Chapter 51: Just one touch
Everyone held their breath as Hill pulled the calendar from the envelope. Immediately, even the cover of the calendar had a different vibe compared to the other calendar. It was darker, more…seductive compared to the other calendar.
The front cover was a picture of Kellen with his arm around Rhys’ neck, his eyes glowing from the back as Rhys had his hands around Kellen’s arm. He had his top open, his abs on full display and a little smirk on his face, his own eyes glowing yellow.
It was such a possessive hold that Hill even made a comment on it.
“Holy shit.” She murmured and Kellen swallowed. He glanced up at Pamela and her smug expression.
“Are…all of them like this?” He asked and Pamela raised her gaze from the calendar photo and smiled at him.
“Well, maybe?” She suggested and Kellen turned his gaze back to the photo. It was a good photo, and the writing on top of the picture did nothing to hide the impact of it. However, Kellen felt something well up inside of him that he couldn’t quite put a finger on. At least, not right away.
However, as they slowly flipped through the photos, each of them showing off Rhys or Kellen, hell, even both of them when it came to the scene where Kellen was in Rhys’ lap on the chair, Kellen was finally able to put a name to what he was feeling.
Jealousy. He was feeling jealous. He was upset that others were going to be able to see Rhys like this. All pretty, handsome, and chiseled. He had to let out a few calming deep breaths of his own as anger made his blood boil. It was insane. He felt a little bad for making fun of Rhys when he probably was only feeling a third of the compulsion that the other man often felt.
However, Hill could tell that Kellen was getting uncomfortable, and so could Casper.
“Are you okay, Kellen?” Casper asked, sounding genuine and Kellen let out a harsh breath.
“I think so? I just, I’ve never felt possessive over him like this.” Kellen admitted and Hill let out a soft, pleased laugh.
“He’ll be delighted to hear that.” She told him. Kellen looked over at her, the calendar now at its final month and Kellen stared at the picture. It was of Kellen pressed up against a glass wall, in his Guide uniform with Rhys behind him. It was a good picture, Kellen could agree to it, but Rhys was practically nude behind him.
Kellen reached out towards the picture, gently touching a corner of it before he sighed and retracted back into the couch. He moved to sit as far away from it as he could. He worried that if he touched it right now, he might tear it. There was something inside of him that was telling him to do so, and he was just the one saying he didn’t want anything to happen to it.
Pamela watched him, watched his reactions and a slow, suspicious smile crossed her lips.
“So I shouldn’t show you the posters, should I?” She asked. It was clear she was testing him, however, Kellen knew he limits. Even if this was the last chance to see them before they were made and sold, Kellen shouldn’t do it.
He knew when to push himself and when to not.
“I shouldn’t. If you two want to see them, please go ahead. I’ll go stand over in the corner.” Kellen said and did just that, much to the surprise of the others.
He distracted himself by looking through the books he had selected and marking the sections that he wanted to copy by turning down the pages. He had done this several times before, the pages well worn. He didn’t see this as an act that diminished the value of the book, and instead viewed it as an ability to see that the book was well loved. Well used.
It took no time for the trio to be finished looking at the posters and soon Kellen came back to the couch. Pamela pulled out her tablet and she began speaking rather urgently to Hill about the idea she had brought up. They began workshopping for ideas, producers, how long of a time-line they wanted versus what would be realistic.
Kellen felt rather outside of the conversation they were having, so he took it upon himself to tidy up the space. Casper, also left out of the conversation, non verbally offered to help clean up with him. The two Guides set to work gathering everything without even touching each other in the process.
Until Casper was holding open the last manila envelope for Kellen to slide his calendar Rhys inside. They had been kind enough to put the posters back, so that was what was left.
Kellen’s hand brushed Casper’s and it was like an electric shock went through his whole body. Kellen froze, his breath coming to a halt as a loud, high-pitched ringing filled his ears and his vision went dim.
“Kellen? Kellen?!” Kellen felt his body tilt as he slid forward. Several sets of hands caught him and the shock of others touching him got his lungs working. However, they didn’t get his sight back, or his hearing.
This was because he was in the middle of seeing something happen before his very eyes. Kellen watched as several things flashed before his eyes. Buildings, several of them, along with the deep scream of a male. It sounded like they were in a lot of pain. The buildings were shown in a way that it was showing off their identifying features, and Kellen, furious, watched as the same person who had been in the mask firing at his parents was shown, but with their back to however he was seeing this.
Kellen was breathing, his hand reaching out and gripping onto someone’s hands.
There was a flash of barred door slamming shut and a flutter of silver hair and that was all Kellen needed to know.
