Duke Haborym calmly shifted his gaze to the far left. On a rooftop stood Damian, firm and unyielding, steam diffusing from his body in thin wisps. If he had remained within that sea of flames for even a moment longer, he would have been seriously hurt.

“It’s strong,” Damian muttered under his breath as he dusted some ash off his shoulder.

Even now, he felt no fear. If anything, his curiosity had only deepened, especially toward the second layer of the barrier. Glancing around once more, Damian took in the apocalyptic scene before him. The crimson sky was dyed red beneath the blood moon, and under its eerie glow the world felt hollow and desolate. Before, his senses had at least told him people were around, but now it felt as though the world itself had been emptied, leaving only him, this crazy priest, and a demon noble behind.

Damian’s grunts and the serpent’s hiss echoed from within as several loud bangs rang out in relentless succession. It was clear proof of the intense battle unfolding inside, yet Corbin did not seem rushed.

In fact, he looked as though he had all the time in the world.

“Is that the devil that killed your guardian angel?”

The moment those words left his lips, a massive figure materialized behind the priest.

Two pairs of wings were wrapped around it like a cocoon, concealing most of its form. Its face was hidden behind an iron helmet that completely covered its features, leaving only its golden hair fluttering gracefully in the wind. The nine-foot archangel slowly unfurled its wings, revealing Linda’s tiny figure in stark contrast to its intimidating physique.

She stepped up beside Corbin and nodded firmly.

“I told you he was human for sure!” she said, though her gaze never left the building where the constant sound of clashes continued to ring out.

She knew that man was powerful, but she had never expected him to be able to stand his ground against a Duke of Hell.

“What is he?” Corbin ignored his lovestruck subordinate and instead addressed his guardian angel, Arch Angel Gilbert.

Unlike the other members of the Order of Solomon, Corbin’s guardian angel had never been an ordinary angel. From the day he was born, Gilbert had stood by his side, placing him leagues ahead of his peers even as an infant. By the age of three, he had performed his first exorcism. He was the only non-executive member of the Order of Moses who had direct contact with the Pope and was even considered a possible candidate should the Pope die.

“But he kills demons. Does that make him good?” Linda asked.

Gilbert’s head slowly turned in her direction as though acknowledging her words, then just as casually turned away and completely ignored her.

Linda’s face flushed with embarrassment.

Normal angels were already prideful and snobbish by nature. It was hardly surprising that an archangel would be worse.

Gilbert ignored everyone except Corbin.

“Why are they fighting then? Shouldn’t they be on the same side?” Corbin asked.

Gilbert nodded slowly before answering.

“The underworld is a place fraught with betrayal and treachery. It is not surprising if his half-brothers are trying to get him killed. He is one of the possible heirs to the abyssal throne. He remains a threat to his siblings,” Gilbert replied, causing both Linda and Corbin to glance toward the building with obvious shock written across their expressions.

“How do you plan to proceed?” Gilbert asked, and Corbin frowned.

Several nights ago, he had fought Duke Haborym, and it would be a stretch to claim he had the upper hand. Alone, defeating the Duke was near impossible.

However, with the sin of lust involved, he should be able to succeed.

“We will prioritize killing the Duke of Hell and then, we will kill him,” Corbin decided in an instant.

Linda’s eyes dilated at his decision, but she dared not question it. She was already in trouble for allowing her guardian angel to die. It would be far worse if she appeared to side with a demon, especially one linked to the death of her angel.

“Good.” Gilbert nodded in agreement.

If the sin of lust was murdered, a new person on another planet could inherit his power, which meant they achieved nothing. However, killing Duke Haborym was an entirely different matter.

Hell would permanently lose one of its leading figures.

This would be a major merit added to their names.

A faint smile played upon Gilbert’s lips as his golden eyes flashed beneath the helmet. From the moment of his birth, Corbin had never once strayed from the righteous path and had proven time and again that he understood the will of the heavens.

That was why Gilbert considered him the only mortal worthy of his favor.
