Chapter 78: A new, shiny gun
When Kellen arrived on the conference floor, people were already milling about. It wasn’t like the weeks before the poison gate eruption, but there was a noticeable presence of people around.
Kellen spotted a few of the A Class Espers that he would work out with in the mornings and they smiled at him, waving. Kellen waved back, wanting to stop and chat but he was almost late for his meeting.
Practically bouncing, Kellen moved to the conference room B and noticed that someone was already inside. Knocking, he opened the door and was greeted by a tall but built man in a suit. The suit was well tailored, fitting his body perfectly. He looked sharp, like a sharp, and when he smiled, he flashed a golden canine.
His brown hair and brown eyes, as well as his face were unassuming, so the flash of a golden took was quite surprising. In fact, his looks were rather…normal. Outside of his larger build, Kellen wouldn’t have given him a second glance on the streets.
However, the goods he was laying out, had laid out, on the conference room table were…good. Better than good, Kellen felt his fingers twitch.
He stopped what he was doing, adjusting his suit slightly and moved towards Kellen, offering a hand and then switching the offered hand when he realised Kellen was in a sling.
“Pleasure to meet you. I’m Hans Wolf, and you must be Captain Thatcher’s partner, Mr. Woods, correct?” He asked, smiling. Now that he was closer, Kellen could tell that both of his canines on top were wrapped in gold and so were the ones on the bottom of his jaw as well. It was…an interesting look.
Kellen took his hand, giving him a firm squeeze and Hans’ grin widened.
“Nice to meet you, Hans, or would you prefer Mr. Wolf?” Kellen asked and he laughed.
“Hans is perfect, Mr. Woods. Captain Thatcher told me you were looking to up your personal arsenal? Anything I can help you find?” He asked, looking eager.
Kellen however, took a moment to look over what he had brought.
There was a wide variety of things here, and all of them tugged at Kellen’s interest. Knives, swords, maces, axes, several models of hand guns as well as some stranger items. Whips, pikes, grenades, a large hammer and what appeared to be several sets of handcuffs.
Kellen ignored the last group he noticed.
The man had a decent amount of items out. It did seem that he had several more items that he hadn’t put out as well. It was clear he was trying to see what Kellen wanted. Perfect. Kellen was going to pick his brain, see what he could get, and see if he had exactly what Kellen was looking for. Getting a new gun was what he had planned for, but like he had told Taylor earlier, he had enough money that he wouldn’t be able to spend in his lifetime.
It wouldn’t hurt to get a few…new toys. Especially since he was going to be at Rhys’ side, and he planned to destroy the E.A.G. with his bare hands.

Kellen could tell that the dealer, Hans, was getting a little frustrated with how many questions he was asking. The smile had slipped slightly, telling Kellen that after an hour of him poking and prodding without making it clear that he wanted to purchase one of his wares, Kellen was reaching his limit.
So, Kellen turned towards the weapon that had caught his attention from the get go, but he also had to satiate his curiousity for knowledge first.
It wasn’t one of the weapons that he had put out on the table right away. It was one of the weapons that around the 20 minute mark Hans had pulled out. He had been trying to listen to what Kellen was saying, while also trying to impress him. It was clear that while Hans had known a bit about Kellen, it wasn’t like the public hadn’t watched him grow up, he hadn’t known of Kellen.
He had brought good items, but it was clear that he thought he was showing off to Rhys, not Kellen. Kellen could tell that the man was kicking himself for not bringing even better items. He’d even hinted, several times already, that if Kellen had the time, he could come back tomorrow with even better items.
However, Kellen found the items that he’d brought sufficient. Including the one that had caught his attention.
It wasn’t flashy like some of the other weapons on the table. It wasn’t brightly coloured, flashy, or looked like the newer model of weapons on the market. It had weight to it, like the older style weapons Kellen was used to on the front lines. They didn’t always get the flashy weapons that the rest of the city did on the front lines. Things that were too mechanical often broke down. Like generators, heaters, anything that would need maintenance.
Guns and other weapons were the same. It was why Rhys had a sword, and why many of the other Espers worked with simple weapons.
It was the civilians who mostly had high tech weapons, or the Espers and Guides who never went to the front lines.
However, the tech for this weapon seemed…good. Really good, and since Kellen was going to be spending some time away from the front lines, he had to fit in, right?
Outwardly, it looked like a regular hand gun. Heavy to the touch, but balanced in Kellen’s hand, if you didn’t know better you would think it was the same kind of gun that Kellen had shot several times before. The difference was that it was powered by crystals found in the gates to shoot lasers. Quick beams of light that fucking hurt and cauterized wounds as soon as you got them. Healers had a very difficult time dealing with such wounds, and they were the force behind trying to ban these weapons.