“Write this down.” Kellen rasped, before he began spewing everything he had just seen. Everything, in order, he let fall out of his mouth as he tried to give as many details as possible. Kellen wasn’t a fool. He knew that this was a strange situation, but he wasn’t going to look a gift horse in the mouth.
Was he used to having visions, or seeing the future? Absolutely not, but he didn’t pass out this time. Was this too soon? How was Kellen to know? All he did was spew everything he saw, including the flash of silver hair at the end.
By the time that he was finished speaking, he was panting, and the high pitched screech finally faded from his ears. His vision took a little bit longer to come back and only came back in spots. By the time that it did, Rhys was in the room, his chest heaving as he stared at Kellen and where he was holding onto Hill’s hand like a lifeline.
“What happened?” He asked, demanding the truth. Kellen was panting still, his body hunched and shaking.
“Had another vision.” Kellen rasped, shivering, and Rhys’ jaw tightened. He moved around the room, coming around to the other side of the couch and gently moved Kellen over so that he could slide in next to him. Hill made sure that there was enough room for all of them to sit on the couch. It was a tight squeeze, but Kellen kind of needed the support at the moment.
Rhys’ arm wrapped around his shoulder and he pulled Kellen against him, his heart pounding in his chest.
“Never a dull moment, huh?” Rhys whispered and Kellen gave a shaky laugh.
“It was Gunther.” Kellen whispered, glancing at Casper who was as stiff as a board. He looked actually horrified, while Pamela was typing onto her tablet, her eyes glancing around to everyone in the room.
“We need to get to Taylor.” Hill whispered and Kellen groaned.
“I’m fine.” Kellen protested and had four people turn on him.
“Kellen, I just watched you turn into a popsicle as soon as you touched me. You lost all colour, grew cold, and froze. We had to catch you otherwise you would have severely hurt yourself. You’re going to Taylor.” Casper said, his voice shaking, but firm. Kellen groaned.
“But I promised Charlie.” Kellen complained, going limp against Rhys’ chest. Rhys was trembling slightly.
“Charlie will understand, Kellen. Your health comes first. This could be a complication from the transfusion.” Rhys whispered, but Kellen didn’t believe that. There was no way that seeing visions was a common side effect from getting a blood transfusion. Kellen’d had them before, recently after he’d been shot, and he hadn’t…had visions…before then…
Had he?
No no, that was just Rhys’ paranoia getting to him. He’d been like this before then.
“Rhys, that’s fucking insane of a thing to say.” Kellen said, his voice hurting. He coughed, and Hill moved to grab his teacup and raised it to Kellen’s lips. He took a sip, grateful for the warm liquid sliding down his throat. “Thank you.” He said easily, thanking the woman.
Everyone looked shaken, and after a moment, Kellen could understand why. He closed his eyes, taking a deep breath, and sighed.
“Fine. I’ll go see Taylor.” He agreed, bitter. Rhys pressed a shaking kiss to his forehead.
“Thank you.” He whispered. Kellen knew that it wasn’t much of a concession. Rhys would have taken him to the Medical Bay no matter what, but it was clear that the man was grateful that Kellen agreed to it before he swept him off his feet.
“Can you at least let her know in advance that we are coming?” Kellen asked. Hill whipped out her phone.
“On it.” She declared, quickly typing before she paused, then nodded. “She’s aware. She saw the text. Oh, she’s calling.” Hill put the phone up to her ear. “Hello Taylor.”
“What do you mean you’re bringing Kellen to the Medical Bay? What happened?” She demanded and Hill glanced at Kellen.
“He had a sudden vision. We aren’t sure how it happened, but-”
“I touched Casper.” Kellen said and Casper let out a gasp. His hand flew to his chest, and if he had looked terrible before, he now looked like he was going to faint at any moment. “We’re bringing Casper too. He doesn’t look good.” Kellen told Rhys and Rhys just nodded. Hill sighed.
“Did you hear him?” She asked Taylor.
“I heard him. Fuck. I’ll be ready for him, and Casper. Who else is there?” She asked.
“Rhys and Pamela are also here.” Hill confirmed.
“Well, I can’t get rid of Rhys, so Pamela, sit this one out.” Taylor asked and Pamela nodded.
“Understood, Dr. Green.” Pamela said and Taylor groaned.
“Stop calling me Doctor. I never finished school.” Taylor protested.
“Yeah, but you’re like a Doctor. So, Dr. Green.” Pamela insisted and it was such a normal moment in such a surreal experience that it had everyone laughing. However, shortly Kellen was once more in Rhys’ arms as they headed for the Medical Bay.
He’d not even made it a damn day before he had to go back. It was like a damn curse.
He was blaming Gwen. She probably just didn’t want to be lonely. Or miss out on the action.
