Chapter 76: A sweet debrief
The shower after their ’non romp’ in the sheets felt like a victory shower. Rhys was so careful in the way that he touched Kellen that it made Kellen equally as gentle with the other man.
They had cum more than 3 times each, Rhys milking Kellen for all that he was worth until Kellen pounced on the other man, milking him in return. Both men were flushed, tired, but extremely happy.
Rhys had helped deal with the aftermath. He had reversed time on the sheets and towel, but the toys were a different matter. They had to be tossed, for safety. Rhys would dispose of them in the morning.
For now, they enjoyed their shower together. They were probably just going to crash in the bed after this, both basking in the afterglow of finally being able to seek comfort in each other in some way, even if it wasn’t direct.
Kellen, unable to wear his arm wrap and eyepatch in the shower, was assisted by Rhys to keep his body clean and safe. The way that Rhys looked at him as he tended to him warmed Kellen’s heart more than the acts that they had done together. Kellen wanted to help Rhys clean up, but Rhys wouldn’t let him. Kellen only had one hand to use, and Rhys would be faster.
He wanted to cuddle up with Kellen sooner rather than later.
Kellen wasn’t exactly able to argue with him about that.
Finally, out of the shower, dried off, dressed in their night clothes, Rhys escorted Kellen down to the kitchen for some tea and snacks after their…activities. Kellen would have protested if Rhys hadn’t told him that he was hungry. All that activity had worked up an appetite.
Kellen begrudgingly joined him, the two of them enjoying their time together on the couch, hanging out together, cuddling together while Rhys told Kellen about the day he’d had before Kellen had scared him.
Rhys also explained the plans to rescue Gunther, and how Sergei, who had remained on the front lines, wanted in on the action. Rhys, feeling bad for the man, had agreed to it. That meant that Sakura was going to have to switch spots. None of the current S Classes felt comfortable leaving the front lines undefended given they were still investigating the poison gate.
Research was making progress, but Carlos wouldn’t be at their full disposal until they cured Kellen, Gwen, and the others. He was too focused on curing the people before he would work on curing the environment. Plus, the last round of suits he’d made, the one that Kellen had used, worked really well. If they didn’t exceed five days inside of the gate, they didn’t need to be treated for poisons that were unknown to them.
That was good news, which was why Sergei was demanding to come back to the city and deal with the E.A.G. presence that was messing with his city. Rhys looked troubled when he spoke about Sergei, and when Kellen asked, he looked hesitant to tell him.
He wasn’t going to keep it from Kellen though, and after giving Rhys a moment to compose his thoughts, he spoke.
He felt bad for Sergei. Both Kellen and Rhys were aware that he had been getting close to Brent, but Rhys hadn’t known how close until it was far too late. When Sergei had to put himself under, Rhys knew that meant that he was compromised. For S Classes, that wasn’t good. Rhys knew it too well.
Kellen frowned when he said that, but Rhys just chuckled, raising Kellen’s hand to his lips and pressing a kiss there. Rhys knew that Kellen knew other S Classes. He knew that Kellen understood that there were risks involved, but when a bond hadn’t been solidified…
Rhys looked off into the distance, as if recalling something.
Rhys would be the first to admit that crazy things could happen. Crazy things would happen if Sergei didn’t have good people at his side. Kellen argued that the Lieutenants of the Nemesis Guild had always been competent, always had a good head on their shoulders. Rhys agreed. He was just worried that they loved their Captain too much to push back against him if he decided to do something drastic.
That was something that Kellen couldn’t give his two cents to.
Rhys also admitted that he was frustrated that his people were late. They were always late, but he was frustrated that they were late when the Guild really needed them here this time. Kellen was a bit confused about who he was speaking about until he clarified.
The two S Classes that Rhys had mentioned a couple of times, as had Hill, but Kellen had never met. Never. Rhys was clearly annoyed, but there was little he could do about it. They liked to tease everyone and were more of the ’traditional’ S Classes of the past. They were older, after all.
Kellen asked if he had heard anything from them and Rhys took a moment to think before shaking his head. He also admitted that he had given them more orders, making them veer off of course to the city even more, but not by much. He was rather defensive of that point.
