Chapter 31: Mr. Anderson Is So Jealous

Hilla was drenched in the rain. The wound on her back began to ache at midnight. Sweat dripped from her forehead and her face turned pale as if she had suffered massive blood loss.

“Bruce, it hurts!”

She carefully touched Bruce’s hand and held it tightly in the dark, her voice full of grievance.

As she finished speaking, the light from the crystal lamp shone on her face. Feeling uncomfortable with the sudden light, she narrowed her eyes and pressed her face against the back of Bruce’s hand.

In a hoarse voice, Hilla asked, “Bruce, am I dying?”

Ever since the Holt family went broke, sometimes she felt that she might better be dead than to live like this. However, at the same time, she didn’t want to kill herself.

She was only twenty years old, the best age to do anything she wanted to do! In no way would she kill herself!

But in front of Bruce, who understood all her grievances, she couldn’t help act a little pouty.

The wound that had gotten wet had started to fester.

His eyes filled with anger, he pursed his lips and asked, “You got drenched in the rain?”

Otherwise, no one would risk taking a bath knowing that there was a wound on his back. Moreover, clean water would not cause infection.

Lying on the bed, Hilla blushed and buried her head in the pillow. She subconsciously grasped the corner of his clothes and snorted, “Kind of.”

“Bruce!”

“Take them. Horton will come tomorrow.”

Hilla took the medicine obediently. Then, she returned to bed.

She kept muttering even though she was dizzy because of the fever, “Bruce, thank you. You’re a good guy.”

Was he good? Everyone was scared of him. This was the first time that he was praised as a good man.

“Have a good rest. You will get better tomorrow.”

Bruce frowned as his gaze swept across her back, but he just carefully tucked her in.

The girl in the covers made a slight adjustment and responded submissively, “OK!”

Quiet in the bedroom, the orange light was giving a warm atmosphere. With his head tilted to look at Hilla that curled up beside him, Bruce gradually became affectionate.

She was still tightly holding his hand in her arms, her small face pressing against it.

Through the thin fabric, he could feel her warmth.

After taking the medicine, the fever quickly subsided. But she habitually leaned toward the warm place beside her.

Bruce turned around and grabbed her shoulder with his other arm. Then he pulled her into his arms gently, deliberately avoiding the wounds on her back.

He used to think that keeping single gave him more time and space for thinking, but

now, he felt that having someone beside him seemed good as well.

The moment Bruce closed his eyes, he smiled unconsciously.

The next morning, Hilla was awakened by a gentle kiss.

She tilted her head to the other side and then buried herself in the pillow. A muffled voice came up, “Bruce, stay away from me.”

Bruce froze. He was a little embarrassed that he failed to keep the poker face but pursed his lips.

Horton couldn’t help laughing.

Receiving Bruce’s warning, Horton quickly said innocently, “I wasn’t eavesdropping. She’s having a sex dream and you can’t blame me for that.”

Hilla suddenly opened her eyes and saw a small fluffy gray ball staring at her with a pair of charming round eyes.

It was one of the two dogs she had brought back last night.

The one who had kissed her in her dream was … this dog!

“Are you awake? What was Bruce like in your dream? Was he an evil seducer or something?”

Horton held back his laughter as he glanced at Bruce and said, “It’s really interesting. Sleeping in the same bed with you, yet Hilla was having a sex dream. Is there anything wrong with you?”

That was what a mother did for her son, right?

Hilla now deeply understood that how hard Orlenna had tried to promote her feelings for Bruce.

She had always felt that sons and mothers were of the same mind, and wives were outsiders. And now, she believed this more than ever.

If it wasn’t for the fact that she had stopped him with her hands, her thigh would have been pinched off just now. She didn’t even need to take a look. It must have been bruised!

A man who didn’t treat her wife well didn’t deserve the thoughtfulness of his mother.
