Chapter 302: Miss the Wedding and Lose Her
At the Anderson’s, several people were sitting in the living room. When Hilla and Margaret entered the room, they turned their eyes on them at once.
Margaret pulled Hilla’s sleeve nervously and whispered in her ear, “What happened? Why does Mr. Hutt come here?”
If there was only Horton, she would have rushed up to beat up that jerk.
However, considering Claus, she held back herself.
“Is Halle able to deal with this alone?”
Obviously, the Hutt family was not here for peaceful negotiation.
“She is not alone. The Andersons are at her side.”
Hilla believed that Orlenna, her mother-in-law wouldn’t allow Halle to get hurt.
As expected, Orlenna waved at them as soon as she saw Hilla and Halle.
“You’re back. Come and sit here.”
“Our family has not gotten together since Bruce came back from Africa. I just called Bruce to ask him to come back early. Halle and Simone are here. Mr. Hutt visits us today too. Let’s enjoy a family reunion dinner.”
Orlenna smiled kindly, delighted to see so many people gathering at the Anderson’s.
Claus’s mouth twitched stiffly and he wore a forced smile.
Horton’s gaze fell on Halle and then turned to the man beside her.
He noticed they stayed closely since they came in.
Horton told himself not to think too much but to find an opportunity to explain what had really happened with Halle.
Horton opened his mouth as if to speak but suddenly he felt the sofa beside him sinking and his thigh pinched very hard by someone.
It was so painful that he let out a cry.
Startled and furious, Horton rubbed his thigh and glared at Margaret.
“What are you doing?”
“Betrayer!”
Margaret gritted her teeth and glowered at Horton.
“Mr. Hutt, this is Halle, my daughter-in-law, and Simone Moran,”
Orlenna spoke to Claus.
Claus looked over Halle’s shoulder and at Simone.
How could he not know Simone, the second son of the Moran?
“I didn’t expect the Morans and the Andersons are related.”
Claus’s voice was sarcastic.
Orlenna replied smiley, “Not now. But maybe future.”
Orlenna’s voice was calm but powerful.
Horton’s face turned pale. He looked at Halle anxiously, but Halle looked away.
“I am sorry for making the unannounced visit today,” Simone said gently.
When he said, his eyes rest on Halle with affection.
Hilla ran her eyes from Halle, Simone, and Horton to Claus.
A smile touched her mouth suddenly. Hilla looked at Orlenna and asked, “Mom, I go to the kitchen to take a look at the food. We have so many guests at home. Need to sure the food is enough.”
“Yes, Mr. Hutt is a distinguished guest. You ask them to prepare a splendid dinner.” Hilla wanted to indicate the visit of Mr. Hutt was abrupt and blunt.
Before Claus responded, Orlenna added, “I have heard from Horton that he was going to get married. I have been occupied these two days and still don’t know which lady it is.”
Claus’s face went an ugly green.
Horton frowned and cut in, “You know her. Orlenna, don’t you know whom I like?”
Horton looked at Halle anxiously.
But Halle looked away again as if she did not notice at all.
“Bruce is back!”
Margaret looked out of the window happily. Bruce’s car was pulling into the yard.
Then Bruce got out of the car and stroke into the villa.
Hilla heard Margaret’s exclamation and hurried out of the kitchen.
She raced to the door and greeted Bruce at the entrance.
“What’s going on? Why is Horton here?” Hilla whispered as she took the jacket that Bruce pulled off.
Moreover, Claus was with him.
Although it was the first time Hilla met Claus, she already had a bad impression of him because of Halle’s description.
“We are a family. It’s natural to come over to bond.”
Hilla rolled her eyes.
She didn’t buy his words at all.
She didn’t say many words because Halle looked calm and had no excessive reaction.
“Then why is Simone here? What do you want to do?” Simone’s appearance tonight must have to do with Bruce.
Bruce had known that Horton would come and let Halle bring Horton home. Ex-boyfriend and blind date. What if they had fights?
“I introduce Simone to Halle but it is she herself who decides to bring him home.”
Hilla was speechless.
Bruce was right.
Simone sent Halle home but without Halle’s invitation, he wouldn’t get into the house.
Did Halle do it deliberately?
She knew Halle. Halle was always a conservative and peaceful person and never stirred up trouble. How could she take Simone home when she knew Horton was here too?
Hilla cast a glance at Horton, whose eyes were full of anger. It seemed he would stand up to knock Simone down at any time.
As expected, when Bruce walked over, Horton grabbed him by his arm, “We need to talk!”
“Horton!” Claus warned harshly.
He wouldn’t come here if Bruce and Orlenna didn’t invite him.
And he admitted he brought Horton because he wanted Halle to understand that Horton was the son of the Hutt.
She could never take away his son.
Horton broke free from Claus’s grasp and his gaze fixed on Bruce.
“I know you arranged everything today. I want to talk to you.”
“Do you want to talk with me here?”
Horton was so mad at the thought of Bruce arranging a blind date for Halle.
He swore he would not see Bruce as his good friend anymore.
Bruce raised his eyebrow and sneered.
He made a quick greeting to Simone and then pushed Horton in a wheelchair out the
door.
A private talk? How could he be afraid?
How could Horton plan to be his brother- in-law, a part of his family, without telling him? He must teach Horton a lesson and find opportunities to break them up.
…
Worried, Hilla caught up with Bruce and spoke to him, “I’ll be with you.”
