Chapter 298: Troll face
[System: You’ve crossed the border of the 86th floor and now stand in an uncharted area roaming with monsters
Clear condition: You now stand at the walls guarding the Demonic empire, slaughter anyone near the border of the fortress
Unique scenario: If you are spotted an enemy will sound the alarm thus sending backup to forbid you from advancing]
“Soldiers’ attention!!! The King has alerted us of the presence of the Hero. We must remain focused at all– What was that?”
The guard captain’s focus was shifted at the slightest glimmer of heavenly aura and commanded his fleet to move. But the moment they reached the edge they spotted none other than a demonic cat and the screams of their comrades. They look back at their rear only to spot the corpse of their fallen kin and a second later their heads fall flat to the ground with a clean swing
[So you’re telling me you lost all access to the Golem… and your body got revised? Well that explains the shining armor]
[Oh come on Sage, why are you so negative? Your avatar looks incredibly dashing. He can make anyone swoon]
“Yeah, including myself. The fucking armor has high defense but god damn does it emits a heavenly aura. It’s basically a beacon to tell the demons hey I’m over here so why don’t you come and kill me?”
[Can’t you take it off?]
“Great benefactor if I could we wouldn’t be here talking about this in the first place. I tried everything but I can’t do jack shit, I’m stuck at the normal ending route. This final quarter of the trial is set where the Hero confronts the Demon King,”
[So your skills… are they sealed? It doesn’t look like it when you can borrow the skills of your familiars]
“You always have a knack for guessing, Sage. Well, it doesn’t change anything even if I have my skills. This ending would result in two deaths,”
[Two deaths?]
[Two deaths?]
“Just as I said, the normal route, the newly awakened Demon King, and the Hero wielding the holy sword Crucible perish. But due to the Hero having plot armor he was resurrected by the saintess and declared victory over the Demon King. Upon the death of their King, the demons had no other choice but to return to hell or face the extinction of their race,”
[So in a nutshell it’s a bullshit ending?]
“Yeah, after the hero dies and peace is restored the humans become the top of the food chain. They discriminated against the other races and treated them like nothing more than slaves who’d do their damn bidding. The world revolved around them and as their technology grew it slowly killed the world and years later the world died,”
[I thought that the ending was the liberation of all the races upon the death of the tyrannical ruler?]
“I thought so too…” Morris then burns all the body with Ignite which turns to the advent of flames upon the mixture of heavenly aura
’There’s only one ending for these and that’s the true ending, these sub endings are just possibilities that didn’t occur. They’re not fake and how the players interact with the world would mold the ending to the choices they picked. When I explained the ending to the great benefactor I meant it was the end of this war and not entirely the world. In a way the ending doesn’t usually require the world to cease, well except for the true ending… where we’ll experience the calamity that would bring about the final hour of the world,’
[Something tells me you have a lot on your mind. I’ll refrain from asking… but you should move, I can hear some faint steps]
“Don’t worry it’s probably Sun and Moon. I’ve sent those two after I burned the evidence. They should probably be calling me right now!” Morris felt a sudden sting in his brain guiding him to his familiar’s position and activated void walk in response
“Owner we’ve finished killing the rest assailants should we move onwards before they sound the alarms-”
Christoper retrieved his familiars upon sensing a horrific aura once they killed the required number of guards. He takes a step back as the ground he once stood on was crushed by a being who leaped from such a far-off distance. It quickly King’s forth where it swings a heavy punch only for it to be blocked by the holy sword Crucible. Christoper took advantage of the sword’s divinity and pushed his foe back enough for him to halt its advancement
“Burning the corpse was a great way to cover your tracks. But did ya think you could get away with using that power? You damned chicken-winged follower!!! Prepare to die by the personal bloodhound of the King!”
The night illuminated its shape and he came face to face with a general whose might reached the heavens above. One of the four heavenly generals appeared with its face taking the form of Kyo Min-soo, the one who wields its vessel. Upon stating his fury at the presence of the hero the two rush forth as the next instance requires their wills. The legendary holy sword Crucible was stopped by the hands of the general signifying his unquestionable strength
[Fuck! Did he block that? It’s gonna take a while isn’t it-]
“Who decided that?” Christoper channeled all his mana and chi to increase his speed to be nearly impossible for anyone to react
“What the?” The heavenly general Argoth died by a single tear that struck all seven of its hearts marking the end of the knight of war
’The legendary divine sword Crucible is such an OP weapon that the hero in the story barely even sweats. If this were the normal route Hugo could easily kill me once this thing strikes my chest just as I did with Argoth. I know you guys are already bummed this whole arc is taking so long that’s why I’m speed-grinding my level to go straight to the final boss,’
[That enhancement was barely a second giving you no time to make a proper attack and yet… you killed him? So you’re telling me if this was the normal route you would’ve been easily killed by this thing? Just how bad does this world hate you to make such an insta-kill weapon for the final boss it’s too scripted! Grrrrrh!!!]
