a long time but Halle did not come. Titus was worried that Halle would go to another hospital because of what he had done to her.
If so, it would be even more difficult for him to find Halle.
Now he saw Hilla. Although he knew Hilla couldn’t make decisions for Halle, he found hope.
He could ask Hilla or Halle to forgive him so as to remarry Halle. He would show Halle his sincerity.
“You are Titus? Damn you! Your family treated Halle as a maid and ordered her about for five years. Do you take her as your wife?
“Now you want her back with her unborn baby. Dream on!”
Seeing that Hilla was hesitating, Margaret pulled Titus’s hand away from Hilla’s clothes. Then Hilla came to herself and immediately took two steps back to keep a distance from Titus.
She should not think about asking Halle to remarry. Halle had told her that she did not want to marry anyone.
Hilla didn’t want Halle to remarry Titus, but what if Halle married into another family just like Titus’s? With the baby holding her back, it would be even more difficult for Halle to come out of the new family.
Halle and the baby would definitely live a very, very happy life under the protection of Hilla and Bruce.
“You may go. I don’t care whether you want Halle back out of love or something else. I won’t allow her to remarry you.”
Hilla said coldly, pulling Margaret to the door of the hospital.
Hilla’s determined look showed that there was no room for negotiation.
Titus was stunned. Looking at Hilla’s back and listening to the people around gossiping about him, he looked ferocious rather than pathetic.
“Your sister and you are both greedy women. You favor the rich over the poor. Halle married me when my family was rich. Now I am down and out, so you’re going to kick me away, right?
“Without me, Halle is just a whore that no one wants. She hung out with another man behind my back and was abandoned after she’s pregnant. Halle and you are really good-for-nothings. It’s a disgrace for a man to marry you.
“No one wants a woman like Halle. She’s just a woman of easy virtue. Her child is a bastard.”
Hilla and Margaret, who just walked to the entrance of the hospital, stopped in
unison.
Hilla thought it was OK if she herself was criticized, but she could not bear it if Halle and Bruce were criticized.
And criticizing Hilla and Bruce, as Margaret supposed, was the same thing as criticizing the Andersons, which made Margaret angry.
“I want to beat him to death!” Margaret said.
“So what are you waiting for?” Hilla replied.
Hilla was determined to beat this jerk who called white black.
Before Hilla and Margaret could rush over, someone in white made his way through the crowd and kicked Titus’s hip, sending Titus 16 feet away.
Titus crashed into the pillar in the hall, lying on the ground, almost unable to breathe.
Margaret shouted, “Oh my God, I just saw Horton fly up.”
Hilla said, “This kick is really satisfying.”
“You not only scolded Hilla and the Andersons, but you also scolded Halle. Don’t you feel guilty? Scum like you does not deserve to marry Halle.”
Horton felt distressed at the thought that Halle had been married to such kind of person for five years.
Halle was gentle, kind, and sensible. She should not live with this scum.
“It’s you again…”
Titus raised his head and finally got a clear look at the person in front of him.
Horton was dressed in a big white coat and he looked less fierce with his silver-framed glasses. But a man wearing a smile like Horton could be more terrifying than those who showed fierce looks.
“One kick is not enough.
“I’ll go give him a few more kicks to vent my anger.”
When Margaret was about to rush forward, Hilla stopped her.
There were so many people here. Horton was wearing a white coat, so he must be recognized by some.
People would say Doctor Horton had hurt someone. It would be bad for Horton if the rumor spread.
Hilla was sorry to get the Andersons involved. If she even caused trouble to Horton, she and Halle would be more guilty.
It would be a bad deal to punish a scum at the cost of Horton’s career.
Hilla didn’t know whether it was because she had been with Bruce for a long time that she began to be more sensible.
“Forget it. His hip fracture may keep him in bed for at least twenty days or a month. Don’t stir up trouble. Let’s go.”
Hilla said to Margaret. Margaret was fine, but Horton was still a little angry. He would not let Titus go easily!
“Horton, just leave. You work here. If you are punished, Halle will definitely blame herself.”
Hilla reminded Horton. Only then did Horton restrain his anger. He unhurriedly tidied up his coat and muttered, “It’s a pity I didn’t kick him to death.”
Hilla thought, “Do you want to kill him and end up in jail?”
Seeing Horton going upstairs and Titus was taken to the emergency room by the medical staff, Hilla and Margaret returned to the car.
“Horton was so cool just now. He was flying six feet high up in the air!” Hilla: “You’re exaggerating. He kicked Titus’s hip not head.” Horton was not that tall, even if his hair was erected. “Horton is so handsome this time. He is a real man today.” “So you used to take him as a woman?”
Hilla looked shocked, but her words helped to relax the atmosphere so that Margaret almost forgot what had happened in the hospital.
“I thought he was like a robot. He used to smile at everyone every day, but his smile was fake. In other words, he seemed to be good to everyone but actually, he didn’t treat anyone well. But he was at least polite to my families. Therefore, I used to say that he was like a girl on an emotional roller coaster.”
Hilla didn’t expect Margaret would describe Horton in this way.
“But Horton has been doing quite well recently. When he gets angry, he won’t give people acupuncture which can make people unable to walk. He even cooks well. The chicken soup he made for Halle is really the best I have ever tasted.”
No one knew Horton could cook until he made the soup for Halle. Margaret smelt something fishy. After all, she was called Detective Anderson.
Margaret raised her eyebrows and said mysteriously to Hilla, “I found that Horton likes Halle.”