Bruce leaned close to Hilla’s ear and whispered, “Don’t worry. He can’t win me when he is well. Not to mention he couldn’t stand up now.”
Hilla blushed slightly when Bruce’s breath blew into her ears.
She was not worried that Bruce would get hurt, but that Horton would get beaten up.
When Hilla raised her head, she saw Bruce and Horton had already walked out. Hilla turned her head and looked at Halle with concern.
Orlenna was talking to Claus. Simone, sitting beside them, engaged himself in the conversation somehow. It looked the three of them had a pleasant talk.
Margaret sneaked up to Hilla and said, “Won’t Bruce beat Horton to death?”
Bruce would get into trouble if he did that. Horton was not even worth it.
Hilla shook her head. “They won’t.”
Margaret snorted coldly. In her life, she hated betrayers the most.
Even though they grew up together, she would not forgive him for leaving Halle in the hospital.
Sisterhood was more important for her.
“Your phone is ringing.”
Hilla reminded.
Margaret glanced at the number on the screen and an unnatural expression showed on her face. “I go upstairs to take a call,” she said and ran away.
Hilla recognized the number immediately as she saw it. It was Julian.
She gave a weak chuckle and turn back to the living room.
In the living room, Halle sat on the sofa restlessly.
Hilla stepped forward and said, “Halle, let’s go to the kitchen together.”
Halle nodded absent-mindedly and followed Hilla into the kitchen.
“What exactly happened today?”
“Bruce asked you to see Simone, right?”
Before Halle responded, Hilla already knew the answer. She knew both Bruce and Halle. Halle would not let the situation go so far.
It must be Bruce who arranged the whole thing today.
“Did he force you to date Simone?”
“No, I asked Bruce to help me.”
Hilla stood surprised.
How could Halle ask Bruce to do that?
Hilla looked at Halle suspiciously. Halle pursed her lips uneasily. “I wanted to see Horton, so I asked Bruce to help me.”
Halle looked down at her toes and replied in a low voice, like a child who had done something wrong, standing there and waiting for punishments.
“So … he came up with this?”
He let Halle go on a blind date, and then invited Claus over here.
If Claus knew Halle went on a blind date, he would definitely take Horton with him to let his son see how heartless that woman was.
A day past and she was ready for a new relationship.
Maybe on the way to the Anderson’, he started to look forward to watching the scene.
“Yes. And it works.”
Halle wanted to laugh when she thought about the method.
It was not a good choice but indeed worked.
When Claus and Horton knew Halle went on a blind date, they would definitely come over.
“Halle, you want to see Horton because…”
Hilla looked at Halle. She wanted to know the real reason why Halle wanted to see Horton. She wanted to break up with Horton, or she wanted to ask the reason why he didn’t show up that day or to revenge on him for he deceived her.
She knew Halle was a decisive and rational person when it came to the relationship and didn’t expect Halle would go on a blind date in order to see Horton.
“I want to see him and have a talk with him.”
However, she didn’t know what to say when they met at all.
Halle found herself ridiculous. Since the day Horton did not appear in the hospital, the only thing she wanted was to see him.
She knew in her mind she should turn her back on Horton since he deserted her.
He didn’t show up on such an important day, which was telling her to give up all fantasies.
But she was unwilling to accept it.
She only wanted to see him once time and didn’t think about what she should say.
“Then you go. I will take care of here.”
Hilla said in a low voice, picking up the vegetables on the side.
There was a side door in the kitchen that could lead to the courtyard.
Hilla knew Claus would not stop them from seeing each other now. That was what he wanted. He hoped Halle and Horton met, had a bitter quarrel, and then broke up.
In the back garden of the Anderson’s.
It was warm. Small rose buds could already be seen on the leafy branches. Some were even blooming.
In the garden, there were two young men, one sitting in the wheelchair and the other standing next to him.
In contrast to Bruce’s calmness, Horton wore a serious expression, his eyes full of anger.
“Why do you arrange for Halle to meet with Simone? You know what I’m going through. Why do you help my father?”
Although he was locked in the Hutt’s by his father, unable to send messages outside, he was sure Horton was clear about his situation.
Bruce had many ways to help him out as long as he wanted to.
However, Bruce, who grew up with him as his cousin, did not help him but turned his back to him when he was down.
How could Bruce arrange a blind date for Halle when he knew clearly his cousin loved that girl?
“Oh, I thought you didn’t like her anymore,” Bruce replied casually.
This explanation made Horton speechless.
Bruce was the kind of person who felt less guilty when he told lies!
“Of course, I like her.”
Horton gnashed his teeth in anger. He finally had an opportunity to get of the Hutt’s and thought he could take advantage of it to talk with Halle.
When he saw Halle and Simone walking through the door together, he felt as if he was struck by lightning.
Only two days, he was abandoned by the entire world.
He missed his wedding and lost Halle.
“Okay!”
Bruce uttered a single word leisurely, which pissed Horton off.
“You forced Halle to see Simone, right?”
“Simone has only met Halle once. He doesn’t like her and doesn’t know her at all.” “Why do you think Simone doesn’t like Halle?” Bruce asked pointedly. Horton froze, unable to say anything.
Bruce’s eyes were cold and his voice was calm. “They have time to know each other and then fall in love.”
“No way! Halle won’t like Simone. You messed with this.”
“Bruce, you know I like Halle. What do you want to do all of this?”
“Nothing. I just don’t want you to be my brother-in-law!”
Horton cursed, “A bastard.”
