Chapter 175: I’ll Fight The Goddess For You!
Luna didn’t notice the thoughtful expression on Luca’s face at all.
She was too busy patting him down, her hands moving urgently across his chest, his sides, his pockets.
“Where is it? Where could the gun be?”
She mumbled to herself, completely focused on her search.
“Oh! I totally forgot—it must be in that bag grandmother gave you!”
Her eyes lit up with excitement.
“I’ll go get it right now!”
She started to rise, already turning toward where the bag sat in the corner, moving with the eager confidence of a child on Christmas morning racing toward presents.
But before she could take a single step, Luca’s arm wrapped around her waist and pulled her back down onto his lap.
“Hold on there, you little elvish assassin. You’re not going anywhere.”
Luna looked back at him in surprise, her brow furrowing.
“But why, Luca? This is the perfect time! My father is probably sleeping right now—if I sneak in while he’s unconscious, I could shoot him and be done with it.”
“It would be so much easier than trying during the day!”
Luca stared at her in awe, then shook his head slowly.
“Luna, listen to me. There’s no need for you to go kill your father.”
Luna blinked, genuinely confused.
“What? Why not? It makes perfect sense! Kill him and all our problems are solved! Why can’t we just end this already?”
Luca leaned back in the chair, pulling her more comfortably against his chest.
His expression was patient, understanding—the look of someone about to explain something important to a eager but inexperienced student.
“First of all.” He began. “Killing your father would only create more problems, not solve them.”
Luna tilted her head, genuinely puzzled.
“If you or anyone else made a move against Julius, it would immediately start a war between the male elves and the female elves. They’ve just lost their leader—they wouldn’t let that go unanswered.”
“They’d fight back.”
Luna’s expression grew more serious.
“And a war means casualties. Injuries. Deaths. Even with your new guns and better bows, people would get hurt. Some might die.”
He looked at her steadily.
“That’s not something I want. Not now, not ever.”
Luna opened her mouth to protest, but Luca continued.
“And before you ask why I can’t just join that war and fight alongside the females, well I wouldn’t be able to help.”
“This because I’m bound by the rules set by the Gods and since you’re the one who made the first move, I’d have to sit back and watch even if your side was losing.”
Luna’s determined expression faltered.
“But even if you could win the war.” Luca added, his voice dropping. “I still wouldn’t allow it.”
Luna looked up at him, curiosity replacing her earlier fervor.
“Why?”
“Think about it, Luna.” Luca patiently explained.
“Your Auntie Nyx has hated Julius for decades. Decades. She’s had countless opportunities to kill him—a knife in the dark, poison in his drink, an ’accidental’ fall from a high branch. And she’s never done it.”
“Why do you think so?”
Luna’s eyes narrowed slightly.
“That’s because Julius has something over this village.” Luca continued his lesson.
“Something dangerous. If he dies, there might be consequences—something triggered by his death that could harm everyone. It could be worse than any war with the males.”
Luna’s face went pale as the realization hit her.
“I see…” She looked down at her hands, shame creeping into her expression.
“That’s why Auntie Nyx never did anything. She knew. She understood the risk.”
She shook her head slowly.
“And I was about to rush in and do something that could have endangered my entire village.”
She sighed heavily.
“I really need to learn more. Think things through before acting. Auntie Nyx is so much smarter than me.”
Luca patted her head gently, his touch warm and reassuring.
“Hey. Your Aunt has lived a lot longer than you. She’s had decades to sharpen her mind, to learn patience, to understand consequences.”
He tilted her chin up to meet his eyes.
“One day, you’ll get to that level too. You’re already smart—you just need experience. For now, don’t be hasty. Don’t rush to judgment. Think before you act.”
Luna looked at him with an expression of deep gratitude, his words settling into her heart like seeds planted in fertile soil.
She nodded slowly, a calm determination settling over her features.
But Luca wasn’t done.
He pulled her closer, their faces suddenly very near. Luna felt warmth bloom in her chest at the proximity.
“Forgetting all that for a moment.”
