“Yeah, I have plans tonight,” he said, gently stroking her hair.

“What about the date tomorrow? I’m guessing that’s off too?” Clara gave him the puppy look that made him feel guilty. Damian remembered he had promised to take her out on Saturday, and today was already Friday. He had moved their meeting up to Thursday because he felt betrayed. He wanted to set another date next weekend, but the case and his three wives left him little time for a day alone with Clara.

“From now on, you should work in my office all the time. That way we can spend more time together. What do you think?”

Clara’s sad face broke into excitement. Spending morning to evening with Damian, five days a week, was heaven. With the privacy of the criminal defense division, they could indulge freely without interruptions. This was better than any date he could offer.

“It’s great!” she said, wrapping her hands around his neck and pressing a deep kiss to his lips.