Well, those who had morals. Some healers…didn’t care. The longer care meant more money. Kellen didn’t want to know Taylor’s stance on these kinds of guns. He cared for the girl, but he didn’t want to have to lecture her.
Either way, they had been on and off the market for years, only making a resurgence on the market again in the last three years since they had found a way to balance their damage. They had also found a way to put a ’stopper’ of some kind on the weapons so that it didn’t hurt humans as much.
Kellen huffed, staring at the weapon that had been almost banned because it had been used on humans too much that Healers had to protest and felt a sick, slow smile touch his lips. It was the perfect option, honestly. He just knew, in the back of his mind, that it would be a good option.
Untraceable, laser burns couldn’t be tracked the same way that bullets could, it looked like a regular firearm, and would probably perform the same way. People knew that Kellen liked to carry guns with him. They had learned the hard way as he had defended himself and his people several times, and on live t.v.
Kellen had made up his mind that he would have that gun, laser and all. He was going to purchase a few more weapons, including a pair of new formulated daggers that sliced through all of the tester leathers like a damn hot knife through butter, and a larger, sniper-like gun. That one wasn’t a laser gun, but instead was using bullets that exploded inside the body.
It was to cause the most damage, and honestly? If Kellen was planning to do what he was going to do, that was a great, and terrible, solution.
If he didn’t hit vitals on the first shot, he was going to make sure he did in the end. The time for leniency was long gone. Not with them attempting to kill his parents again. Not with them killing Aunt Dina’s partner. Not with the rest of the world letting these fuckers run free and wild.
Compassion was making sure he killed them on the first shot. Kellen was going to be the most compassionate person they’d ever met.
When Kellen began listing off what he was planning to purchase, Hans looked relieved. He was clearly worried that all of his hard work wasn’t going to lead to a purchase, but Kellen wasn’t that kind of a man. Especially not after Rhys had told him that Hans was the man who he had purchased his precious weapons from.
Kellen just made sure to warn Hans that next time, he should be a little more prepared. Hans had looked sheepish at Kellen’s words, nodded and threw in a few casings of the explosive rounds on the house. Kellen hadn’t been fishing, but he’d take a deal.
Thankfully, that did mean that Kellen finished up his purchases, the new gun tucked safely into his clothes as he left the conference room. He made sure that Hans sent the rest to Kellen’s apartment, and then asked Rhys who he had to contact to get his weapons brought up to his rooms.
It was only a second later that a few of the A Class Espers he’d seen milling about the hallways earlier knocked on the door and asked which ones were in need of transport. Kellen was a little surprised, and then smiled at Hans apologetically.
He was still getting used to the powers that he had, which meant sometimes things like this happened. Hans just laughed it off, and then asked who he should change. Kellen got the distinct feeling that he was just going to charge Rhys if he didn’t get told a specific name, so Kellen made sure that his account was charged.
Hans looked like he didn’t want to get in the middle of that argument. Kellen agreed. He shouldn’t.
Now for sure done, Kellen moved towards the other conference room and found, through the windows into the room, that Sergei was there. Along with a few of his Lieutenants, and Kellen nodded in approval.
Good. They didn’t let him travel alone.
Rhys, as if able to sense Kellen even when his back was turned, spun with a giant smile. They had been sitting down, the screen not on, and clearly waiting for Lieutenant Fisher to arrive still, but prepared. Sergei had his back to the door while Hill and the other Lieutenants sat sideways, having a view of the whole room combined.
Hill waved at Kellen while Rhys got up, heading towards Kellen and hugging him.
“I see you finished your shopping trip. How did it go? Did he have anything interesting for you?” Rhys asked, his eyes sparkling as he scanned Kellen. Then his hand slid down Kellen’s back and felt something other than Kellen’s ass.
Rhys’ eyes widened, before he let out a laugh, smiling down at the smirking Kellen.
“I see. Don’t shoot me, alright?” Rhys asked, his eyes full of happiness. Kellen straightened his back, standing a little taller so that he could press a kiss to Rhys’ chin.
“I’d never shoot you with a gun.” Kellen promised. He watched as the man furrowed his brows, confused as Kellen’s smile grew. He leaned in, keeping his voice quiet. He didn’t want the others to hear. “I have…something that is so much more fun to shoot you with. In private.” Kellen whispered, pulling back to see the stunned face of Rhys.
Then, the man turned bright red and the biggest, happiest smile touched his lips. He was too cute.