He said softly, his eyes searching hers.
“Were you really going to go kill your father? Just like that?” He searched her gaze. “You didn’t look like you had any hesitation at all.”
Luna’s expression shifted instantly. The calm gave way to something fierce, proud, absolutely certain.
“Of course, Luca.”
Her voice was steady, unwavering.
“Do you really think I’d let someone like that run free after everything he’s done?”
She counted on her fingers, her voice growing harder with each point.
“The way he’s treated me and Lulu for years. The way he’s controlled the entire village. And most of all—” Her eyes blazed. “—the way he’s tormented my own mother for so long. Made her suffer in silence while he played the perfect gentleman.”
She met his gaze without flinching.
“Do you really think I’m going to let him off the hook? Never. Not in a million years.”
Luca’s voice was gentle. “But Luna…he’s your father.”
Luna shook her head vehemently, her expression twisting with disgust at the word.
“I don’t care if he’s my father. I don’t care that he’s the one who gave me life.” Her voice dripped with contempt. “In my eyes, he’s my enemy. Nothing more.”
Her expression softened slightly as she looked at him, her eyes filling with something warmer.
“Especially after what he did today.”
She reached up, her hand hovering near his chest where the gun had been pointed.
“He tried to kill you, Luca. He pointed that weapon at you and would have pulled the trigger if he’d had the courage.”
Her voice dropped, becoming fierce and protective.
“Anyone who tries to lay a hand on you is my enemy. And I will make sure they don’t see another sunrise.”
The line was so fierce, so serious, and yet she looked so adorable saying it that Luca couldn’t help but let out a chuckle.
That immediately offended her.
“Luca!” She protested.
She grabbed his cheek and pulled it slightly, straddling him more firmly as she leaned closer in indignation.
“I’m not joking! I’m being serious right now.”
Her eyes were full of stubborn fire.
“If someone does something to you, I really will make sure they pay with their life.”
Luca, still amused, looked at her with a teasing expression.
“Oh? And what if it’s not your father? What if it’s someone more powerful?”
She frowned. “What do you mean?”
“What if it’s the emperor?” Luca asked. “The emperor of the human race himself. What then?”
He raised a brow.
“He has armies. Power. An entire continent under him. What exactly are you going to do to take revenge against someone like that?”
Luna actually faltered for a moment.
She looked caught off guard, as if she hadn’t expected the question to go that far.
But only for a second.
Because then her expression hardened again.
She pushed he breasts even more firmly against him and looked at him with bright determination.
“I don’t care who it is.” She fiercely proclaimed. “Whether it’s the emperor, my father, or even the Goddess who sent you here herself—if anyone does something to you, I will find a way to take them down.”
Her voice, though not loud, carried conviction.
“There is no way in hell I will let someone who harms you live.”
She looked like a tiny, furious valkyrie making a vow before battle.
And seeing that devotion in her, seeing how threatning and sincere she was, Luca’s eyes turned tender.
Without fully thinking about it, he reached up and gently caressed her cheek.
That instantly made her breath catch.
He leaned in just a little closer and asked softly,
“Do you really love me that much, Luna?”
The question hit her like lightning.
He did not stop there.
“Do you really like me so much that you’re willing to kill even a Goddess for my sake?”
His tone was low, tender, serious.
“Do I really hold that deep a place in your heart?”
Luna’s entire face flushed a deep pink.
Her heart began racing so wildly she was sure he could feel it through her chest.
She was embarrassed—terribly embarrassed.
But when she looked into his eyes, she saw that he genuinely wanted an answer.
So she gathered up all her courage.
She looked shy.
She looked flustered.
But there was also determination in her eyes.
And in that small, quiet moment, she answered him honestly.
“I really do.”
Her voice trembled a little, but she kept going.
“I really do love you. Very, very much.”
Her eyes held his, filled with adoration, with devotion, with the pure, unfiltered emotion of someone who had given their heart completely.
“For you, Luca…”
She said from the bottom of her heart.
“…I’m willing to do anything.”