All Kellen could do was offer up his arms for comfort then, and listen to him go through the plan that he had for rescuing Gunther. He was hoping that if he rescued Gunther first and maybe displaced a few of their people, it would upset the vision that Kellen had seen first.
The one where they shot and killed Kellen’s parents.
Kellen told him, without any confusion, they would not be capable of killing Kellen’s parents because Kellen wasn’t going to let it happen. They had proven that Kellen’s visions didn’t have to come to pass. They were more of a warning than anything else. Kellen would not let his people, his family be injured, and Rhys understood that too.
Which was why he wanted to attempt to rescue Gunther first. He was hopeful that if he did, that would disrupt the future that Kellen had seen. Sakura was already on her way to the front lines so that Sergei could come to the Saturn Guild and they could speak in person.
Rhys didn’t feel comfortable leaving Kellen alone at the moment, nor leaving his parents alone but he wouldn’t ever tell Kellen’s Mom that. Kellen had grinned when Rhys told him that. It was sweet how the man was considering them someone he had to watch over. Someone that he had to protect.
His thoughtfulness made Kellen want to kiss him again, but he held himself back.
Kellen asked if Sergei was okay coming to the Guild instead of meeting at his own and Rhys had chuckled. Sergei had been the one to say that he was going to come to the Saturn Guild. He didn’t even make them fight about where they were going to meet, which Sergei had been notorious about doing before.
It was why they had always ended up at the D.E.C. for their meetings because Sergei had loved to jerk Rhys’ chain and drive the man insane. Rhys was sure that Sergei was playing nice for two reasons.
He now understood what Rhys was going through, and Kellen had information about Brent. Both of those things meant that he was going to play nice. Kellen chuckled at the smug smile on Rhys’ face.
Rhys promised Kellen that he wouldn’t tease him too much. He’d see how bad Sergei was, and go from there. Rhys wasn’t a fool, and he wasn’t forgetful. Sergei had been doing them a great service by letting Rhys and Kellen stay away from the front lines for the moment, at least until Kellen was better. He’d also taken on the brunt of the load of managing the front lines while Sakura was busy with manufacturing the antidote and Rhys’ Guild had been attacked. By monsters and by the gate itself.
Rhys would keep the teasing to a minimum. Sergei would be freaked out if Rhys didn’t at least tease him a bit.
Kellen wondered if Sergei was getting enough guiding, and Rhys’ smile faded. He figured that he was only getting enough to sustain himself, and Kellen hated to hear that. He wondered if Sergei would be open to receiving some guiding from Charlie, if Charlie was willing. Rhys was surprised by the suggestion, but thought that it might be an okay thing to suggest.
He had a feeling that out of everyone, Sergei might take Kellen’s suggestion the best. Given that he was Brent’s best friend, and he had a prior relationship with Kellen. He would know that he wasn’t doing it from a place of malice.
Kellen hoped so. He’d speak to Charlie about it tomorrow.
Rhys said that he’d probably have the meeting in the afternoon since that was shortly after Sergei would arrive in the city. The appointment that he had made for Kellen was at 10:30 am, so if Kellen didn’t take too long, he’d be able to speak to him before he arrived to the meeting.
Kellen felt his face warm at that. Rhys hadn’t seen him speaking to weapon dealers before, but he had him pegged. Kellen often took his time, picking the dealer’s mind on details, types, models, everything.
He was particular about his guns and other weapons. Rhys chuckled at Kellen’s expression, kissing his cheek before he pulled away with a grin.
The man he had made an appointment with was the one who Rhys normally bought his personal weapons from. His company was who supplied the Guild, but his personal dealings were of better quality. Baby, the weapon that Rhys carried around all the time on the front lines, was from him.
That was good to know, even if it made Kellen roll his eyes. Having a weapon named baby? That was so Rhys of him.
After speaking about business, Rhys pulled Kellen close and forced him to sit through an episode of a mindless t.v. show before they went to bed. Both men were exhausted, for similar reasons.
Kellen had experienced another vision today, and Rhys had been combing through visions thanks to the boost from Charlie most of the day as well. Both men had big days ahead of them, and a well earned early bedtime was welcome.