Hilla thought, “Even a fool can tell!”
…
When Hilla and Margaret reached Lakeshore Center, Halle was resting in her room.
Just as Hilla put down the car keys, Margaret said, “If Horton really likes Halle, why don’t we help him? He is a good guy except that he is a little girlish.”
Although Margaret did not like Horton, she knew that they were relatives. She should help Horton anyway.
“Halle is younger than Horton. They two are well- matched. Moreover, Horton is really nice to Halle. I think they will make a good couple.”
“No way! Forget it!”
Hilla shook her head and her words were like a bomb that destroyed Margaret’s wish when she was daydreaming about being a matchmaker.
“What do you mean? Why not? Don’t you think Horton is sincere?”
Margaret was ready to swear on her life that Horton was trustworthy. It was the first time that Margaret had been interested in something other than being an idle youth from a rich family. Yet Hilla killed her interest.
Hilla felt annoyed that she did not have a sound reason!
“It’s not about Horton. Even if he’s sincere, he can’t marry Halle because Halle doesn’t want to get married.”
Hilla said indifferently. She had been conflicted about whether Halle should get married.
Halle was pregnant, so she needed someone to take care of her. And when she gave birth to a baby, those who were curious about who was the child’s father would say something like what Titus said today.
They would consider Halle’s child as a bastard!
Hilla was afraid that Halle and her child would see more hateful gazes like Titus’s as the child was born.
Thanks to Titus, Hilla realized that it was better to not marry than to marry a scum.
Anyway, Halle was not what people thought of her. She was not a bad woman.
“Halle doesn’t want to get married? Why? Does she think Horton is not handsome or not strong enough to protect her and the baby?”
Margaret thought it must be his gloomy face and horrible smile that kept girls away.
And he seemed too weak to hold anything other than a scalpel.
This was why Horton was disliked!
A man should be strong. If he learned some martial arts, he would have a good figure and look more charming. The most important thing was that he could protect others.
Margaret suddenly realized that she was thinking too much.
“Are you sure that Halle simply doesn’t want to get married? If she doesn’t hate Horton, they are still likely to get married in the future. Horton still has the chance.
“If she hates Horton…” Then Horton would have to give up.
Margaret was taking pity on Horton. She guessed that Horton probably would not get married until he was at Bruce’s age.
Bruce was lucky to marry Hilla because his mother was a good judge of character.
But it might be difficult for Horton’s stepmother to find Horton a good wife.
Margaret thought she had the duty to help Horton!
“Don’t worry about these things. I just hope that Halle can deliver a healthy baby while keeping herself safe.”
As for Titus, he wouldn’t be able to get out of bed for the next few days anyway, so he wouldn’t disturb Halle’s life.
…
In the hospital, the director closed the folder in his hands.
He looked at the tall and slender man in front of him and shook his head. Then, he angrily slammed the folder on the table.
“Horton, my Dear Horton. Do you need me to teach you what medical ethics are?
“Do you know the word “endure”? Can’t you just endure? Why did you have to stand up for the girl and send that man a few feet away with a kick in the hall? He’s got fractured hip and neck, lumbar disc herniation, and arm contusion.
“I didn’t know you were always ready to help others.”
The director was so angry that he struck the table several times.
He was afraid that Horton would be the death of him before he could retire.
Though the director was furious, Horton seemed particularly calm. Horton did not refute the director’s words, but he replied, “It is everyone’s responsibility to weed out the wicked.”
The director thought, “What a reckless young man!”
“Do you mean that I should hold a commendation ceremony in the hospital and sing praises of your great deeds? Or do you want me to make a silk banner for you as an award?”
“You are good at kicking, right? Did you forget where and what you were when you kicked him? You are a doctor and you nearly kicked someone to death. Do you know that his family didn’t let me off for the whole night?”
“I don’t know. You can tell them my address and ask them to look for me.” The director was speechless.
“Tell me, did that man commit murder or arson?”
“No!”
“Is he a rapist or smuggler?”
“No!”
“Then is he a wanted criminal?”
“No!”
Horton did wish Titus were the wanted man. If so, Titus would be imprisoned and could only watch the stars through the small window for the rest of his life.
“Don’t tell me he stole your girlfriend?”
“That’s right!” Horton thought.
“So why did you kick him? You are a clever guy with three doctorates! Why didn’t you take off the white coat or wait for him to walk out of the hospital before you kicked him?
“Look what you did! You hurt the man in front of so many people in the hospital hall when all your behaviors were captured by the camera. What can I do when all the witnesses and material evidence are ready?”
“I didn’t expect it!”
Horton frowned. He was passing by the hall when he heard Titus say something unpleasant to Margaret. He just wanted to punish Titus.
“You are a professor in brain disease, but now I think you should go check your own brain.
“You piss me off. I have to reconsider who is the right person for the deputy director.”
The director had to be responsible for the hospital. He had planned to appoint Horton as deputy director. And Horton might even take over the hospital if the director retired in a few years.
But Horton was too hot-blooded.
“I don’t even know you are such a warm-hearted person. Why did you stretch your legs in the hospital hall? Does it show that you have long legs?”
Horton coughed and said, “I will remember what you said. Can I leave now?”
The director waved his hand in anger. “Just go. All your projects and patients for the past month will be turned over to someone else. Go back and clear your mind.”
The director would even like to personally cut Horton’s head open to see if there was only one word in his mind –“fool”!