’Well he’s not wrong, this is an average case of terrible writing from the likes of my past self with no care for power balance. It’s a great thing that I found this sword before Hugo or else things would’ve been a lot worse in my case. But I’m worried that this thing isn’t enough, Uberious knew and yet he wasn’t frightened. Does he have a counter?’
(Master, let’s move on before things get more troublesome. You already spent most of your energy as well. The chances of you winning an encounter have drastically fallen)
“I know my loyal golem. This master of yours isn’t an idiot. Still, I appreciate your concerns- Shit! Another warp! Where is it going to send me this time?” Morris had no control over his situation as he was swept by the teleportation and was transferred to a random jail cell
(This place… isn’t this where you holed up all your foes to be interrogated? I was sealed but I was able to monitor you)
“It seems you’re right on the mark. But why here of all places? Oh, I remember now! The normal route had this one scene,”
Nearing the end of the third arc of his Novel he greatly remembers this particular place where Hugo found the held captives. The allied forces who refused to assist in their question were sent to dozens of mind-breaking torture. But upon a closer look, he had never seen any Knights but a figure with the body of a man and the face of a troll
“Troll face?”
He utters as the bruised and dismembered meme tilts its head where his voice traveled and says. “This voice… could it be? The alters? Have you finally found the messiah? The original who’ll lead the charge for victory?”
“Well I wouldn’t say I’m a messiah-”
“It’s you!” Troll face shouted in response to his reply
“That laid-back tone, casual manner of speaking, and disregard for the situation to make a follow-up joke… it’s you!” Troll face teared upon learning his identity and yet he could only feel relieved knowing his odds of fighting were none
[Morris what the fuck is this monstrosity? Is this thing a part of your world? Well no wonder you’re such a devil]
[Poor little troll thing, his body’s mutilated. All his limbs are urgh. This is so graphic, I can’t even…]
[System: The deity known as ’The One Who Sees Catastrophes’ had momentarily left the private broadcasting]
[As always she has a weak stomach. Now where were we? Oh right you met the hideous Troll thing]
[System: Your contracted deity ’The Forgotten Sage’ began munching on some popped corn and comments peak cinema]
“What exactly are you?”
Morris unsheathes his blade cutting the chain that held Troll face afloat catching him on time as he’s rid of suffering. He then continues to pluck the metal thorns protruding from his flesh before casting healing mixed with his divinity. The combination brought forth heavens embraced which not only healed but recovered the missing limbs of his target
“I thought this was impossible… knowing all well you’re currently the Demon King. How exactly are you wielding its opposite?”
“Wow, is this how you greet your savior? Bombarding him with loads of questions? Can I ask for your name?”
“Oh golly where are my manners? You already can tell but I’m a Troll face. I am a Memeronide, a species of meme that lives in your head rent-free,”
“Is that even possible?”
“We only exist due to your love for memes. You can also call us by our other name. Materionites which means a piece of ingredient to create your overall personality. So in a nutshell Materionites act as you’re tiny bits of self safely stored inside your cranium,”
“But I never heard of a word Materionite,” He scratches his chin but to no avail did that word jog his memory
“Oh, that’s because we made it up,”
[Well that was useless, shall we go?]
“Anyway I’d best be on my way then… I’ll have to knock some sense to Uberious and all of that. Nice talking to you though,”
He felt his movement impaired as Troll face yanked his feet and said. “Take me with you! Please I may not look the part but I can fight. Your evil alter has loads of minions. You need all the help that you can get right?”
“I knew that already. Why do you think I’m killing them instead of charging head-first into battle? Or do you have any other ideas?”
“Free the rest of us! All of the memes… they’re locked in these cells. This head of yours is our home. We want it back!!!” Troll face’s words reach him and he offers his hand and willingly accepts as he rises from the ground
“Where are the other memes at?”
