Chapter 87: Peaceful Drive Home

Damian and Twenty spent most of the night discussing the details of his proposal, continuing their conversation until nearly 11 p.m. Even after hours of discussion, Twenty fully understood how the church would operate and where its real value lay. What he still could not wrap his head around was the love hotel aspect.

Twenty had offered drugs at one point, but Damian refused. He did not provide a clear explanation and simply urged Twenty to trust him. If anyone else had asked him to invest in something he did not understand, Twenty would have refused without hesitation. Yet Damian had consistently produced extraordinary results and had already proven himself to be unique in ways Twenty had never encountered before. If he could not trust this man, then there was truly no one in the world worthy of that trust.

Eventually, the meeting came to an end. After bidding each other farewell, Damian drove out into the quiet streets at a moderate pace. The windows of the car were rolled down, allowing the cool wind to brush across his face while country music played softly through the radio. He nodded along to the rhythm in silent enjoyment.

Hazel’s figure slowly phased into existence in the passenger seat, a playful smile resting on her lips. Damian was not particularly surprised by her sudden appearance, but the expression she wore was enough to catch his attention.

“What’s that look for?” he asked.

“You are adjusting quickly. I always wondered what kind of person you would become. At first I thought you might turn into a mindless brute, but now I am beginning to see the possibility of something very different.” Hazel answered honestly.

Damian thought about that for a moment. Considering the fact that he had killed both an angel and a demon the previous night, he was not entirely sure he could agree with that assessment.

“I think I still have a long way to go,” he replied modestly.

As the Prince of Hell, he could boast and look down on almost anyone in existence. Yet that arrogance never extended to his wives, especially not to his first wife.

“Don’t be modest. Even last night we saw you hesitate many times. You killed the angels and demons because you were cautious, yet you spared the human woman in order to gather information.” Hazel wrapped her hands around his arm and leaned gently against his shoulder. With his strength now standing at fifteen, carrying her weight while driving was effortless.

“The man I met on the day he first unlocked his talents believed himself invincible and was completely intoxicated by his newfound power. Now you are learning how to properly use those abilities. That is improvement in my book.”

After hearing her explanation, Damian had to admit that he had changed. He simply had not noticed it because his life had been moving at an unbelievable pace.

Only a few months ago he had been a broken man with no will to live. Now he was a junior partner in a powerful law firm, secretly helping manage a cartel, and preparing to build a cult.

The system had truly transformed his life in ways he could never have imagined.

“It’s exhausting…” he sighed heavily.

The constant mental calculations, the careful planning, and the ever present fear of being discovered by the other Sins or the angels were all weighing heavily on him. Even though his enhanced constitution made it nearly impossible for his body to grow tired, his soul felt strained and worn.

This life was truly exhausting. Yet at the same time, success demanded constant motion. The busiest people in the world were often the most successful. It was only natural that the life of a prince on the run would be this demanding.

“That is why we are going on vacation. To help you clear your mind from all of this.” Hazel tried to comfort him.

“You know Clara and I will still have to work on the new case during the trip, right?” he asked.

Hazel nodded with a faint, resigned smile.

“I heard.” She sighed softly.

The two of them fell into a peaceful silence, enjoying the warmth of each other’s presence.

“Do you regret becoming the Sin of Lust?” Hazel asked quietly.

“Nope,” Damian answered immediately. “In fact, I love it. The only problem is that my life jumped from ten percent to a hundred percent overnight. There has not been much time to adjust, and that is why everything feels so difficult.”

“I see…” Hazel murmured as her thoughts began racing.

At that moment the only thing occupying her mind was how she could make life easier for her husband. Watching the faint lines appear on her forehead as she concentrated so intensely, Damian could not help but laugh.

His wives were the only people in the world who immediately began searching for solutions whenever he faced a problem. They simply approached those solutions in very different ways.

Hazel would usually implement her solution without telling him beforehand because she believed it was the best path for him. Ruby preferred teasing him and making him sweat a little before finally revealing the answer. Rachel, on the other hand, often kept her ideas to herself because she worried they might not work, even though her plans usually turned out to be the most effective of the three.

They were different in personality, yet strangely identical in one crucial way. Everything they did revolved around one goal, his happiness and satisfaction. Sometimes Damian truly wondered if they were demons, or if he simply had not yet seen their darker sides.

Regardless, time would reveal the truth eventually. There was no point dwelling on it now.

“When was the last time we had a quiet moment like this?” Damian asked.

The peaceful comfort he felt right now reminded him of their earliest days together. Hazel had washed away his insecurities through nothing but patience and gentle support. That was why she held such a special place in his heart.

“The failed training session three weeks ago. The one where we argued about my ex husband… I’m sorry about that.” Hazel tightened her grip around his arm. “I should have considered your feelings before reacting the way I did.”

Damian remembered that incident clearly. They had never truly resolved the issue because Ruby and Rachel had entered their lives shortly afterward, and everything had become chaotic.

“I’m sorry too. I should not have spoken about Lin that way, especially after everything he has done to help me,” Damian said before leaning over and kissing her gently on the forehead.

Hazel smiled sweetly and responded by kissing his arm several times. She and her sisters were fortunate that their new husband was just as gentle as the last. That was precisely why she would move mountains to protect him.

Her greatest regret in life was not standing beside Lin Qui when he needed her the most. Now fate had given them another man who loved them just as deeply as their former husband once had. She refused to repeat the same mistake.

If anyone wanted to kill her husband, they would have to kill her first.

“Let us take things slowly from now on and enjoy every part of your life as a human. Step by step, slowly and steadily. No more reckless leaps, alright?” Hazel whispered.

Damian nodded softly.

“Yeah. I would like that.”
